  1. Hello everybody!

Just had a question if anyone had their gallbladder out at the same time the band was placed. I had a CT of my abdomen and am scheduled to have my gallbladder out also at the same time I have my band placed.

Did anyone else have both done at the same time and if you did, did you have any complications? Or did everything go ok? Were you told of any risks involved with it?

  2. Jini,

Today is the start of your new life and I am so excited for you. I kept you in my prayers and will continue to. Can't wait to hear from you and see how you are doing.

And your answer to your question, I don't think anything can be as bad as the before diet, it's all downhill after surgery, before we know it we will be on "mushies." Doesn't that sound great? I sure think so. Take care!

    Schel

  3. Jini,

Just me again, wanted to let you know and everyone else, I took their advise and called my doctor to confess. SIGH!!!! I feel so much better, I feel like I've been given a second chance on life! They said not a problem, but the goal is to loose at least 5 more pounds by surgery date and NO cheating, to stay on the liquid diet only and no extras.

So....I am doing well so far and being I HATE broth I found a way to CHOKE it down. It's called 1/2 teaspoon of Mrs. Dash to it. Dresses it up a bit and makes it a little more tolerable.

I don't know what I'm complaining about I only have 4 more servings until surgery to go, the rest of the liquids are easy.

My plan; "STAY AWAY FROM THE KITCHEN!"

Good luck and stay in touch!

    Schel

  4. Jini,

I to am in the "liquid" phase of my pre op. I must admit, I am no angel either. I have been on fluids for 9 days now. I have had a few slip ups also. For the most part though, I tried to stay away from any carbs, sugar or anything more than a cup to eat at a time. My cheat was scrambled egg whites, with 97% lean ham, one oz. light cheese and an ounce each of green pepper and onion finely chopped. I still felt guilty and I too HATE broth!

I'd like to put myself out there to you. I am willing to try not to cheat any more and follow Dr's orders. Do you want to do this with me? Let me know if you want to do this!

Well I confessed also. I will try harder tomorrow and the rest of my days ahead. Thanks for listening. Know that you are not alone!

    Good luck to you! Schel

P.S. If I don't hear from you I wish you best of luck with your surgery and I'll put you in my prayers.

  5. I'm feelin' weak! I want to chew...thank goodness my family is home. I don't think I'd have the will power to avoid the fridge right now.

Keep your eye on the goal, I will tell myself.

Sometimes I feel like solid food is out of my sight.

Thanks for all your "guyzez" support. I will be strong.

  6. I am on the 14 day liquid thing, they suggested I purchase the program from www.med-diet.com Well the Protein pudding and the Protein shakes are ok. But the protien broth... I'd rather skip it and go without than drink it. Which isn't good, because, then I'm not getting my whole day of Protein I'm supposed to get.

I have supplimented with 2 egg whites and a whole egg to make up for the protein content of the broth. It all works out to measure the same, as far as calorie's, fat, protein and carbs, (which are zero). Let me know if you think I should contact my Dr. to see if this is ok.

    Thanks, Schel

  7. Hello! icon7.gif

Boy am I new to all of this! My name is Schel and I am 9 days before surgery. I have been on liquids for 7 days now and having a tough time of it today. I'd love to CHEW something but I do not want to risk not having the surgery, because I have waited a LONG time to get where I am today. There now I feel better about that! (not that I could chew anything at this point anyways, I've had 2 root canals in the last 2 weeks, and go for a crown to finish it this week.)

I started out three an a half years ago researching Gastric Bypass. I was introduced to the concept of the Lap Band at a informational class I attended while doing my research. Not totally decided on RNY or Lap Band, I had all of my "classes" (Psych, dietary consult, etc...) out of the way. My mother at the time had just had RNY and I became very ill with Guillain-Barre Syndrome, Miller Fisher Variant. What is that you ask? A very RARE neurological disorder in which my face became totally paralized and my bowels and nerves in my body pretty much shut down. Anyone wondering what GBS is you can read more at

    http://www.gbsfi.com/

Anyways, after years of recovery my answer to which surgery was very clear to me. LAP BAND! I don't think a Vitamin defiency with the RNY which I see and hear a lot of people have is a very good choice for me. And after research I feel this is a much healthier version for weight loss surgery.

So... My surgery date is November 22nd 2005 at 9:30 AM at Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis MN with Dr. Michael Schwartz.

I am very excited and look foreward to meeting many new "bandster" friends and improving my life. I also plan on enjoying my 6 year olds "growing up" years.

Well that about sums it up in a nut shell. Hope to chat with many of you in the future. Good Luck to all!

    Schel from Big Lake MN.

  8. Hello,

My name is Schel and I am from Big Lake MN.

I am not yet banded and am scheduled for Nov 22nd 2005.

1- Does anyone know how much Protein a body can handle at once?

I mean is there a limit on how much your body can absorb at once?

    For this I mean Protein Shakes.< /span>

2- Can I still have caffeine after surgery? And if No, why not?

Will I ever be able to have caffeine again? (my vice... coffee)

3- Anyone met their goal yet?

And if so, what next? I mean do they still do fills with your band?

Do they not fill it and see how you do?

4- Is anyone able to go out and have a few cocktails after goal has

been reached or just an occasional glass of wine, like holidays?

    Schel

  9. Surgery is with Dr. Schwartz at Abbott Northwestern Hospital MN.

    November 22nd.... Happy Thanksgiving!!!!

    Gobbel, Gobbel, Gobbel!

Guess I'll have to try "TURKEY" broth!

Thats ok though.... Next year I'll be a HOT MAMA! :D

    Schel from Minnesota

P.S. Still tryin to figure out that ticker thing. I'll get it though

next week when I'm on fluids only and need to occupy my

    hands and mouth!

  10. KAT72,

I am scheduled November 22nd and have 14 days of Protein liquids to be on. I did purchase the medifast 14 day plan in hopes of this making it easier for me not to have to be in the kitchen as much.

I have been trying so hard to loose weight before hand, but a person would think I'm having my "last dinner" ever!

I started out the week this week thinking I would try the liquid thing 3 weeks to try to loose more weight than just 2 weeks on the Liquid Protein diet thing. Well.......

needless to say that lasted 2 days. 2 days better than none I guess. At least I'm not eating everything in sight anymore.

So....my liquid thing starts for me on November 7th and I HAVE to follow it because I have come to far not to have surgery because I havn't followed Dr.'s orders.

I wish you the best and hope all goes well with your protein liquid thing also!

    Michelle

  11. Hello!

I have a surgery date!!! November 22nd. So I have a two week liquid diet I need to follow. I have questions regarding where to get high Protein broth and the high protein mix.

My doctor suggest that I go through a company called "med-diet" and thats fine, however I would like to do this the least expensive and best tasting way. So on that line, any hints and suggestions would greatly appreciated.

    Schel

  12. Megan,

You look wonderful in all your pictures. We chatted a while back and at that time I hadn't totally decided on this surgery. I have made the decision though to improve my life. I live in Big Lake MN. I am meeting with Dr. Schwartz for my 2nd consult September 22nd. I posted a thread in the General Lap band discussion section and hope that you will view it and see if you have any insight. The name of the thread is "New to this." Dr. Schwartz wanted me to go to the support group discussions down at Abbott, however being I live in Big Lake its difficult to get down in the cities, and its not my favorite place to drive to.

Hope to hear from you soon. Schel from Big Lake.

P.S. my old user name was Schelski-mn

  13. Hello! I am new to this all and have lots of questions. icon5.gif

Not yet banded, my 2nd consult is Sept 22nd 2005. Why 2nd? I needed to do some more thinking about this and have finally decided this is what I want. I also know that the support is right here at my fingertips!!!

1- How many days were you off work including surgery, post op and recovery until you returned to work?

    2- Anyone from Minnesota?

3- Any comments regarding RNY vs. Lap-Band?

(my mother, and many friends have had the RNY. All have done well, however, I would be nervous about "rerouting" the digestive system.)

Not a choice I am comfortable with.

4- What are the differences between eating food with the Lap-Band vs. the RNY. Are there any? I realize sugar is different with RNY because of "dumping" but I have a friend who had RNY and she is able to drink beer, and eat almost anything without problems. She is 4 years post op. Most others I know of have problems with this.

5- What should I expect about 3-4 years out post Lap-Band?

I know that I can get great answers to my questions here and look forward to being a sucess story like so many of you I have read about.

Great job to all of you who have improved your lives and your health!

    Thanks Schelicon10.gif

P.S. Megan from MN I hope to hear from you also. I posted you back in January 2005. icon7.gif
