Susan and Jacqui, Well, I made a decision to go to the doc tomorrow and let them decide which way we go from here. You know, I've been naughty not exercising and eating junk, so I'll go get my "chewin out" done with and move on from here. I've got no one to blame but myself. I am at 6cc in the VG Band and feel restriction, however, it lasts only a short time and I am hungry again, weather I eat Protein or carbs, and I still can eat a lot of food at one sitting. So... to the doctors office I go! Thanks for the support, I'll let you know how things go tomorrow. Schel

:help: I am writing to ask if anyone here has a child diagnosed with ADD. I posted on a parents forum, but have not got any feedback yet and thought everyone here has always been so helpful maybe I should ask here. I have a child which is 6 years old, and having behavior issues in school such as listening, talking out of turn, arguing with other kids, easily distracted with certain subjects, (not all subjects) and problems following directions in gym, (which is not his favorite thing). He also argues with his dad and I at home. I have done some reading on the internet, and I am leading towards the ADD thing in which I am scared to death to have my kid tagged with the diagnosis. What do you do though? Fight it, or accept it? I also did research on diet and herbal meds. (See what I wrote below.) I am to say the least STRESSED because of all of this. My husband refuses to accept that his behavior problems in school could be the start of ADD. I tried to have my husband read with me about ADD, but he is dead set against our son being "tagged" with the ADD label and not to say the least, the meds these kids are put on. Anyone have any suggestions on what I should be looking for exactally, please let me know. I also have questions on herbal remedies. I went to a web site www.nativeremedies.com and did some reading about two meds named BRIGHTSPARK and FOCUS . Has anyone heard of these? Anyone tried these or have experience with these? If so any feedback will be greatly appreciated. Please know that I would never put my child on anything without talking to my peds doc first. We are also going to start some family councling tomorrow and I plan on asking the Psych. I am not at all excited about the med thing if thats what things come down to either. I know this is a lot, but I really appreciate all and any feedback I could get. Thanks again, Schel --------------------

ThinJen, I am following through with my gut, mostly because like you said if it was something like diabetes, I would want him on medication for that, as well as like depression. To bad these kids have got such a bad label for this diagnosis. I certainly see things through a different pair of eyes now. As with death, any illness can indeed bring on the DABDA grieving process. I went through it with my illness 3 years ago which changed our lives forever. And now in a sence, we are in the DABDA process now. In a way I am glad I have moved on from DENIAL to ACCEPTANCE in the grieving process. However, my husband is still in the DENIAL mode of the grieving process, he will come around. At least he is attending the psych and Dr. appointments with me on this issue. I'll keep in touch and chat soon, gotta go for now. Schel

Went to the doc today and got my script for REQUIP. One of the docs I work with said it could be from iron defenciency. I'll let you know how it works. Schel

THANK YOU TO ALL! We went for conferences last evening and yes the ADD/ADHD thing came up. Thought my husbands eyes were going to pop out of his head! I think he is in a state of denial. Which is ok, but I dont' want to keep dancing around the issue for my sons sake. I am going to get him tested to see what the profesionals think. I am still unsure if this is a ADD thing or just a behavior thing. He had no problems until after winter break and not every day is a bad day for him. I'll have to let the professionals do their job. I did get a name for a referral from the councler we saw yesterday and she said she is very good and not so quick to diagnosis unless absolutely sure. Thanks again for all your support, my lap-band family is always here for me seems like. More than I can say for that parents forum I joined, not even a peep! You all have been very helpful and I appreciate all the helpful advise. Schel

I knew all of you would come through for me! I APPRECIATE all of your great advise and help on this issue. PLEASE keep writing and I'll keep reading. This has helped me tremendously. SIGH..... Paula, I would be more interested in hearing what you have heard about Focus. Thanks again for all your support, I am going to print out everything here and bring it with to my councling this afternoon. I will definately let you all know how things go. Schel

When did your fills really start to work for you?
schel replied to NJChick's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Maggie, I definitely feel restriction. I tried to eat a piece of baked chicken last night and no way was that goin down! So tonight I tried to put some "I can't believe its not butter spray" on it and take tiny baby bites and PAIN PAIN....! nope, dogs got that piece, (minus the bone) too. I settled for a protein shake after that. I also made some weight watchers chocolate peanutbutter cookies with oatmeal and had 2 (they are very small) and only a point a piece and I am full. So happy, "Aunt Flo" is due and usually I could eat the whole fridge but not now, no desire. Very happy with my last fill! Schel:) -
Hello, I have a 9.5cc band with a 4cc fill. I go on Feb 16th for my 2nd fill. Does anyone else have this size band and what was your fill history? Schel
-
Kim, I couldn't agree with you more. I think the docs where I go are to conservative with fills. If this was a RNY thing the deed would be done. There wouldn't be fills just an opening the size of a straw. My doc filled me to 4cc the first time and 6cc the second time in my VG band and it was a week last night and I tried to eat baked chicken and don't know if things "kicked in" a week later as some say, or it was to dry, or I didn't chew it well enough. I felt pain and it didn't want to go down. The dogs got the rest. YUM YUM for them! I wasn't upset, just happy to feel full and some pain that maybe things are working FINALLY!!!!:clap2: Niki... How long have you had the 6cc fill? I felt things different last night a week later. I don't under stand the concept of feeling things a week later, but thats what I felt.:couch2: Well thanks everyone for your input, I guess we are always learning right! Schel

When did your fills really start to work for you?
schel replied to NJChick's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Not sure if my fills are working yet or not. Only had my 2nd fill last Thursday. I do seem to get full quicker, so I guess maybe they are working?? Schel -
I finally noticed restriction yesterday, however I still seem to be able to eat more than I think I should. Next fill I am maybe going to ask for another cc. I have the VG band and it is at 6cc's. I am glad I have room to go though. Schel

I think I finally know what a litte rectriction feels like. Had my fill last Thursday and didn't notice much over the weekend, but today, had oatmeal for breakfast, about a cup and was stuffed and for lunch, a lean cuisine meatloaf and mashed ptoatoes. I am full! FINALLY!!!!!! I just hope it lasts! Schel

First of all, one word...... HIPPA No one needs to know about your leave except you and your DR. as to why you are taking leave. All that needs to be documented is that you are having surgery and how long you need to be out. Not what kind, or for what. HIPPA protects you from the nosey busy-bodies out there, that seem to think they need to know everything about everyone else. If HIPPA is violated your talking major law suite. I only wish I could go back and say I was only having just surgery. I havn't lost like the normal RNY'ers at work, so being my weight loss has been slower, I worry what everyone thinks. Like am I a failure. I know I shouldn't worry what everyone else thinks, but thats just me. Good luck. Schel

Shanna, Do you know if the wife smokes also? In my past, with my brother and his using past, I just know where there is one pot smoker, there is usually another. My prayers go out to the poor baby who has no say in the issue. I have tried it and hated it. I see how people act using it and can't condone it. LAZY! Not to mention, the irritability with others when the drug is not available. I have caught my husband, before we were married who stayed with my brother 10 years ago and told him if he wanted a future with me, he WILL quit or there would be no us. Since then, (we are now married) I have found the nasty substance hid in our garage a couple times. Every time he has been with my brother. I confront him and flush it down the toilet in front of him. He has even gone through the garbage to find the pipe I threw away and said we could get in trouble for having the pipe be found in the garbage. The last time I found it, I put the pipe in the dog shit and said go ahead smoke up buddy! The last time, I flushed the pot and we had a serious talk being we have a 6 year old and the ramifications of what if him and his friend were to find the pot? I told hom this was the last time and next time he would find us in divorce court. I only hope he takes me seriously. I will NOT tolerate another findings. I feel for you on this whole issue and wish you the best. Schel

Hello yaa'll! Went yesterday and I am at 6cc now. Didn't loose an ounce, stayed exactally the same. At least I didn't gain. So we'll see. Can't tell much yet because I'm on liquids, but I'll keep everyone updated. I'm hoping for the best! Schel

I waited longer than the usual person. I first went back in 2002 and was in the process of RNY surgery and became ill with Guillain-Barre syndrome. All was put on hold, from the illness. My face was paralized, my body was shut down, kind of like having a stroke. You can see what GBS is at www.gbsfi.com I wasn't sure I'd ever be able to have any surgery after that without risks. So 2 and 1/2 years down the road, I went to the information class again. That was in October of 2004. In the mean time I was taking care of my dietary consult and psych consult all of which I had to do all over again. Anyways, I made an appointment in January of 2005 and could have set a date possibly at that time, but wasn't 100% sure about surgery and what might happen, so Dr. Schwartz said I needed to do some more thinking about it. Around April, May, I decided I didn't want to go through with it and it wasn't brought up again until after I went to We Fest last year and was disgusted with my no energy, and what I looked like. I decided that fast that I was going to do it. I got home and made my appointment on September 21st and scheduled surgery for November 22nd 2005. Glad I did it and I'd do it again. Wish I wouldn't have waited as long as I did. So thats my story. Good luck to you. Schel

Deb, I went through Abbott and am very happy with the whole experience. I live in Big Lake and am thinking about trying to establish care at Unity so I would be closer to home, for fills. I was in the hospital over night mostly because I also had my gallbladder out at the same time. Otherwise they said I would have gone home the same night. I think I could have gone the same night though, I ended up being in a room with a 70-80 year old lady that coughed and spit up all night. Not much sleep or rest if you know what I mean. Not to mention, I am kind of a "germ" freak, and wanted to disinfect every time she coughed and spit up. Wish you good luck. Schel

Me too! Ive tried Rogaine, and my face and hands swelled I looked like a sumo wrestler. Ive tried Nioxin, and that was just a expensive smelling shampoo & conditioner with a spray on treatment which only left my scalp red. Didn't notice any difference in the thickness or regrowth of my hair. Anyways......Before surgery, I had finally been able to grow it out to have the latest longer style and then got a glimpse of it in the mirror one morning and saw just how thin I had become on top. My mom had RNY and now wears a wiglet.(Thats a 1/2 wig which is on the top of your head and it blends in with your own hair.) I talked with her and was almost ready to go and research the wiglet thing, and went in for my "FEBRUARY BLUES" hair make over, usually I try the dye job at home by myself and end up spending double to get it fixed, but this time I went in and had "JUST A TRIM" in mind and ended up at a "WEAK MOMENT" and said "CUT IT!" She layered it up on top and the sides and I cried for a couple days off and on. I actually had a lot of "looks nice" comments on it and have decided it isn't so bad. I do have to say though, I don't like having to style it every day. Since it was long before, I could get up and do the pony tail thing, but since getting it layered I have to do it every morning. I guess I'll just live with styling for now and increase my protein and hopefully it will grow, grow, grow and not fall out any more. One of the docs I work with said a B-complex vitamin would help, or check my thyroid, or my B-12 level, or check my iron. Well...... I already am on synthroid, I already am taking a multivitamin, and separate iron suppliment, however I need to look into the B-complex vitamin thing. In the meantime it's still February and well.... I..am kinda sick of the color of my hair so...... no I will not "GO INTO THE PHONE BOOTH" as my aunt calls it.(doing the dye job myself) My mom thinks that I should wait until my hair recovers from the thinning and well.... I probably will. But then again... It is Feburary!!!!! Can you tell I get the winter blues? Well anyways good luck to all you out there with the hair woes. Just know your not in this boat by yourself. There's a phone booth out there for everyone! Schel

Laura, So does that mean, that you have a total of 8cc in your band? When I go in for a fill which I have only had one, he takes all the fill out 1st and then puts 4cc in. All I know is I don't feel any restriction on a regular basis. I even had a beer yesterday and felt nothing. I am so looking foreward to Thursday for my next fill. Schel

Hello, My question is; I have this treadmill in my basement and it has a 250lb. weight limit on it. My delima, I am 19 pounds over the limit and wonder what could happen if I use it and I am over the maximum weight limit on it. FYI- It has no more warrenty, it is 4 years past warrenty date. It is a very nice treadmill, it cost me $800 new. Should I just use it and see what happens? Or what does everyone recommend? Trading it in to a place like 2nd Wind Exercise Equiptment in not an option due to $. If you know what I mean. Reason I am asking this, is my weight loss is at a stand still and I want to mix it up and increase my weight burning with some exercise. Schel

I must admit I was asked to bring the monthly Birthday Cake to work the other day and was asked to make the "Almost Better than Sex" cake. Well I did and I also had a piece. I felt so guilty, I didn't eat the rest of the day. I will not make any more no no deserts or cakes to bring to work. If they want a treat from me, it will be healthy from now on. I guess we learn from our mistakes and I sure did. Recipies are from my Weight Watchers cookbooks from now on. Schel

Looking for November 2005 Banders!
schel replied to bostonfatgirl's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Doin fine, weight loss seems to be at a stand still. I go next Thursday for my 2nd fill and am going to ask to have more salene added in hopes of being more sucessful. I am glad that I did this, I just want more! I live in MN and got out and walked the one day it got up in the 40's but now, it's 1 degree and I am a wimp to the cold. Keep up the good work everybody and stay positive, :clap2: I know it's hard, but what better support could we all ask for? Schel -
NEAT! Very nice! I am so jealous. My basement is cement, wood and sheet rock. And boxes of tubs and sinks to be put together. Enjoy! Schel
