  1. My surgeon said family history doesn't matter, so I'm glad to hear it DID matter in your case. I had gestational diabetes with my pregnancies, and my mom and grandpa are Type II diabetics. My mom's sister had a massive heart attack at age 45. (I'm 44.) Just the gestational diabetes puts me at higher risk for diabetes. I think when I see my doc on Wednesday I will be sure to mention all of those again so we can build a very strong case. My husband is also considering gastric sleeve, but his BMI is 44, so he's almost guaranteed approval. We are committed to making these changes together, but I'm hoping to go first.
  2. My doc said usually a couple weeks, but I've seen posts here that it can be as short as a few days.
  3. Thank you so much for the encouragement! While I love my surgeon, his office is another story. I really haven't heard anything besides "When you're don't with the insurance requirements, let us know." But I guess I'll know in a couple weeks regardless.
  4. I am only 5' 1", so while 190 lbs might be horrible for many people, it's a lot on me!! It's been quite awhile since they actually measured my height, they usually just ask me. I was diagnosed with PCOS many years ago, but it hasn't been an issue for a long time. I should probably bring that up to this doctor though. I had no idea that was a co morbidity! You all have been so helpful! I will keep you posted.
  5. Exactly! Congrats on your approval. I hope you're right!
  6. Thank you. I didn't know the doc could do that! I'll hope for an approval, but that's good to know for back-up!
  7. Hi There! I have my last appointment with my primary care physician next Tuesday. I am probably looking at a September surgery because of work schedule. I also have Cigna, and I am hoping they approve me. I have a BMI of 36, but several comorbidity factors including a degenerating hip, so getting this weight off once and for all is important to me. Cigna requires 3 months of appointments plus a "final appointment," which ends up being 4 appointments total- almost 4 months. My appointments were March, April, May and June. My husband is also working towards an approval. He started in May, and he's almost guaranteed an approval because he has a BMI of 44. Good luck! I have found the process pretty easy really. Just time consuming.
