  1. Considering dates for my sleeve surgery, and the one that looks the best and most convenient is in July- just 3 weeks before a 1-week boating vacation. We will have a house, so having to prepare my own stuff won't be an issue. So I need some advice from those who have already had their surgery. Would you do it? If I don't do it, I will likely have to wait until October. Thanks!
  2. Have you tried a soy-based shake? Maybe it's the whey you're having a problem with. ProtiDiet makes some good ones.
  3. Unjury unflavored is just whey protein isolate and soy lecithin. It mixes into just about anything.

    Tasting Room - Protein Drinks

I just ordered a sample pack of Syntrax Nectar. 1 each of 15 flavors for $15 plus $1.99 shipping. It's limited to 1 offer per person. I just called their customer service number directly: 866-333-7403.

    Tasting Room - Protein Drinks

I have always liked the Premier chocolate shakes from costco, but they get boring after awhile. I ordered 1 each of every unjury flavor, and I liked them all! The Classic Chocolate tastes a little too much like cake batter for me, but I do like the Chocolate Splendor instead. I haven't tried the chicken Soup yet. I mixed the unflavored into some fruit punch flavored Spark from Advocare (sugar free energy mix) and that was great! I can't do anything with soy in it, so I guess I need to look into some of these the rest of you have posted!
  6. My insurance finally confirmed they received the pre-auth information from my surgeon TODAY! So now they have 5 business days to review. I certainly hope I'm approved- it feels like the process is draaaaagggggging.
  7. I've been in this boat since June. My doc said not to lose any weight, but I'm ready to get on with it! I started the process in January. The only thing I know to do is sample protein shakes so you have an idea of what you like, and research so you have realistic expectations.

    ANY AUGUST SLEEVERS

I had a home sleep study. I hear it's not much different than a sleep clinic study. I couldn't sleep in the same room as my husband because of his snoring. While the mask thingy bothered me at first, it really wasn't bad. Good luck!
  9. My response: Oh, you noticed I've lost weight! Well I've noticed you haven't stopped being an arsehole. My wedding picture is hanging in my office. I was 60 pounds lighter then- just 4 years ago. People CONSTANTLY say, "That's you? You look....different." I say, "If you mean I got fat, yep!" It kinda' puts them in their place. They feel like jerks. Sometimes you just have to be the bold one.
  10. I bought one each of every Unjury flavor to try out. I have tried everything but the chicken soup flavor, and I like them all. I'm not sure how they compare price-wise to other options, but the Premier shakes from Costco sometimes make me feel queasy, and I haven't had surgery yet.
  11. Thank you. My mom is okay, but she's been having a hard time managing her diabetes. She also had an emergency appendectomy last night, so maybe that was part of her recent blood sugar issues? Blood sugar is affected by all sorts of stuff!

    ANY AUGUST SLEEVERS

I started the process in January, but I thought my Feb apt with the surgeon would count towards my monthly appointments. It didn't, so I just had my last appointment on June 3rd. I'm hoping for an August surgery date, but I'm not approved yet. My surgeon's office still hasn't submitted to my insurance company, so I'm eagerly awaiting an approval and an August surgery date!! I live in Nevada. I'd be happy to have some buddies as this process continues!
  13. The surgeon's office finally called back on Wednesday. (A week since my primary care doc submitted the last items to them). Surgeon's office said they never received doc's notes from the April and May visits. Grrr...that's why I called and asked if they had everything! I called Cigna today, and they still haven't received anything from my surgeon. I know in the scheme of things, this is not important, but it sure is frustrating. I hear how quickly everyone's offices are getting approvals, and I'm a little jealous! Even after I get approval, I can't schedule surgery myself. We have a secondary insurance called Surgery Plus that has to do that, so I'm sure that will be another hoop to jump through.
  14. Yesterday, Cigna said they had the information from my doctor and I was under review. Today they say they've never received anything. SO FRUSTRATING! So I left a message with my surgeon's office. (The insurance gal never answers her phone. Also frustrating). I know I'm not their only patient, but it has now been a week since my doc sent everything to my surgeon.

    Cigna questions-frantic

I also have Cigna. 2 years worth of medical records were required, but nobody has said anything about the BMI having to be over 40 (or 35 with comorbidities) for that whole time. My doc said Cigna will use the BMI from your first appointment in your 90-day series, but to be careful I didn't drop below 35 during the 90 days. (I'm a 36 plus several comorbidities.). I am in review with Cigna and should know by the end of the week.
  16. I called Cigna today and was told I'm under review, so fingers crossed!!
  17. I know my surgeon does single incision surgery, but I don't know if he always does. I will call them next week and find out. I think it's odd that I don't have another appointment with the surgeon after my first consult. I will just go in the day before for pre-op.

    PREOP psych evaluation!

My appointment consisted of questions about depression, suicide, etc. I was honest and said I had struggled with depression off and on, but not suicide. The doc wanted to make sure I didn't think this was a "magic pill" that would solve all of life's problems. She also asked about support at home, and how I envisioned my life before and after surgery. When we were done, she asked if I had any questions about pre-op that should be addressed by the nutritionist or surgeon. She said her job was to make sure that patients are realistic about the surgery and what it means in terms of recovery too. In other words- you'll be fine!
  19. I have had various surgical procedures over the years, and when the hospital has allowed it, my children have always come for a quick visit just to see where Mommy is and to know that I'm ok. I think it can be a valuable experience for a child to understand that you can be in the hospital and not be on your death bed. Too many times, a child's first or only experience with the hospital is a really sick relative. That said, they have never stayed more than 15 or 20 minutes- just long enough to understand that Mommy will be tired when she gets home, but that everything is ok. Because my children had experienced my surgeries, when my son had to have an emergency appendectomy at age 9, he was quite the trooper and knew that even if he felt really bad when he woke up, he would be feeling better soon. I realize 9 isn't a "little kid," but I still think the experience helped him.
  20. I would be interested. I live 4 hours from any major city, so I have to buy whatever I'm going to buy online anyways. However, I'm an Amazon Prime member, so I'm always watching prices to see if I can beat it on Amazon and save the shipping.
  21. Ok, that's defi a no then! Thank you. I hadn't thought about not being able to go swimming! It will likey be 100 degrees or more where we are going, so that's a problem. I might just have to wait until October.

    Who Are You?

Hi all! I'm 44 years old, and I'm a trainer for a construction company who works at the gold mines of Nevada. I am happily married to the love of my life after divorcing my a-hole ex . I have 3 boys from my previous marriage. They are 20, 19 and 14. My oldest is serving an LDS (Mormon) mission in Ukraine for 2 years, which has brought its own set of emotional issues and fears. He gets home in September. My middle one is serving an LDS mission in Baltimore, Maryland for 2 years. My youngest lives with us, and he is a Freshman in high school. In 2008-9, I lost 50 lbs and got down to my goal weight with diet and exercise. I was a runner, having run a marathon, several 1/2 marathons, and a 1/2-Ironman triathlon. I loved being in shape, and I loved how my body looked. I remarried in 2011 and have spent these last few years caretaking my sick husband and eating to satisfy every emotion and fear that came with him being so sick. Since 2011, I have not only gained back the 50 lbs I had lost, but I gained another 20+ on top of that. My degenerating hip makes it nearly impossible to do any form of exercise now, so I just keep packing on the pounds. I realize that having 70-80 lbs to lose might seem easy compared to some of the challenges others face, but on my 5'1" frame, it's quite a bit! I finally decided I have to get my weight on track before I end up like most of my family- diabetic, with heart conditions, etc. My husband is also considering gastric sleeve, and he will likely have surgery later this year. In my free time, I like to garden and read. Someday I hope to be able to at least get back on a bike, even if I can't run again.
  23. I'm feeling much more hopeful! Thank you everyone!
  24. This is exactly how I feel about my surgeon! Glad to know I'm not alone on that. I know that oftentimes, really good surgeons don't have great bedside manner. It's a personality thing. I get that, but his office should make up for it. HAHA! Anyways, thanks again for the info. I now have a list of items to talk to my primary care doc about.
