    March Bandsters: MASTER THREAD

Well, thought I better come jump on here since I'm on liquids today after my fill yesterday and I am starving. I was supposed to do 24 hours of liquids which, by my calculations, ended at 2:30 this afternoon, so then I could start 2 or 3 meals of creamy stuff, creamy Soups, cottage cheese, yogurt, etc. Well, I made some cheddar cheese Soup and it was delicious... I was still hungry after eating that so then went and made from sugar free pudding, it was also very delicious. Just finished eating that and that's when I decided I better come in here and try to get my mind off of food for awhile by logging in here. I also grabbed a piece of gum and I'm chewing it like crazy right now, lol. Whew, now that I've gotten that out of my system, I should be able to survive til tomorrow when I can resume eating "normal" again!! Harley, love your tattoo, great reward, you go girl!!! IlandGurl, I wish I could say my first fill went as smooth as yours, after the initial stick, I felt him moving the needle around making sure he was in the port, I guess, but then it was over, real quick, thank goodness. I didn't have to do the barium, after the stick it was over and done with and time to go home.

Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot

Thanks for the cudo's Janet. I'm patting myself on the back right now too. One thing I neglected to tell you guys was that I also saw my rheumatologist today and told him I had the lapband surgery, he was elated to hear that. On the downside, he told me that I would be better off using a recumbent bicycle to exercise or go to the pool instead of the doing my treadmill. However, he said that since it's helping me lose weight to keep doing what I'm doing, so on with the treadmill. I am thinking about buying the bicycle though so maybe I can alternate it with the treadmill to save my knees some wear and tear. I'll let you know if I decide to go that route, for now it's the treadmill. :w00t:

Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot

Hi everyone, just wanted to share with you that I got my first fill this afternoon, yippee!! Hoping to feel some of the same restriction that I felt right after surgery 5 1/2 weeks ago. I'd lost 14 lbs since my last visit 4 weeks ago to the surgeon's office and he was very proud of me!! I've lost a total of 38 lbs since January and I can't be happier!! Well, just wanted to share that news, I need to go downstairs and get on my treadmill, I'll talk later.

Hi Queen, it was nice meeting you last nite at the group meeting too. Most of the meetings that I've been we've had time to talk among other with a question and answer period worked in. Last nite, was the first time since I've been going that we didn't have that. Come back to the next one and hopefully, you get that chance for questions and answers. Well, everyone, I just got back from getting my first fill a couple of hours ago and have to admit it wasn't has bad as I thought it would be. It hurt a little, but was over really quick. Looking forward to some restriction. Well til next time!!

    March Bandsters: MASTER THREAD

Hi Everyone, haven't been on in a few days, tried a day or so ago and I guess the website was having problems, then yesterday I was to tired to login when I got home from work. I got my first fill a a couple of hours ago, 2.5 cc's, in my 10cc band (I think it's 10 cc's, might be 14cc). Oh well, it hurt just a little but was over real quick. Now I'm back on liquids for another day, and then a day of creamy liquids before starting back on regular food again. I'm down 18 pounds since surgery for a total weight loss of 38 pounds since January, woohoo!! Everyone else keep up the good work, I need to go do the treadmill now, talk later!!
  6. Hi Queen, it was nice meeting you at the support group the other night. I'm sorry we didn't have longer to chat after the meeting, maybe we can next month. I had my first fill a little over an hour ago and I'm glad it's over. I guess it wasn't that bad, it did hurt a little but it was over real quick. Next time, I might have him numb me up first. Now I have to go back to the Day 1 menu, liquids for 24 hours then a day of creamy liquids before going back to my normal eating. I'm 5 1/2 weeks post op now.

I can't remember, have you had your surgery yet or is it coming up?? Well glad you contacted me, we can be support buddies. :)

Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot

Janet and Phyllis you two crack me up! I have erased HOPE from my dictionary and will now be using WILL in place of it, lol. I also suffer from constipation so was glad to see the recommendations above. I'll have to try some of the Fiber bars, that might be good for a change. Today is my 5 week bandiversary and the first day that I have no restrictions on my menu, yippee!! Well, when I say no restriction, I still have to avoid/limit high fat foods and foods with high sugar content, but I'm ok with that. I feel like I'm officially on my way to a healthy life today since I can make a wider choice of foods. This will only be a couple of days worth of picking the newer foods though, since I get my first fill this Friday and then I have to go back to liquids for 24 hours and then back to softer, bland foods for 2-3 meals, but that's ok if I get some restriction back, I can handle this!!!

Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot

Lynn, Way to go for 2 lbs this week, that's great, keep up the good work. Janet & Denise, Congratulations on your making it to goal Denise, and Janet not far behind her. I can only hope that I do as well as you both have done. Great job!!

possibly getting first fill today, scared

Hi Needtolose, I go in Friday for my first fill and I'm also nervous about it. Let me know if it hurt and how long it took to do it, I'm more nervous about them sticking me with the needle than anything..

Ghost, thank you for the invite to the group last nite, I enjoyed myself and I will be back next month. I'm sorry I didn't take the time to formerly introduce myself last nite, but I had to hurry home after the meeting. I'll take care of that next month, lol...

Hi Queen, I attended the support group last nite for the first time and I thought it was really good. I would say there were probably 15 people there, 3 or 4 of which have not been banded yet. Apparently, this group had stopped meeting about 14 months ago and just started meeting again 3 months ago, so last nite was the 3rd time they have met since starting up. We discussed our what we thought our goals would be 6 months from now and then just basically had question and answer session and everyone discussing their journeys along the way and the problems they might be experiencing now. The next meeting is May 12 and then another will be June 16. Dr. Hoehn/Hitchcock have their support group meeting this Thursday at 6:00 at SMMC - Human Resources area if you want to attend this one. I can't remember if you were against going to their group or not, but just letting you know it's coming up. The group there is quite a bit larger, probably 50-75 people but is still a good group in my opinion. Regardless, hope to meet you soon at one of the meetings.

Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot

Well, today was weigh day for me at home after putting my scale away for a week and I lost 3.6 lbs, yippee!! This brings my total since surgery of 14.8 lbs plus the 20 I lost pre-op for a grand total of 34.8 lbs gone!!! Guess I'll continue with the once a week weigh in and see how things go for awhile. This lost also put me under 250, which was another milestone for me. I haven't see 248 for a couple of years now!! Well, I survived at our dinner theater last nite. I ate a few bites of salad, a couple of ounces of chicken and fish, a couple of bites of mashed potato and a bite or two of pasta and 1 small baby carrot. Oh almost forgot, I also had 2 delicious bites of DH's chocolate cobbler for dessert, this is a chocolate brownie with a scoop of ice cream on top. I have to say this is the first time that I have cheated since surgery, but I kept telling myself that I wasn't really cheating since I only had a couple of bites and I considered this part of my changing lifestyle. (SMILE!!) Also thought my scale might have gone down a little more if it weren't for this dinner last nite, but I'm not going to get down or think about that since my scale went down in the right direction for the week, maybe it will be more next week, even though I can't complain with 3.6 lost for the week, at my age!!

Fenton, Congrats on your weightloss and book deal, keep up the good work. Well, this morning was weigh in day for me after I put my scale in hiding for a week and when I weighed I was down 3.6 lbs for the week. Woowhoo!!! That's 14.8 lbs since surgery plus 20 pre-op for a total lost of 34.8. I think the key to weightloss for me, must be staying off of the scale all week, lol. Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot

Janet and ThinnerDenise, thanks for your replies about the salad. The dinner theater is tonite a couple of hours from now. Not sure if I'll venture into the salad or not, my tummy has been churning today and I've already had 4 Mylanta tablets today, so I'm going to need to be careful tonite. Anyway, I'll report tomorrow on how my experience went tonite plus I'll weigh myself in the morning for my weekly weighin to see how I did over the last week, so I don't want to blow anything tonite by overeating.

    No wonder I feel better..

Hi Liza, I'm only 4 1/2 weeks out post op and I was told no heavy lifting over 10 lbs for the first 6 weeks, please be careful I'd hate to see your band slip or your port flip, don't forget this is the healing period. Congrats on your weight loss, that's fantastic!!

Hi Kerri, I was 1 month out yesterday as well and I'm still getting the achy feeling around my port area too. I notice it more when I'm up doing things around the house, it's more of a ache and not really a pain. Like you, I can feel my port when I put my hand over the achy area, at least the actual pain is finally gone. I think what we're experiencing is probably normal and you probably did exert yourself more than your body is used to, I'm sure you'll be ok.

Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot

I haven't been online the last few days either, no excuses here, just been being lazy when I get home from work. I have been doing my treadmill 45 minutes every other day, so that's a good thing. I've also managed to stay off of the scale since last Monday so I hope it shows a downward sign Monday morning. Going to dinner theater tomorrow night, first time since surgery. We have season tickets and go 5 times a year, this will be interesting to see what I can find to eat off of the gourmet buffet. I figure they will have garlic mashed potatoes and some kind of chicken and a vegetable, so I should be ok. They also serve a salad before the buffet which I absolutely love, but my dietician's guidelines say lettuce is best tolerated after 6 months, so not sure if I should eat any of it or not. I haven't had any problems so far getting anything else down, but I'd hate to have a PB at the theater. Has anyone whose only out 4 weeks eaten a salad yet? Did you have any problems?

Scrappy, congratulations on your 5 lb weightloss that is quite an achievement. I've been waiting to weigh myself on Monday and keeping off of the scale this week so I'll let you know what it says when I weigh Monday. Hopefully, it's going down in the right direction. Tomorrow night DH and I are going to the dinner Theater for which we have season tickets. This will be the first show since surgery, so I'll have to pick and choose what I eat off of the buffet. I'm going to try my best to stick with as healthy as I can get food of this gourmet type buffet. It will be interesting to say the least!!

Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot

Congrats on the grandbaby. I have to say that I'm a grandma to my step-daughter's little girl who is now 3 years old and I love it. The only thing better that could happen would be for my son and his wife of 6 years to have one of their own, but regardless I love em all to death. Enjoy being a grandmother, it's awesome!!

Kerri & Rugman, thank you guys for the input into the amount of carbs you are trying to stay under. I did the low carb diet many many years ago and thought 30 was the magic number, but I wasn't sure. I know that I am getting more than 30 carbs a day now. I'm going to try and be more conscious of the carb figure now too and see what that does for me. Also, Kerri congrats on your weight loss, that is so awesome!! I've finally gotten myself somewhat motivated to using my treadmill at least 45 minutes every other day, so the extra activity should help make my scale inch down some hopefully. My clothes are beginning to feel really loose and that's also making me feel really good about the way things are going. I'm going to get in my closet this weekend and see if I can get into any of my smaller clothes.

Fenton, I've been watching that series too and trying to follow his 4 Golden Rules. I truly believe that is the secret to being thin and I'm trying to incorporate it into my band lifestyle, as well. I'm also trying to get DH to follow those rules, but it just seems to go in one ear and out the other. :rolleyes2:

    March Bandsters: MASTER THREAD

My scale has been stuck the past couple of weeks also, but I did manage to lose 2.8 lbs last week for a total loss since surgery 11.2 lbs plus 20 pre-op for a grand total of 31.2 lbs so I'm happy. I decided Monday when I weighed not to weight again for a week (hope I can make it that long) and hope the scale moves then. I've been hungry a lot more the last few days more so than I have been. I'm not due for a fill til 4/25 and I'm ready. For people who are watching their carbs, how many carbs are you trying to stay at during the day. Mine vary and I really don't know what my target carb rate should be. Any suggestions would be appreciated. My calorie content is still averaging 500-700 calories a day and I'm on second stage of mushies where I can eat chicken, beef, pork, Peanut Butter, etc.

Texgirl, don't beat yourself up over your slip up this past weekend, today is a new day, just make better choices today!! Remember this is a lifestyle change and we will have "slip up's" once in a while.
  25. thin2bme

how do you know if your band has slipped?

Blyn, I wasl also banded on March 19. I find it hard to get all my liquids down during the day also, and what I have to do is start drinking when I first get up and I only stop 30 minutes before I eat, during, and 1 hour after, then start drinking again. If I don't do this I don't get all my liquids in either. I am managing to get in between 50-64 ounces daily depending on when I get started and when I finish at nite. Are you drinking more than this and if so, are you chugging your drinks instead of sipping? If so, this might be why you're puking. Try slowing down and not to drink more than 8 oz per hour, this is about 2 oz per 15 minutes, this is what my dietician has told me. If you are already doing this and still puking, I would suggest calling your surgeon because if you are puking very often you can risk having your band slip. Keep me posted and hope things get better for you.
