Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot
thin2bme replied to IndioGirl55's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hi All, Well I'm back from my 4 day weekend to Branson, I loved every minute of it. I have to admit though, that I did not follow my food plan everyday, but I did try to make healthy choices most days. I did splurge though and we ate out everyday and I also ate more than what I've been eating and found out that I really do have some restriction even though I didn't think I had much. Anyway, I still came away for the week losing 1.8 lbs this week, better than last weeks .6 of a lb. Anyway, i was scheduled for a fill this Friday, but we have to go back to Branson over the weekend to pickup our RV from the repair shop so I rescheduled my fill for today @ 3:30. This will be my 2nd fill, so hopefully, this one will be uneventful since I now know what to expect. I'm looking forward to more restriction. I'm not regretting my decision for the lapband at all, I wish that I had done it sooner. -
I just found the thread from the other AT&T (Cingular) employee that I was referring to and bumped it up so you can read it. You might post a Private Message to both of the people in that thread and see what they can tell you. You'll find this thread under the Insurance & Financing category on the website. Hope this helps.

I'm bumping this thread up, for AT&T (Cingular) people who are being denied WLS surgery.
-
Hi, I also work for AT&T in Kansas City and I just had lapband surgery done on March 19 through United Healthcare and mine was also paid for. I've talked to someone else on this website that works for AT&T that was formerly Cingular and I know they were having problems getting it covered also. If you do a search for AT&T you might be able to find the person who was also working for AT&T (Cingular) and find out if they have had any success. Unfortunately, until the next contract is written, your friend might be stuck without any WLS coverage, but hopefully, it will get written in and she can get the surgery. Good luck.

Lynn and Ajoneen, Sorry, I was quoting Ajoneen's message not yours, sorry.
-
Ajoneen, I know how discouraged you must feel, because I'm not feeling any restriction either and I don't get another fill til May 23. I also have been able to eat everything that's been put in my mouth without any problems, steak, chicken, etc. I've only had 1 fill that was 2.5 cc's in my 14 cc band and I have to use my will power in order to not overeat. I'm not giving up on my band because I know it's going to take more than 1 fill and hope you don't give up either. I also journal EVERYTHING that goes into my mouth and I am beginning to have cravings for pizza but I just keep telling myself that I didn't go through the surgery just so I could continue to eat and I know that I will get there eventually, please have patience. You can do this.

Phyl, We also love Branson and we stay at the RV resort you are referring to, it's called Treasure Lake RV Resort. We actually have a membership there and we are able to stay for $3 per nite. When we first jointed 4 or 5 years ago, we could stay for $1 per nite. It's only a 3 to 3 1/2 hour drive for us so we are usually in Branson 2-3 times a year. This year we haven't been yet so I'm looking forward to it. We have to be back to work on Monday, so we'll just be there Thursday thru Sunday and then it's back home. But, in a couple of weeks we'll be off in the RV again to Nashville for a little over a week for the CMA Fest, love that country music.. Costs of diesel scares me, but don't want to waste money on a hotel when we've spent so much money for the RV so have to bite the bullet and just go and buy the fuel and roll on. :tongue2: Someday, after my DH and I retire, maybe we'll be able to meet up with you somewhere in our travels. I'm hoping to retire from AT&T in February of next year. (LAUGHING) I told DH he can't retire from the Fire Department til I retire!! -

Janet, sorry to hear about your DIL, I hope she is doing well now. Well, yesterday was my weekly weigh in and I was very discouraged to only see .6 lb loss since last week. Anyway, since I track my food daily, I know that I had a large increase of sodium last week plus I was not able to do my treadmill as often as I have been because my FIL is in the hospital and that truly through my eating and exercising off tremendously. Anyway, I was down in the dumps yesterday because of the slight weight loss for the week but this morning, after being up 2 or 3 times in the nite going to the bathroom decided to weigh again this morning and was down another .8 lb putting me at 239.2 which made me much happier this morning getting under 240 so I'm in a much better frame of mind today. This weekend my DH and I are going to Branson for a long weekend in our RV so I'll have to be really careful of what I eat so hopefully, I won't gain weight before I weigh in again next Monday. At least having the RV, I can prepare most of my food there which should help. I'm not do for another fill til May 23 so it's been real easy getting everything down that goes into my mouth, so I'm living on lots of will power right now. I can do this, I can do this, I just need to keep telling myself this!! -
Salgood, just saw your post. How are things going with your insurance approval. I work for AT&T and didn't have any problems at all getting approved.

Denise, I went through the very same thing as you a couple of years ago with my mother. Not sure if you are aware that your dad can keep his house and still stay in Assisted Living. I found out that once your dad's income is virtually depleted, no savings, etc. that Medicaid will pick up the cost of Assisted Living. He can keep his home, maybe you need to put selling his house on the back burner and let Medicaid kick in. Having the stress of selling his house and belongings would be one less thing you would need to worry about. I know this is a very trying time for you and I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers. -
Glad to see you made up your mind, congratulations, I don't think you'll regret it for a minute. Everyone is different in what they go through before scheduling surgery. In my case, I had to attend a seminar which I did in November and then I had to see a physchologist 3 times, a nutritionist, and take a pshyc evaluation. After the phsychologist released me, then the surgeon's office submitted my paperwork to the insurance company and I was banded about 4 1/2 months later.
-
Hi, I've only been banded for 7 weeks and have lost 23 lbs since then, plus 20 lbs pre-op. I like you have lost weight in the past and always seem to put it back on and I'm hoping this new tool will help the weight stay off this time. I have a sit down desk job also and was told that I could return to work in 1 week, I took off about 2 1/2 weeks though just because I was so tired, but could have gone back in 1 week if I had to. As for the hospital stay, I went in for surgery at 9:30am and was home the same day about 6:00pm. I think some surgeons keep the patient overnight but not all of them. Good luck in your decision.

Janet, Congratulations on reaching your goal, that's fantastic, great job. I can't wait til I can say the same thing!! -
I've only been banded 7 weeks, but it sounds to me like you have experienced being stuck. I've had this sensation a handful of times myself and my doctor said that it was stuck, mine was with dry chicken. Hope this helps.

Gralda, I used Gas-X strips also for gas pain with little to no affect. I called my doctor and they recommended Mylanta, so I bought some of the chewable Mylanta tablets which you can take 2-4 tablets at one time and this helped my gas problems tremendously. -

Welcome to the newbies that have found this fifties thread, this is a great place to be. Ha, newbies, I still consider myself a newbie since I was just banded March 19, so I still chuckle to think that I'm not so new anymore, hehehe. Anyway, yesterday was weigh day and I lost another 3 lbs last week, for a total of 22 lbs since surgery and 20 lbs pre-op for a grand total of 42 lbs since January, so I can't complain. My short term goal is to lose another 8 lbs by end of May before I leave for vacation on June 1, so I'm on track so far. I'm increasing the number of days that I do my treadmill from 3-4 days a week to 5 days a week and I do 45 minutes each time. I'm going to stay with this regimen for awhile. Talk later, better get back to work. -
Hi Everyone, I've been reading here, just haven't had much to say the last few days, so that's my reason for not being here. I'm still on track but finding it harder to eat the right foods, but I'm down another 3 lbs this week for a total of 22 lbs lost since surgery and a grand total of 42 lbs since January, so I can't complain. I'm shooting to lose another 8 lbs by end of May before we leave on our vacation June 1 and I'm on track for that. Fenton, congrats on the 6" loss in pants size, that is an awesome NSV. I'm looking forward to my 2nd fill on May 23 and hoping for more restriction as I seem to be able to eat probably a cup or more of food right now which is more than I've been able to eat in the past. I just make myself stop eating and so far so good. I do think I have a little restriction since my first fill on April 25, but know that I need more. Everyone keep up the good work, I know it's hard, but we can do it.

I had my first fill last Friday and I only received 2.5 cc's in my 14cc band. Again, I think it must be the doctor's preference..

Much as I'm LOVING this initial weight loss . . .
thin2bme replied to Pnw_Red's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Well, I was banded on March 19 and I just got my first fill last Friday. I'm still not feeling much, if any, restriction AND my calories have not been over 750 per day. Not because I couldn't have eaten more, but because my dietician guidelines say that I should not be eating more than 2-4 oz at each meal. With such little food and staying on plan, I cannot seem to get over 750 calories in any one day and I log everything that I put into my mouth.. -
My first NSV! Share yours as they happen!
thin2bme replied to HarleyGirl's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I had an NSV last nite, when my DH gave me hug after I got home from work, he told me "he could tell I was losing weight because he could get his arms all the way around me again". That put a smile on my face!! -
Diane, I am so sorry to hear about the tumor, I'll keep you in my prayers. Please keep us posted.
-
Erika, glad to hear that you held off on your fill and great job on your weight loss. Sounds like you do still have some restriction since you encountered those problems right after surgery. Keep up the good work.

Janet, my knees are holding out so far on the treadmill, my left knee is the worst one and I am managing to do 45 minutes on the treadmill doing the Weight Loss 2 program on the machine which includes inclines from 0-12 and speeds of 1.00-2.50. It burns a little over 400 calories and I figure as long as I can continue to do that program without my knees being in too much pain, I'm thinking I might just stick with the treadmill. I had no idea you would burn that many less calories on the bike, no wonder the doctor told me since the treadmill was working for me that it would be ok to use it. I'll just have to let my body talk to me in terms of which workout I do. I'm thinking about trying out the Weight Loss 3 program in a few days, I have no idea what the difference in it is vs the #2 program that I'm doing now. I'm starting to get used to #2 and think that since my endurance might be getting better it's time to move onto #3. One more day of #2 tomorrow, I think, then on #3, lol. Thanks for the info on the bike, I needed that..
