    Does your stomach growl?

I'm 11 months out now and my new plumbing does make noise but it's settled down a lot in the last 6 months or so. It will make noise occasionally now but typically it's when I need more liquid/water.

    TREAT YO SELF

My first treat came at 50 pounds lost and I bought myself a SmartTV that is in front of my treadmill so I can watch Netflix and workout. I've also used purchases at Sephora as incentive...massages, new nail polishes... My current treat is eyelash extensions. No more food treats to myself - unless it's something totally OK like a Vitamin Water Zero or a Trimino.

    Endoscopy

I had an upper endoscopy last year - 6 months pre-op - and I was scared out of my mind but it wasn't a big deal at all. I asked for some anti-anxiety meds as soon as I got there and they gave me a valium. Then when the procedure started, the drug they give you is amazing. The spray they use to numb your gag reflex tastes horrible but that's the worst part of the whole deal. It took me longer to come out of the twilight medicine than the entire look-see took. I was starving when done and we went and I had some oatmeal afterwards - no sore throat or anything. I know it's scary but it's a good prep to see how you'll do when the big surgery day comes!! Just relax and if you need something to calm down, ASK for it!!
  5. I loved V8 in the weeks after surgery - I would add some steak seasoning or some Sriacha and it was like eating a salad.
  6. Forever. It seemed like that anyways. My 3 week stall lasted 2 weeks. I had another at 5 months that lasted a month. Again, it felt like a year but it was a month. Just stay the course. Don't freak out. Use the time to practice patience and hone your good habits - getting all your Protein and Water in, exercising, getting appropriate sleep. Just don't give up.
  7. During the 2 week pre-op liquid diet, I lost 20 pounds. That was the fastest the weight came off, even post-op. I struggled to lose ANYthing in the 6 months leading up to surgery.
  8. I thought I over-did it at kickboxing last week but it's been 10 days and I still have a very tender spot just below my rib cage on my left side - almost straight down from my armpit - which Google tells me is where my spleen is located. The pain is not easing up, in fact I'd say it's getting more intense. How long do I let this go? I have been racking my brain trying to remember is anything spleen related was listed as a side effect of RNY and I can't think of a thing. I've been healthy - not a sniffle or a cold so it's not related to mono. I have been getting dizzy when I stand up so maybe anemia?? Anyone else experience this??

    Spleen Pain?

I don't have my gallbladder anymore...so I don't think that's the issue. I don't take any hits during my kickboxing circuit - it's strictly me against bags. We did a station involving planks and reaching, which I thought could have pulled something but you'd think that 10 days later, it'd be getting better and not worse by now. I'm always tired, but having three active little boys and a gigantic puppy on top of working full time and fitting in 4 75 minute workouts a week means tired is just part of my life. Haven't noticed any more bruising. Of course, I googled and got scared by some of the reasons behind an enlarged/painful spleen.
  11. Landsend.com has many choices and styles for every leg opening and waist.
  12. I used to run hot. Now I run cold. I wear socks to bed, I wear layers under my clothes. I have a space-heater under my desk at work. Sure don't miss in insulation though!!

    Friday NSV roll call!

Went shopping in a normal (not plus) sized store and even some of their clothing was too big!! Running into someone I worked with two years ago and they didn't recognize me.
  14. Some days, the guts are nice and quiet. Other days, they sound like a storm is rolling in. Does anyone else have a very loud upper gut post-op? Have you found anything that helps quiet it down?
  15. Before - October 2014 At 80 pounds lost - currently at 110 pounds lost.
  16. salad - that's my one food I miss terribly and I just can't do it. I don't know if I just can't grind it up small enough with my teeth or what but I can't enjoy them. And I miss them so much. Cold and crunchy with yummy stuff on it. Really, I miss cold and crunchy.

    Ginger Ale

6+ months out and I have yet to have anything carbonated.
  18. Stalls are part of this journey. Your body does not want to give in to your new ways without rearing it's opinion too. Just stay the course. Follow the rules. Be diligent about logging food, drinking Water, focusing on Protein intake, exercising and sleep. The scale will move again!!!! Do not give up. I've had stalls that lasted one week and I've had one that lasted a month. Just stay the course. You got this.

    Post Op Thrush

I got thrush post-op too. The surgeon ordered the anti-fungal and it worked almost immediately - within three doses.

    Calories a day

6+ months out and I'm still eating 500-600 calories per day.

    Working out

I just use my burned calories to create a bigger deficit of calories in v. calories out. I will ease up SLIGHTLY on my calorie intake - if I feel I need a snack.
  22. I'm doing great. I feel great. My numbers are all great - down over 80 pounds since surgery. I'm one pound away from being down 100 pounds since my heaviest weight ever. I am getting all my Protein in, Water in, following the rules to a T. I do seriously struggle with the vitamins/calcium/supplements - I can never remember to take them and when I do, it feels like I'm constantly popping pills. I've started running. I'm blown away by this but I can run. I can run for 35 minutes straight. I'm not fast nor is it pretty but I can do it and not die. In fact, I feel amazing when I'm done. I don't think I want to be a runner...like in races or anything...but I can do it and it's absolutely blowing my mind. The other "wow" moment is the inches I've lost in the past year. My initial measurements were taken in November 2014. Since then, I've lost 15 inches around my waist and 8 off my hips. I'm sure my thighs and arms have shrunk but they don't take those measurements. I'm in awe. 15 inches. NO WONDER none of my pre-op pants fit!!! I can't believe how far I've come in the past 6 months. I cannot wait to see where the next 6 take me.

    Gall bladder?

Get it out. That dang thing causes more problems. Gall Bladder attacks are horrible and painful like nothing else - including child birth.

    Cramps ... ugh.

Exercise. Lots of Water. Tylenol or a hot bath if it gets really bad. It's the only time I really REALLY miss Advil.
