  1. I'm meeting with Dr. Nwanguma for my first appointment next week. Anything you can share with me would be great. Thanks!

    Inspire protein

I use the BE Inspire Protein powder mixes and absolutely love all the flavors I've tried. There is no after taste and it's not chalky tasting either. My favorite flavor is chocolate Covered Cherries. I just got the new Blueberry Cheesecake flavor and love it too. I mix it with Carbmaster milk I buy from Kroger. I've also mixed it with almond milk.

    Lexington Ky

Hi! I live in Bowling Green, KY. I had sleeve surgery on June 30 with Dr. Nwanguma.
  4. Dr. Nwanguma is great! I had the sleeve done in June and haven't had any complications. I had to pay $15,600 for the surgery, but ended up having to have a hernia repair which my insurance paid for. I also had to take out a temporary insurance policy through the dr office that would cover any complications after surgery that cost $1,300. I highly recommend Dr. Nwanguma and his staff. I have had a great experience so far.

    Dr. Oldham Louisville, KY

Hi and welcome! I was sleeved in June 2015 in Bowling Green, KY with Dr. Nwanguma. I haven't heard anything about Dr. Oldham, but if you feel comfortable with him then I'm sure you are in good hands. Good luck with your surgery!

    Happening fast

When was your surgery? I was sleeved on June 30, 2015. Can't wait until I shrink down into smaller size clothes!
  7. BIG HUG! Having WLS is big and it's a lot for your brain and body to prepare for. You'll be fine. I found that reading about the journey of others and researching the surgery made me feel better when my big day finally arrived. Good luck with your journey!

    EGD

I don't think it would be necessary to request an EGD unless you have had stomach issues. Discuss it with your Dr and see what he/she suggests.
  9. Since I knew I was going to have a hernia repair, this is the reason I gave for taking 2 weeks off. When I went back to work, I ended up telling close co-workers that I also had the gastric sleeve surgery in addition to having a hernia repair. So far, everyone at work has been great. And, to my surprise, when I told one of my co-workers she told me that she had the same surgery 3 years ago. She has been really supportive, so I'm glad that I told her.

    EGD

I was required to have and EGD, but I don't think all surgeons require this. It wasn't bad and only lasted for about 15 minutes. Basically, you're given IV sedation and a tube with a camera is placed down your throat and into your stomach. My surgeon discovered I had a birth defect in my stomach which caused me to have a larger hernia. By that evening, I felt fine...my jaws were a little sore but other than that I was fine. Good luck with your journey!

    Genepro

It has been a lifesaver for me post surgery in helping me get in my protein. I mix it with yogurt and with protein shakes. It's great!
  12. I was a self-pay patient so my process went fast... 1st appointment with surgeon on June 1 and surgery on June 30. I had lots of tests to do, but everything just worked out and went smoothly.

    2 days post op

I'm 10 days post op. The gas pain was the worst part so far. It lasted about 5 days for me. Gas X strips help.

    So I've noticed...

Congratulations on your hard work to lose so much so far! When was your surgery? I was sleeved on 6/30/15.
  15. Congratulations on making the decision to improve your life! I was sleeved on 6/30/15. So far, so good. It's not easy, but it is definitely worth it. You'll have to jump throught lots of hoops to have your surgery, but just keep focused and it will all work out. Good luck on your journey
  16. Once I had all my tests/requirements in to the dr office, I was able to book my surgery. I'm self pay. Started all my tests on June 1 and had surgery on June 30. It was a busy month!

    SURGERY TOMORROW!

I had my surgery this past Tuesday. I was really glad that I had bought Gas X strips. I had a hiatal hernia repair and the sleeve and the gas pain is finally getting better today. The Gas X strips have helped out tremendously!
  18. I had gastric sleeve surgery on June 30. I am on a clear liquid diet this week before moving to a full liquid diet next week. I am supposed to intake 64 oz of liquid per day but am struggling with this. Can anyone share any tips such as how many oz of liquid they get in an hour, etc? Right now, I'm measuring 4 oz and sipping on it for an hour. Thanks!

    Caffeine?

I was told no caffeine but that I could drink caffeine free coffee and tea. I have found many good tasting decafe teas and coffees and I don't really miss the caffeineated versions.
  20. Thanks everyone. The hospital sent me home with a supply of the 1 oz medicine cups so I've been using them. I just need to make myself sip and sip some more (in between naps). I still have a lot of gas in my system which seems like it makes it hard to get the liquids in. I've been walking around the house every 30 minuites and using the Gas X strips. They are great and I highly recommend them. Baby steps I suppose.......
  21. Thanks ShrinkingPeach! You've had great success so far...looking forward to it. Keep up the good work!
  22. I'm getting sleeved on June 30 too Excited, nervous, etc. but looking forward to it all. I don't have to do clear liquids until Monday. My program has had me doing a 2 protein shake a day plus a lean meal for the last 2 weeks.
  23. What food/calorie tracker apps do you like? I think it will be easier for me to track my daily intake on my phone...
  24. That's one I have been considering. I'll check it out! Thanks!
