Oooo, I've got a good stripper name: Kitty LeatherWhip Whatch it! *meow*
-
They are scabbed over, however, 2 of them lie w/in a "skin fold" and the port incision is so long I'm wary of leaving it vunerable. No discharge - like i said at the top of the thread - incisions look GREAT! Clean, tender, no swelling, etc.

Good news is that I don't have any stitches or staples. I did have steri-strips. I've since changed to band aids and have begun itching 5 days later. Do they make hypo band aids?

I've just invented a delicious recipe for those of us on the liquid diet. I took a can of chicken, tossed it in the blender w/ a splash of skim milk and pulsed it until it was liquified. I segmented it into 2oz cups (cuz this is all that I can eat at a sitting right now). I then added a dallop of BBQ sauce and microwaved it for 15 seconds. It's super! try it! and there's 15g of Protein in the 2oz of chicken.

No, I didn't have a fill at surgery, I think that I'm just still swollen and healing and am satisfied w/ just a few oz. Additionally, I wanted to take it slow on the liquified chicken (YES - liquified, one step beyond pureed). I did speak w/ my doc about this, and his words were if it doesn't give me problems its ok - because it's a small amt. and its liquified (beyond pureed)

1 week post-op: how many lbs lost?
Nikaweez replied to LiseSeattle's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was banded on Friday 3/7 so today is my 1 week mark. I had my first post-op doc visit yesterday and had lost 12 lbs! Now I know this is due to consuming clear and full liquids at 4-6 oz at a meal - so I realize that my loss will be reduced as my intake normalizes The other side of the coin: I've lost 12 lbs a hundred times - it just doesn't feel like a real loss. I've failed at losing weight for decades, so it's hard to believe in my success. Humm..and issue to bring to therapy  -
Each and every person has different needs and tolarances. Test things SLOWLY, if it works (goes down w/o pain) and you can tolorate it (dare I say enjoy) than do it. This is the message I get from my Surgeon. If you aren't ready to move on from clear liq. yet, BE SURE that you get some unflavored protien powder to mix into whatever liquids you are taking in. Thankfully I only needed clear liq. for 3 days but on the 3rd day I was so weak I nearly feinted - i knew then that my body was ready for something more significant - so I started drinking skim milk and FF Buttermilk. A day later, I purreed the canned chicken w/ a splash of skim milk and SLOWLY tested it - It WORKED! and let me tell you, the following day was my best day yet. I was peppy, rested, felt stronger and people commented that I was my "old self again". Protein is so important for recovery and physical/mental health.

I too was banded on 3/7/08 in Augusta GA with Dr. Blaney. I have spent so much time researching, reading and practicing for this deal and I'm glad it's finally done. And it's a good thing that I spent so much time researching - otherwise I'd be scared out of my mind and regretting what I had done to myself. I spent the night in the hospital - worst sleep I ever got. It wasn't so much the pain as the pain meds (morphine was kinda tripin' me out) and the nurses giggling in the hall at 2am and the aids coming to check my vitals every hour. I was VERY happy to be home on sat. afternoon. Had a good long nap followed by a fitful night of rest. woke up a couple times but not bad. Sun. was a good day, I was still on clear liquids despite the dr. advice to be on full liquids. Mon was BAD. Lots of gas, port area pain, nausea, diarrhea and a lot of general discomfort. Tues (today) was very good. I got off the pain meds (just Tylenol now) and I was even up for a vet appt. (w/ assistance from my caregiver) and a ride to the grocery store (by myself, looking for some baby food to mix up the soup routine). I'm still experiencing the gas and diarrhea and have just 1 more day of sick time b4 I’m 'supposed' to go back to work. However, if I’m not at least 90% confident that I can go, I’m not going to push myself. Yeah shrinking shamrocks! We rock!!

I was so happy w/ my 400 that i had to quit! Like golf, if you're playing well, you better stop before your screw it up!

I've known for some time that I am considered a "grazer" - many women are. I don't usually eat huge portions at a sitting, but I do feel a "need" to munch every few hours. How has the Lap-Band helped you overcome your grazing habits? What things should I keep in mind to prepare myself for a live w/ Lap-Band and without grazing? Thanks! Nikki

I am pre-op, still in the evaluation stage and have been thinking alot about re-joining a gym. I have a BMI of 40 (so I JUST make it for the requirements). I'm afraid that if I join a gym and loose weight that (if approved) insurance will not help me w/ my procedure. Should I weight till after surgery or should I join now and get back into the swing of things before surgery? Thanks for your opinion/insight! Nikki

laurend, I've had an initial consult, but I know that my insurance documentation will not be submitted until i go thru the psych consult. I think i will take your advice and wait until the results of the psych consult are completed and my proceedure has been approved by insurance. Thank you!
