Good luck Bobbye! I was just banded on the 1/15 and I'm so happy I did it! Hope your wait isn't too long!
-
Do you burp more now that you are banded? (non-productive, just air)
greeneyez replied to dustout's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Hey thank you!! I was beginning to think that this is the way I would be forever! What a relief! -
How often do you weigh?
greeneyez replied to Twilight's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Ok, I am obsessed. I have to move the scales from the bathroom - every time I am in there, I always jump on. Which at the moment with my liquid diet is all the time! I only record my weight each Tues since my band was placed but I just can't help seeing the numbers drop! -
I hit a milestone - 100 pounds gone!

Wow Sue! That's fantastic! What an inspiration you are to me - it means I might get to goal by next Christmas! Thank you so much for posting, you must be on top of the world! -
Do You? You know use that word!

Things are a little different in Australia. I am from Australian/English blood and I NEVER use the N-word! I actually wondered why we needed to ask the question as it would never be said here. In Sydney, we have a very multi-cultural society and I love it - greek, italian, lebanese, eastern european, african, vietnamese, chinese...the list goes on. Yes, we also have native inhabitants of Australia - aborigines. I also NEVER use the A-word! In Australia it kind of went in reverse. In my primary school which was very multi-cultural, I was often called a "Skip", short for skippy the bush kangaroo, an Australian TV show in the 70s. People from foreign countries were often called "wogs". We have the same thing as many other posters, in that "wogs" can call each other the name, but it is not nice for australians to call them that. So, no matter how far we are from the US, we are all the same. I do not use the terms I have mentioned, they are degrading and lose the opportunity to be enriched by these different cultures, they have so much to offer. I don't know where I would be without my sister's lebanese pastries (she is now Muslim) or my mother-in-laws cabbage rolls - well, I do, I AM on LBT! -
CN, I felt pretty good from Day 3-4, now Day 5 and I feel good.

Had Lap Band 2 days Ago
greeneyez replied to cbellaza's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi! Congrats - I am day 5 post op. The bloating is from the carbon dioxide gas they pump into your abdomen during surgery so they have room to move - left over gas after surgery can cause shoulder, neck, back and chest pain but usually always happens. It will dissipate back into your blood over the days after surgery and the bloating will go away. I'd be concerned about spit up and contact your surgeon for some anti-nausea meds - the band can move when this happens and slips. Good luck, Jen -
Being banded 1/25, need list.

Hi Alice! Congratulations on a quick surgery date. I too had very little time to prepare! The things that mattered to me in hospital (I stayed overnight), where 1. Lipbalm - your lips get really dry when you are fasting and it made me feel more human. 2. Some facial moist wipes - it was very refreshing after surgery to wash your face in bed. 3. my little cushion that i held over my tummy when I coughed and for the ride home. 4. Some loose pants to wear home - I was really bloated and my usual pants did not fit. As for being at home and my full liquid diet - Optifast, Soup, bananas for shakes, V8 juice. Some tablets for gas - very important! -
Banded 2 days ago, BLOATED!

Hi Nadean, I don't know what kind of band I have in yet and I believed that no fill was placed during surgery, to allow for the stomach to heal around the band, but I may be wrong. Will fill you in after my follow up appointment next week. Jen -
Hi all, I'm a newbie here, but thought it might be nice to meet some others from Sydney. I'm being banded on 15th Jan at Holroyd Private. I'd like to organise something central for anyone who is interested. We could organise regular outings, if anyone wants that. Just pm or reply if you would like to meet some others. Jen:scared:

I've also made a group on facebook called Sydney LapBand. Sydband is quiet!

I'm wondering how they can call no chicken chicken broth? Wouldn't it just be "broth"? Hee hee I"m a little tired of my liquid diet, going to make a banana smoothie for dinner! I've been feeling a little light-headed.
-
I didn't have the shoulder pain, just a feeling of having a rock in my chest. Walking definitely helped, not far, but a little way every half hour. My pain killers made me feel worse, so I stopped taking them. I don't remember much of recovery. I do remember talking about my nursing colleagues to the staff - they knew some people I worked with. I also remember being asked to sit up in bed so they could take the theatre sheet out - that hurt and then they gave me some pethidine - next thing I woke up in my room with my husband looking at me.
-
Hey CN. THanks, I'm feeling better. First 2 days were really hard and I wondered what I had done to myself. I have started to use the bio oil on my old stretchmarks and places I think I may have excess skin later on - hoping that it will make it more elastic - I can always dream! Jen

Hey Chrystal, I'm on Day 4 of my 14 day liquid diet and I totally sympathise! I watched TV yesterday and everything seemed to be a cooking show! I'm living on Optifast, V8 juice, UpnGo (weetbix made into a drink - sickly sweet, but more filling) and Soup. I'm totally over it and can't wait to eat some mashed potato, banana or other pureed foods. Keep your chin up it will be worth it. Jen

Hi Kellie, I live in Sydney. PM me with whatever questions you have and I will try to help. Jen
-
Kellie, are you in Oz? I think you are referring to the recent story about medicare paying for teen operations. Just read heaps on the boards. Where do you live?

I spoke too soon. I just had a nap and woke up with my stomach making some fantastic noises and now I have the runs. I presume it is from just having liquids, but boy is it uncomfortable! Bren, I"m also proud that we are on the lighter side. Trying to learn how to burp again! I started patting my chest, but no relief yet!
-
OMG, I'm glad I found this post here. Well, I'm 4 days out and hadn't "gone", well I just had a nap as I was so weak today and when I woke up, "BANG". I don't know which is worse! Glad everything is starting to work, but really!!

I used to love Tom Cruise, now he just sounds like a tool. He's totally ruined my impression of him and it will never be the same again! Might have to watch Cocktail to make sure - maybe I can make the real Tom and the movie Tom 2 separate people!
-
Hi Bren, My time was worse than i expected, but also better. I'm great now, but the first 2 days were hell. THe gas pain and bloating were the worst. The wierd thing is, I can't burp! Plus, I can feel the tablets going down! Jen

Congrats Laurinda! I'm Day 4 post op and feeling ok. Was starving this morning when I woke up, but 3 sips of Optifast and I was full! I just feel a little light-headed, but can't get through all my fluids. I'm also ready to face my demons, Jen
