suzannety started following Salad?, Nightime Cough/Must Sit Up, Moving to Waco Area and and 7 others
-
My husband was banded a couple of years ago. We moved over four hours away from his doctor so he hasn't been going in to get regular fills, but is doing okay. He has started coughing at night. The only way to stop it is to sit up in the recliner for a few minutes/hours. When it first started a few months back he just wouldn't eat after 8pm and that kept it at bay, but lately nothing will. He recently had pleurisy so he was coughing badly with that. They gave him cough medicine with codeine but sometimes even that wouldn't stop it. The pleurisy is now gone, but the coughing continues even when he doesn't eat after 8pm. He SWEARS it is his band. Anyone else having this problem. Yes, I know he should go back to his lap band doc, but his schedule just doesn't allow for it right now.

My husband and I were banded over a year ago. About a month ago, he started coughing really hard in the night. He said it feels like stuff is creeping back up into his throat in the night and making him cough, sometimes he coughts up food. He tried eating/drinking nothing for several hours before bed but it didn't help. He used Maalox and it worked for a couple of weeks, but it has started again. They only way he gets relief is to sit up in the chair. The man has spent the last three nights sitting in a chair trying to get a decent night's sleep. Any ideas?

I had my surgery done by JourneyLite in Houston. My hubby and I both did and we are self-pay so our fills are free. We have since moved to the Waco area. Anyone know any doctors here who will do a fill? I hate to travel 3 1/2 hours for a fill, but it would be free. I'm hoping to find someone in the Waco, Ft. Worth area who will do a fill for us at a reasonable price.

Loss of Restriction
suzannety replied to suzannety's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It's crazy, I truly have less restriction than I did after my third fill and technically, I have more fluid in there. Funny, I have put on about 2.5 lbs in the last three weeks b/c of the lesser restrictions and I feel like I have put it all back on. I'm beating myself up, but sadly, it doesn't stop me from eating. Tomorrow is a new day. My hubby bought me the Wii today and then went to 5 different stores looking for the Fit software, bless his heart. Maybe if I can increase the exercise, I'll get over this hump. -
After my 4th fill I was at 7.1cc and waaay too tight. I threw up everything I ate. They had to take out .5, after they took it out, I felt like I had NO restriction. My dr. said it was due to the swelling as well as having some removed. After three weeks, they added back .25, but I still feel like there is no restriciton. The x-ray showed it easily flowing through. They girl who did the fill said that every three weeks I can come back for just tiny fills, to get it to where I need it. I am so frustrated. I haven't lost in almost a month and I still have very little restriciton. It is so hard since I still have the fat mentality. Humphhhhhh:(

What DON'T they tell you?
suzannety replied to TxShtKicker's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I breezed along for the first few months. I ate much less, but could eat about anything. Then I had my third fill. I couldn't eat anything without throwing up. I threw up everyday. Still do it alot, but making a conscious effort not to. I have to make a committment EVERYDAY to do what is right by my band (which makes it right by me). I think I was dehydrated constantly, so now I sip water just like they told me to do. I had lunch with a friend yesterday and was able to eat 1 1/2 fried mushroom. Eating out is a total waste for me. My husband was banded in April and he, my one year old and I split a lunch portion the otherday. We still left 1/2 on the plate. I haven't lost the "fat" mentality. I want food, I love food, I crave food. But, it is just easier not to eat it than feel crappy and/or throw it up. You have to renew your committment everyday. Ice cream goes down great, but you aren't doing yourself any good. I did, however, have ice cream last night. But instead of a pint, I had a couple of spoonfulls. It was heaven!!!!!! I think I am finally on the right track. I just hope I haven't damaged my band with all of the throwing up I did over the last six weeks. I guess time will tell. -
I threw Up!! *sigh*

Forget the PB, I throw-up. Since third fill in April, I throw up almost everyday. I have to make a conscious effort to not throw up. I know it puts my band at risk. Yesterday I made the committment to not throw-up. I went out to eat with a friend and was able to eat 1 1/2 fried mushroom before I was stuffed. I am just now realizing (6 weeks later) how little I can actually eat. It is amazing. For lunch, I had 1/4 of an avacado. Done. Actually, I should have had 1/8! Getting over the fat mentality is sooooo hard. I think I'm starting to adjust. I am down 50 lbs, so I must be doing something right. -
Now that I have lost 50 lbs, I went tubing over the July 4th holiday. I took one nasty spill which hurt badly. Since then, my left (port) side has hurt badly. Two nights ago I just happened to rub my belly since it hurt and found a very hard spot. It was quite tender to touch. Here's my question: Could it be my port? If so, SOMETHING HAS MOVED! My port used to be below my scar and now, if this is my port, it is above my scar. I called my doc today and can't be seen until the 22nd. My friend had the thought that since I have lost the weight, my skin may be sagging (not noticably) and that my port is in the same spot, but my scar has moved and everything is just sore from my spill. I know I sound like an idiot, but any ideas?

I had my surgery three months ago and I remember the gas was bad, but I was able to pass it. My DH has surgery yesterday (Thurs) and he is in terrible pain from gas and unable to pass any, none. He uses the breath thing for deep breaths, GasX and we walked a bunch today trying to get relief, nothing works. Any ideas?

Okay, lucky me...I had my first PB today. Luckily for me I was alone in the car. It was well deserved though. I got a kid's meal from BK, took the meat patty off the bun and ate half of it. Good girl! Wait...the onion rings. First one went down okay, second one too, third one...not so good. But, I keep going like the trooper I am and soon they are all gone in a matter of a couple of minutes. Granted, it was a kids meal so there weren't many, but I thought I was going to die!!!! I sat in the Kohl's parking lot making up my last will and testiment in my head while I SLOWLY DIED in my car!!!! When the PB happened, I was happy. I was even happier with the second and a little put off by the third, but at least I assumed I would live. Well, that was about 6 hours ago and I hurt! Really, I hurt. Is this normal? If so, it works because even after 6 hours the thought of putting food in my mouth sickens me.

Painful burping & hiccups - does that go away?
suzannety replied to MamaJava's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
It will go away. About day 5 I felt human again. I still have gas issues, but I think it's more associated with my cpap machine. One thing, I kept hearing the stories of how great everyone felt just a day or two later. I didn't. Like I said, day 5 I fet much better, but not great. After about two weeks, I felt normal again. I do have a 16 month old, so I started picking him up sooner than I should have, and my port takes a beating, but recovery was not a piece of cake....sorry, no cake:) -
Parrot, when were you banded? I totally understand about the carrots and such. We are meeting some clients at Olive Garden for lunch so I want soup and salad. Actually, I want the alfredo, but I will have will power. I just really want salad!!!!!! Geez, I never though I would say that:)

I'll be three weeks out on Thursday and in mushy stage and doing great. I haven't had a problem with anything, but haven't tested the waters. I am dying for a salad! I forgot to ask my doc last week about it. Anyone eat salad on mushy or is it cooked veggies only?
