At the age of 37 I suffered my first health scare. I suffered an aortic aneurysm on September 13 2013 and underwent an aortic dissection. I bounced back and was able to get my hypertension under control with the help of my doctors. However, my weight still continued to be an issue. I was limited to walking as a form of exercise and it was difficult to lose weight that way. I spoke to my cardiologist and inquired about gastric bypass as an option. To my surprise she highly recommended having the procedure and put me in touch with a surgeon. After a year of tests, seminars, and consultations my insurance agreed to pay for the procedure. I had the gastric sleeve done on May 20, 2015. Recovery has been difficult but nothing compared to what I went through with the aortic dissection. It's still too early to tell you how it ends but so far so good. Before my dissection I weighed 335lbs. When I was released from the hospital three weeks later I weighed 292lbs. I then went up to 324lbs and a week after gastric sleeve surgery I weigh 304lbs. I just want to live a happy healthy life and I'm going to do whatever it takes to accomplish just that.
