My surgeons office told me not to loose any weight
juno5 replied to Chylyn7's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was told to loose wgt if I can. Totally optional. According to my surgeon I'm already accepted into the program and if I loose now it is just a plus for me.. But not required. -
December 2015 or January 2016 sleevers ?
juno5 replied to neequa25's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hoping for January if all goes as planned with no hiccups! I have my 2nd NUT appt tomorrow. 4 left after that. I feel like it is forever away but I know these next few months gives me the time to learn and relearn. As well as save $$ so I can afford the time off work after surgery to heal. I feel like this is as exciting as having another pregnancy....time to wait....excitement....time off work...lol. (I'm an RN and have 5 Kids. Anytime off work for any reason is awesome to me!) -
Bloating w/Protein powder & pre-made shakes
juno5 replied to ladyfrann's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I know that xyletol can be a very affective laxative for some people...could that be something in your shakes causing your bloat? -
Sometimes I get so mad when people can sit there telling me that the way to lose weight is to exercise and eat healthy. Do they not think I've done that?! Have they ever been in my shoes?? Just another reason why I don't want to tell people at work I am having surgery...

Peg from Minnesota- I am north near Duluth Mn. Love it here love the lake!

The worse part of this is that I am a RN and these were other RNs saying this about it all. Secondly. How am I suppose to keep it to myself when the hospital I work at is the hospital I'm getting my surgery at? I know we have hippa laws..but I still worry about being talked about behind my back. This sounds so juvenile when I I read it ..but it is how I feel.

Tonight at my seminar we were told they want women on 2 types of birth control...ok. So I tried the merina which made me go insane and depressed ..and gain even more wgt! I gave it a full year and then had it removed this past March. I don't do well with hormones...so any suggestions? I don't want anything implanted in me ever again like the IUD.

When I first met my husband he thought we should try a diet together. He said all we eat for 1 week is Apple's. WOW. Yup...we weren't living together at the time. I totally cheated. But I did learn there are many many different types of Apple's and they all taste differently.

Anyone in Northern Minnesota? Duluth area?
juno5 replied to JaimeReid's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I havent had mine done yet. I am going to a seminar this month. I feel like this is going to take forever! I've called my ins several times already and I know I have to do the 6 months of supervised diet first. It is all I think about lately. I just want it done! -

I'm in northern MN! How did your surgery go? Where did you go? Who did you go to? -
I am just wondering how long everyone took off from work. I am an RN and so I am on my feet the entire time basically. Heavy lifting. I work 12 hour shifts. So I'm trying to gage how long to expect to need off. Thank you!

Thank you everyone for your input!

Anyone out there have to use fmla after surgery in Mexico? Did you have your pcp in the states sign your paperwork? What did you do?

Super Nurses With Sleeves (Support Group)
juno5 replied to Need-a-Sleeve's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hello! I work in critical care float...which is basically critical care and everywhere else....I am currently in the beginning of the entire process. I just spoke with my new pcp and he is very supportive of my decision to go forward with wls, as is my husband. I work full time and have kids at home. How much time did everyone here take off post surgery? Did you have trouble with your postop diet at work? Oh...and I'm from Minnesota. -

My ins does cover wls. However if I am not approved I will most likely be taking a trip to Mexico with my husband....I'm on edge waiting to see if I'm even going to be approved. I'm in the very beginning of the entire process

Making the decision. Band or Sleeve
juno5 replied to Tirnanog's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Do your research. I was considering the band until I started to research more. I found out that my hospital is no longer even doing the lap band due to high failure rates. Seems like this is the going trend. I also talked to a few people I knew who had been banded. Both have had revisions and removed the band going with bypass instead. I'm glad I've done my research. I still am. Right now I'm in limbo waiting to go to my hospitals seminar. Lots of time to research.... -
Choosing surgeons and ins requirements
juno5 posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I just started taking the first steps in this journey to a new me. I have some roadblocks already. 1) The surgeon at the hospital that I work at is leaving in September. The surgeon who is replacing him has been working alongside the current surgeon doing bariatric surgeries. He has experience as a surgeon but the wls are a bit newer to him. He hasn't been performing on his own yet. If I go to the hospital I work with (and my ins approved me for wls) then I have better ins coverage. Or...I can go to the surgeon at a neighboring hospital and still be covered but not as much. More experienced there too....what should I do??! 2) my ins requires a 2 year history of documented weights/BMI. I've never been one to go to a pcp...I don't even have one. I do have a long standing history with my obgyn...(i've had 5 kids.) My last appt was in March to have my iud removed due to my concerns with the wgt gain and mood swings I had from it....prior to that was almost 2 years ago when I gave birth to baby #5. That's it. That would be all I have for medical history. How do I know of my ins will accept this? Or are they just going to say I have "baby wgt" and need to eat better and exercise? In so stressed about this. I have an appt with the hospital down the road who will cost more and ins doesn't cover as well with them...but I also am registered for the seminar at my hospital that provides my ins at the end of June... Any advice or knowledge about the 2 year recorded weights? Or about choosing the right hospital? I did make an appt to start seeing a pcp. They got me in for June 1st. I want this surgery so bad. I'm 31 and I feel like I'm 60. My feet hurt like someone is crushing them all the time. I'm tired. Its depressing. I want to be able to run around with my kids and not have to tell them "later" all the time. My mom had bypass surgery 13 years ago. Obesity is very prevalent in my family as is DM2 and heart disease. I'm not on a good track right now...I need this tool to help me get where I want to be. -
Choosing surgeons and ins requirements
juno5 replied to juno5's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have made the decision to stick with my hospital that I work at because IF I am approved my ins will cover 100% after deductible. I know the surgeon...he is just newer to bariatric surgeries than the hospital down the street. If I'm not approved I will reapply of whatever it is called. I will do that twice. After that....I will look into going to Mexico. I've started researching that option. I'm too impatient...my husband says to wait and see after we go to the first seminar. Which is all the way at the end of June! Have to learn to be patient....thank you @cbradshawe10 -
@@shrinkingPeach thank you! This helps!

Could someone please give me a mini lesson on insurance lingo. Like max out of pocket. Deductable. Etc.

I have my first appt June 15th. I can't wait! This is all I think about. I have bought 2 books. Read 1 which is how I found this group and now starting another. But my question is what should I expect at my appt? I was told 1 hour with the RN and 1 hour with the nutritionist. I'm a bundle of nerves here. I'm sure my husband and my parents (who are very supportive) are going to become annoyed with me soon. Also, anything I should be asking my ins about? I know it is covered. I know my surgeon is in my network. Anything else to ask? How do I find out the total cost of everything? I'm almost as nervous/excited about this possibility of a new hope as much as I was when I had my first child!

I will make sure to ask about that specific thing! Thank you Miss Mac. ????
