I love the elliptical idea. I am currently choosing one to add to the treadmill. I do think switching it up will help a lot. I like to walk just because I like it though. I think it will all come together. I already feel way better than the first week out.

Yes, I researched a lot prior to surgery. There is a difference between reading how it works and the reality of it though. My husband is a doctor and he did extensive consideration as well. He has advised me daily and I believe I've done excellent through the process, but was looking for the experience of actual patients and adding calories. It's one thing for docs to give you ideals. It's another to only tolerate what you can each day. Personally, I am choosing to increase calories so I can increase exercise. I don't think that is unreasonable or points to misinformation or lack of research. It's a process. I want to make my process better each day. I am not trying to walk eight miles a day. I said this only as history. I do get how it works. Yes, I want to be in ketosis but do not want to be under 700 calories. Was looking for ideas here for adding calories only. I think others have helped and I did get more calories yesterday and exercised today and now working on more calories today.

I am not walking 8 miles a day. I was prior to surgery. I shared that as a point of reference. Yes, right now it is the heat playing a huge role. I did get a treadmill and will be using that. I don't expect to return to higher miles until fall when it cools down and I am able to better work with my pouch as well as having time to heal. For now I just want to be able to exercise even a mile or two without feeling sick and super weak. Hope this helps to clarify. You are exactly right about the heat. I may be projecting all the changes to the sleeve without generally realizing I would realistically not be super comfortable walking outside apart from very early or very late now anyways.

Wow! Awesome, Nomoband! I am going to speak about this extensively with my husband tomorrow as he's a pro in these matters. Your post totally addresses my concerns. I am going to ask about this. I understand everyone has different approaches and many worry about "sliding" and such, but I do believe we each have to use our "tool" in the way it best serves our long term goals and daily needs. I actually had more calories today. I think just vocalizing it helped. I write everything down. I added half a Protein bar and maybe half a cup of Soup. Big difference. What you are saying makes sense because I think I managed to soup as it had broth with the veggies and tiny bit of meat. I don't think I could have finished it otherwise.

Yes. It has to be as safe and healthy as possible or it defeats the purpose of all our efforts.

To clarify my standard day is two protein shakes and a yogurt. After that it's what I can tolerate. I get around 70 of protein a day. Sometimes more.
-
I generally make my Protein and Water. The calories are low though. For example, two Protein Drinks is 60 of protein but only puts me at 240 or so calories. Water between those. Then I try to eat what I can after making protein. They have given me guidelines, yes ... and tell me with time it will happen and I'm not expected to make it all this early, etc. I just thought maybe others would have some real experience and advice. I am going to try the things along here and I think I'm just going to dive into the exercise and hope the appetite will follow. I get they are most concerned with protein, but I definitely want more calories to feel better overall. Gonna try more real food a little at a time. Maybe this will help, also.

I currently need to lose an additional 70 pounds. No rush to lose it. Mostly want to feel right. Forgot to mention a major part of this - I had to have the surgery as I have had numerous abdominal surgeries which has led to two frighten lay large hernias. I needed to drop weight prior to having them repaired as they will need extensive work with scar removal, mesh, etc. That's another reason why the push for the sleeve to hurry it along as it was becoming an emergency. Currently they are holding up well and even better with the initial weight loss. Beginning weight was 255. Now at 215.

Yes, I was losing weight rapidly before surgery. I considered continuing just exercise but I was at a point where I could not afford to leave room for failure. I honestly thought I would get the sleeve and try to work my calories up to past 1000 and start building up exercise again slowly. I read a ton and still misjudged how little I might eat. The problem is (I think) prior to surgery it would not be a big deal to go long times without eating. I am now having to relearn forcing myself to sit and eat throughout the day. I love exercise... Always have. My weight gain was after losing a child, and then a mom and sister over a span of about five years. The worst was while my mom and sis had cancer across the country and I spent those years traveling back and forth several times a month with a baby and then toddler. I ate horrible, ate from stress, and dropped off on exercise. Following all that I returned to exercise for sanity but also realized I had now been overweight for years. I am an active person and fortunately remained "fit" while being heavy in that I could still take on activities easily. As it stands now I do have energy but just enough for playing with my son outside, work, housework, etc. I feel weak sometimes during the day and I guess I am mostly worried if I head out to exercise I don't want to crash. I am going to try the suggestions along here. I don't want to just lose weight, but want to stay fit. I have the base from before and I love and miss my long walks, so I guess I will have to slowly work back up to them. BTW, I was sleeved July 4 and I am down 40 pounds. I just want to make sure I am losing it in a strong way and not just by deficiency. Hope this clarifies where I am at.

The issue is I would like to exercise and I am having a hard time managing calories to sustain this. I am not trying to do eight miles a day this early on. I would like to be able to walk a mile or two without worrying I will faint. I think I am going to try to take a shake with me and drink it as I go. Doc says try to eat more frequently and of course more calories. I got a treadmill and I think that will help since I won't be out in the heat and I can just walk in smaller blocks of time instead of one long walk. I just love being outdoors and I think it's zapping me right now. Hopefully this will change soon.

Hi, I am very concerned about exercising as I am now far enough out to be working out regularly. Prior to surgery I was walking 8 miles a day and felt I could do more but stopped at the 8 due to time constraints, life, etc. I was sleeved July 4th and I just can't seem to get enough calories to facilitate regular exercise. Add to that the heat and Water needs. Any suggestions? Did anyone have this problem and find a way around it? I am currently between 300-600 calories with the low end being on days I focus on water. I want to eat enough for exercise but right now I don't have enough calories to even sustain a normal day sans exercise. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Statistically, the lower your bmi prior to surgery, the more "successfully" you will maintain your weight loss. I am a week and a couple days out and I think to gain back it would take serious effort because it is not easy to eat a lot. People with higher bmis may be dealing with more food issues and they are counted in the whole count of success rates. Don't forget that. You will be fine. Stick to protein first and keep aware you don't want to regain. Use the time before surgery to process the level you are going for this and cling to this so you don't forget later. That's my unprofessional approach, for what it's worth.

When does the tiredness end?
lorilove replied to DojiGirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am exactly a week out and I don't feel tired all day, but once or twice a day I feel a crash coming on. I have stayed busy and when I get that feeling I just take a sip of grape or apple juice and it puts me back in the groove. i think when your body kicks over to ketosis your energy gets better. I had a few days of eating nothing at all and I think that moved the process along faster for me. -
What size is your sleeve?
lorilove replied to Jennifer Rogers's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Mine was a 32f. I had my surgery July 4th (one week tomorrow) and I've lost near 20 pounds (30 counting the one week Preop diet) and I can actually drink a lot more fluids than I thought. Mine was also oversewn. I know some people say it doesn't make a difference but to me it did. I paid out of pocket though I have insurance and bougie size played a part in my decision to self pay. I wanted the most restriction even if only as a placebo. I guess I will know more in a month or so. For me, it was either the smallest possible sleeve or go with bypass. Started at 255 before Preop diet.
