My wedding ring is getting very loose on my hand. I have to wash my hands several times a day due to my job & I'm constantly scared I'm going to lose it. I can get a chain & put it on that but I know I'll miss a ring on my finger. Part of me would love to get a new ring as a sign of a true physical new beginning. However, I'm really torn & part of me would like to get my current ring resized. So, I'm curious. If you lost enough weight that your wedding ring didn't fit anymore did you get it resized or get a new one? Thanks!

The one S. of Dallas is our 'home faire' although we do try & hit the one in Houston at least once.

Dr said eat anything I want! What??
cowgrrl replied to karebare714's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
My dr has said very similar things. He does want me to eat healthy & make sure I'm getting enough protein & all that but he says 'If you want a hamburger, have one'. The deal is, I use to get the big burger with a wad of fries & eat the whole thing. Now, I get a jr burger with less fries or a side salad, pull the bread off as I eat it & usually don't finish. So, I'm still eating what I want, just less of it. -
Who can still eat whatever they want?
cowgrrl replied to Shasta92582's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I had my 3rd fill this week & after the 2nd & definitely after this one I can feel a difference. I can still eat bread but its a toss-up as to whether or not I can get it down so usually I pass. Soda is definitely out. My Dr says that diet is OK if its poured over ice but I tried it & the gas upset my stomach so I've decided its not worth it. -
Anyone have a good recipe for whole wheat pizza crust? I'd like to try my hand at making pizza since the regular stuff is so bad for me. All recipes appreciated!

My DH & I are 'rennies'. We love Renaissance Faires & all they entail. One of my 'treats' once I hit my goal weight is to buy a Ren Faire costume. However, most of these costumes include a bodice a/o a corset. Has anyone tried to wear a tight-fitting bodice or corset post-surgery & did it turn out OK? I don't want to end up damaging anything.

If you have Fit TV they have some great All-Star Workouts you can record. I like the dance ones but they also have yoga & more cardio ones. I'm tempted to buy a few striptease or burlesque DVDs just to mix it up a bit. I tend to have a very short attention span, exercise-wise so I need variety.

Anyone else having trouble getting low enough with the rowing squats? I've tried to do them twice but for me to get my center of gravity that low my butt would practically be on the board. I'm a bit tall for a chick (5' 8") so I don't know if that's the problem or not. My kids do great on it but I cannot get that low.
-
You don't jump on the board. It specifically tells you not to jump. You don't really stomp either. Just stepping on & off. You can jog (not on the board but with the remote in your hand) but I never do the jogging & still feel that I get a good workout.

I have discovered the flavored tunas & I eat those a lot with a salad. My kids love them as well so if I'm not careful they're gone in no time!

how long for lapband to become reality....
cowgrrl replied to iwalktheline's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Approximately 6 months but I could have had it sooner if I wasn't a preschool teacher & needed to be able to lift. I had been thinking about it for about 2 years. A brief timeline: -January: Decided to try & apply & see if I could be approved. I knew from reading lap band talk that it could take 6 months & I wanted to have it done in the summer. -February: Approved with no delay. Call to schedule but they aren't scheduling as far out as I need. -April: Call back & get scheduled for 1st week in June -End of May: Go in for pre-op appointment -1st week of June: Surgery Somewhere in there I did go to a seminar but I don't remember when. I'll have my first fill in late August. -
I will be the first to admit that I was an idiot & I did push it more than I ever should have. Hopefully someone can learn from my stupidity! The scene: A Renaissance Festival The food: A sandwich with sausage & peppers What happened: I had not really had trouble with bread before, although I had been careful & thought that this would be OK as well. Apparently I took too big of a bite & OMG the pain!!! I took 2 very small sips of Water hoping that would help but it did nothing. I didn't want to slime in public or in front of my kids so I told them to tell DH I'd gone to the bathroom & I made a beeline for the 'privies'. I hit the handicapped stall & started massaging my breastbone & pacing. Thankfully, in a minute or two, it seemed to 'plop' into my stomach. I have now sworn off bread unless its a multigrain (per drs suggestion) & I'm working hard to remember to take very small bites.

I was getting ready to post the exact same question. I don't like eggs either so breakfast can be a challenge. I have found applesauce with a bit of ground flaxseed mixed in to be good or some cream cheese on a piece of wasa cracker. Occasionally I'll do Slimfast but I tend to save that for trips when I can't take all my 'go-to' foods with me. My dr also recommended drinking something warm in the morning (even warm tap water). I haven't had a problem with constriction or PBs but I haven't had a fill yet so that's probably going to change.

Majesco And Interactive Game Group Announce ‘Jillian Michaels’ Fitness Ultimatum 2009’ - Wii News Jillian Michaels, trainer on 'The Biggest Loser' is working on a Wiifit game. Its suppose to be more challenging than the games that come with the WiiFit board. I will definitely buy it if it comes out.

First weekend eating out after being banded....HELP!
cowgrrl posted a topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I was banded June 3rd & this weekend we're going to visit family & take in a ren faire. I'm a little nervous about finding stuff to eat because we'll be eating everywhere from the faire to fast food. I will be on solid food by then which does help but at home I have my 'safe' foods & my schedule. Any tips or help is appreciated. I really want this weekend to go well. -
I think I've just discovered my first non-scale victory (banded June 3). My wedding ring feels a bit loose. Not fall off my finger loose, just not tight, like normal. DH has agreed I can get a puzzle ring if my wedding ring gets too big so maybe I'll be getting a new ring next year!

Lap Band Video- Not for the faint at heart...
cowgrrl replied to Yvonne72's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I couldn't even get through the one in the drs office. Thankfully the dr took pity on me & didn't make me watch the whole thing. I don't need to see it to know how they do it. -
When do you stop drinking when you eat?
cowgrrl posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I know for the liquid phase everything is liquid so it doesnt' matter. However, are you suppose to do the no drinking with meals when you start the mushy stage? Thanks! -
I'm going to take a slightly different route because my bathroom scale & the drs scale seem to be more than a few pounds apart. So, my goal is to be able to wear the XL work shirt that was ordered for me to wear in the fall. I start back the day after Labor Day so its perfect.

I told all my coworkers (supportive all-female environment) & immediate family members & finally told my pastor about a week before. I did not tell the parents of my students because I felt that was too much information & I like privacy. FWIW, one of the hardest people I had to tell was my DD. Being a young female in todays society is hard & I didn't want her to think this was something she needed to do as well. She's had a little problem but it seems to be working out.

Things I won't/don't miss about being Obese
cowgrrl replied to MissWilde's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I will not miss: -being limited to neon colors like lime green & orange for bellydance attire because apparently that's what I'm suppose to look good in as a fat chick (actually I need jewel tones) -Not being able to attend a home clothing party because they only go up to XL. -
Fit-TVs All-Star Workouts include bellydance, ballet & hip hop dance. There's also 'Shimmy' which is a bellydance workout.

Two days Post-op (semi miserable)
cowgrrl replied to YoungNy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was banded on the 3rd as well. That first day was very rough but it does seem to be getting better. I still have some soreness around the largest incision but keeping an ice pack on it seems to help. I was also very nauseated that first day & threw up twice. Now it seems to be better but I can't wait until Sunday when I can go on mushies. I think I'm going to add a small amount of exercise today. We have a Wiifit so I'm thinking 1 or 2 rounds of the basic step game would be good. I don't want to do anything that requires bending or stretching at this point. eyespy: I was told to take a shower the day after my surgery & to remove the large band-aids but leave the steri-strips in place. -
I was banded on Tuesday & I've noticed something & wondering if it was normal. Every once in awhile I'll bend over at the waist to pick something up & it feels like the band is brushing against one of my ribs. I did have some throwing up the day of surgery but I tried to 'hold' my chest to keep anything from moving. So, is this normal right after surgery to feel the band a bit or should I get in to see my dr? I'm not having trouble keeping liquids down today & I'm actually feeling better.

Thanks for the feedback. That makes me feel better. It is right about where the largest incision is so I guess its my port.
