Awww Brandon stay strong and positive. I haven't had my surgery just yet; however, I'm certain you've made the BEST decision of your life. I've sooooo many posts where people have been in your shoes around the same time. It gets better. Sorry I can't speak from experience, but keep reading. Read the success stories and the before and after pics; great motivation. Just stay strong and positive Brandon, you'll be fine in a few short days. Keep waking and keep sipping. ???? -
Hey I'm having bypass on October 12th as well! I completely agree with, I'm ready for my start over, my next chapter. I'm ready for a new healthier, happier and thinner me! I've completed my seminar, webinar, initial surgeon appt, EGD, 2 of 3 NUT appts. I'm now having bypass, I was switched from the sleeve. My last appt is September 30th, then my paperwork is submitted. Please pray for my approval. I'm in the northern VA area. I'm 5', HW: 246, lost 5 lbs, I believe my bmi is 47. I don't have to lose weight before surgery, just maintain, but that makes me so nervous because you can't gain any weight. I have no comorbidities which is even more why I'm having the surgery because it's just a matter of time. Me in a nutshell, I'd love to buddy up as we're going through this party of the journey at the same time.

Going to My Bypass Seminar.. what do i have look forward to?
thbrown223 replied to viaasskick's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes it definitely varies from person to person and like dhrguru says it depends on your insurance. I attended my seminar in May. I received great information, most of you've probably already researched. My surgeon didn't go in to details regarding the complications. However, I reviewed a 2 hr webinar. He prefers that method because you can bring your questions to your initial appt. My insurance requires a supervise my diet by a nutritionist for 3 months, psych eval, EGD, and all your blood work and labs to be completed. I have one more NUT appt I'll need to complete my labs 2 weeks prior to surgery. My paperwork will be submitted for approval. Then a waiting period. According to my surgeron I don't have to lose weight, just maintain. I have a 3 day liquid diet, not 2 weeks according to most of the other posts I've read. -

Changing Taste delays
thbrown223 replied to SPettijo's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I haven't had my RNY surgery just yet. However, I've read several posts where others post-op persons have similar experiences as you. Many say they have a metal taste in their mouth. It's difficult to drink water because it now taste like metal. Many have or had difficult drinking their protein shakes post op vs pre op it was no problem. They also mentioned having difficulties with the texture as well. So you're definitely not alone. -
I'm sorry you feel this way. I've found this app to be helpful and supportive. I haven't had the surgery yet, not until October. However, my first thought was, are you chewing your food enough? Also is your meat extremely moist? If you say yes to both questions, have you thought about trying deli meat? I've been reading many posts about how deli meat goes down really well. Oh, great job on giving up on those other foods, I'm sure that was really difficult. I like to have something sweet after dinner. I've been researching several options, healthier options. Also speak with your doctor or NUT again, maybe there's some info that could be shared with you. Good luck on your continuous journey!

This website is heaven! Thank you so very much for sharing this website. The recipes are amazing! I'd have to tweak quite a few due to my many allergies, but she has fabulous ideas. I thought I was so limited on what I could eat. I can't thank you enough. -

Of course, I can. I can give you my email address. -
Oh wow! Sounds like you're doing great. The greek yogurt sounds good. I'll think I'll try that. Any Protein Shakes you really? I'm trying a few different ones to see what I can buy closer to surgery.

My first MD appt after seminar...what to expect?
thbrown223 replied to Anxious2beme's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My NUT recommended Water, crystal light, or any non-carbonated, sugar free beverages. Nothing high in calories. Oh that's great, I really enjoyed my seminar. I attended the seminar and then I had 2 hour webinar. My surgeon said it was best to complications in the webinar. You can view it, write your questions and then come to your first appt with questions. No, I didn't receive any dieting information since I didn't have to lose weight prior to surgery, just can't gain weight, which is so stressful. Basically my NUT has been teaching me how to eat and drink after my bypass. I've been trying to implement these things early so it's easier after the surgery is complete. - we started with no drinking while eating, 30mins after eating, I'm now working on not drinking 15mins before eating -now I'm working on taking smaller bites, that seems to be the hardest for me so far. My NUT advised to ball up a small post it note really tight. Keep it in front of me while I'm eating as a reminder. Our bite size should be the size of a chick pea. ???? which should be chewed 25-30 times. I'm working on it. I'm also trying different Protein shakes so I'll know what to buy closer to surgery, but I won't buy in bulk as our taste buds may change. Sorry for the long post, just wanted to share what I received. I have the post op "meal plan", I can email it to you? -
My first MD appt after seminar...what to expect?
thbrown223 replied to Anxious2beme's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I received my date from NUT during our last appointment. When I had my initial appt with the surgeon, it mainly discussed the different procedures and my choice, which was the sleeve. At that appointment, he stated I was a good candidate for WLS. I'm now in my don't gain weight stage, I don't have to lose just maintain. I don't see my NUT until 9/30. According to my last visit 7/10 I'm down 5 lbs so far. Will you have had your 3 NUT appts by September? How he is able to move the date up? -

My first MD appt after seminar...what to expect?
thbrown223 replied to Anxious2beme's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I completely understand. I'm in the same boat. I'm so excited for this journey, it's odd to me because everything is happening so smoothly. The only small hiccup that I had was my surgeon strongly suggested that I have the bypass and not the sleeve after he observed my results from my endoscopy. I have to terrible reflux, who knew? My surgeon said there's a very small percentage of people who have it, but have no real symptoms, well nothing making me uncomfortable or pain, just a lot of burping. So now I'm on the bypass track, which is completely fine with me. I've completed my first appointment, endoscopy, 2 of 3 dietician appts, psych evaluation, I'll be attending a support group next Monday. I just have to make sure there's no weight gain. I didn't have to lose weight before the surgery. I do have a 3 day liquid diet. I'm 5', 243 lbs, with a bmi 47. I'm excited too! I just excited to start seeing results! Oh! My surgery date is October 12th. If there are any other October dates, I'd love to buddy up. ???? Good luck to everyone!
