    Just approved and scared

I was 200 pounds at time of surgery (5'6" and 33 BMI). I also had PCOS but had both my ovaries removed. I lost almost 60 pounds in 7 months, but I never lost my hair because I only averaged losing 10 pounds per month and I ALWAYS got in at least 65 grams of Protein per day. I drank a lot of my protein by sipping protein lemonade and fruit punches. I also use liquid Vitamins containing Biotin. I have absolutely no regrets for having the sleeve done. I'm almost 8 months out now and can eat almost everything, just really small amounts. I have to be really careful with sweets, because they don't fill me up at all. I'm a big believer that if I restrict myself too much, I won't be able to maintain a healthy attitude and will sugar binge. The best part of being a low BMI starter is we can start exercising full throttle right away. Good luck!

    Monster energy drinks!

    Full of acid! Stay away.
  4. I'm taller and just a few pounds heavier at time of sleeve (5'6" and 200 pounds, which is a 33 BMI). I lost 30 pounds the first three months, 20 pounds the next three months, and 8 pounds the last two months. I'm 8 pounds from my goal and I anticipate reaching it by my 11 month mark. There are several "Low BMI" threads on here that may be of interest to you, because low BMI folks don't drop the huge numbers of those with significantly higher BMIs. Good luck!

    Complications with surgery

You should consult an attorney, I don't think a perforated bowel is a complication that occurs very often with sleeve surgery, so you may not get much feedback here.
  6. Reno NV cost was $14,000.
  7. 142. Up two weeks in a row, so I missed by 1 pound!

    June 8th sleevers?

I was a low BMI (33) when I started this journey, but I had a lot of comorbidities. I've gone from 200 pounds to 140, where I've seemed to be hovering now for a month. The great news is that my high blood pressure, high cholesterol and sleep apnea are gone! I can definitely eat more now than I could the first six months and I am starting to struggle with food choices. Those damn carbs are still as addictive as before and they certainly don't fill me up like protein does. The honeymoon is definitely over. But exercise is easy when your knees and lungs don't hurt, so I need to concentrate on burning calories in order to maintain. Drinking water is also a lot easier these days too!
  9. 141.8. My first time in seven months I've actually gone up. One more week to get rid of .8!!!!

    Stretched Sleeve

I wonder if OP knows if her stomach was ever really sleeved to the extent many of ours were. Maybe her surgeon never reduced it to the thumb size most of us get because it was really large to begin with! Perhaps he reduced it 80%, but it still left her with an "approaching normal size" stomach.

I love you Babbs. Some people just don't get it!

    Coffee

I'm not sure about caffeine. My surgeon expressed its the acid that's the real culprit. The ulcer issue isn't the kind caused by bacteria either.

    IBS and GERD?

I had both and both are mostly gone. What I've learned is that both conditions really are caused by WHAT I ate. Even though I never thought that before surgery. Processed foods, sugar and flour are definitely the cause of inflammation, which then allows healthy foods like vegetables and whole grains to irritate the inflamed digestive track. I'm seven months out and am by no means perfect, but the very few times IBS symptoms occur, I always ate something that instigated it.

    Coffee

The thing about drinking acidic beverages is that you think you're "fine" until you are no longer "fine" and then it's too late. Sometimes it's years before you know. There's a thread here from sometime last year from a nurse whose brother rotted his stomach with diet soda and by the time he discovered it he had developed bad ulcers. When you have so little of a stomach left, an ulcer can be a life threatening.
  15. Bake chickpeas! Lots of recipes out there.
  16. Never heard of the throat scope surgery before, but I have heard of the single incision approach. Seems more dangerous to me. That being said, I was a low BMI regular sleeve and was back to normal in 3 days. I could and have kept it a secret from most people. But not from the man I love and who loves me. Those kind of secrets are just not what healthy relationships are made of.
  17. 141.8! I think I'll make it!

    Fat Shaming Husband...so hurt

Aren't there any elders in your church who might help with an intervention? Abuse is abuse. Regardless if a man is of the cloth.

    Stretched Sleeve

I cannot believe what people are eating! Pizza, wings, ice cream, cake? Of course we all will gain weight if those are the food choices we make. What happened to chicken breast, fish, and lean protein first; vegetables second and then a little complex carbs?

    BMI 31-32

I thought I'd post about my status because I know when I was getting started there weren't enough posts from low BMI people about their results. It's impossible to gage much info from those who are a lot heavier. I was 53 when I was sleeved seven months ago and weighed 200 pounds (33 BMI for a 5'6" female). I didn't do a pre-op diet. I lost 10 pounds per month average for the first four months after surgery and then about six pounds a month the next three. I'm 142 pounds now, have a normal BMI, and no longer have high cholesterol, high blood pressure, sleep apnea or a fatty liver. My size 8 skinny jeans are getting loose. I exercise regularly, but not fanatically. I eat small amounts of anything I want, but I mostly stay away from starches. I don't count calories per se, but I log EVERYTHING on My Fitness Pal. Cheats and all. I have had an occasional glass of wine or vodka, but I get tipsy immediately and don't imbibe very often. I CONCENTRATE on Protein and let everything else fall in line. If you get 65-75 grams of protein in, you don't have room for much else. Except for Peanut Butter cups, there's always room for one of those minis, so I try and stay away. My honeymoon phase is just starting to fade, so I am a realist. Get the work done now and build up healthy habits! Why would I regret this decision for a second? I don't!
  21. It was the vitamins in the meal replacement shakes that gave me the runs and feel nauseous. Protein powders without extras I do much better with.
