Post-op day 2 and regretting

@Ashley1213. Yes to Tylenol! The liquid Vicodin has it in it too. Get off that as soon as possible. -
Post-op day 2 and regretting
sleevenv replied to Ashley1213's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I felt like total crap the first 5 days. I just kept saying "this too will pas!" AND IT DID! I'm 17 days out and feeling great. Going out, socializing and doing everyday activities. I just don't revolve everything around food. I put protein fruit punch in my purse and a bottle of water. I have order soup at restaurants and just sipped the broth. YOU CAN DO THIS! -

I felt hungry after the first three days. I drank fruit punch protein drink instead of water sometimes and it helped a lot. By the time I got to day ten and could have full liquids and thinned yogurt I lost the hunger. But the gurgling that's constant is helped with the PPI and Gas X. I'm on day 17 now. -
I would give anything for a Diet Coke...

@shrinkingmom. THANK YOU for posting about your bother's journey. People need to be aware that the "it didn't have a bad affect on me" attitude is dangerous! It's a progression that happens--sometimes silently--and before you know it, the damage is done. If our surgeons and nuts tell us not to do something, then don't do it! They know things and have studies based on years of experience! The Bariatric association of surgeons say no carbonated beverages! -
@bnm4. I only can tolerate 1/2 scoop or it affects the flavor and texture. I really like adding it to tomato basil soup. Kind of makes it feel like I'm eating spaghetti sauce rather than just soup. But I add it to yogurt and cottage cheese as well. I try to keep each meal under 25 grams of protein because I hear you don't absorb any more than that at one time.
-
@@bnm4 I am definitely eating more. I get in 800 calories a day. I get the shakes and feel horrible if I don't. I'm still mostly on liquids with cottage cheese and yogurt added in. To get my protein up, I add Unjury unflavored protein to almost everything. I have good muscle mass and hair I want to keep! I can start more puréed foods, I've just been kind of disinterested in going into the cooking mode yet. I eat some soups, but they're really high in sodium. I wish I could pay someone to be my personal bariatric chef!

No week three stall for me! Woo hoo. I got it in week two! Down 15 pounds (from my beginning weight of 200) on post op day 17! I thought at a starting BMI of 33.3, that I'd only lose 10 pounds a month. So to lose 15 by this point, I am so thrilled!

I've had several abdominal surgeries and can tell you this wasn't the worse by far. Not quite as painless as my laparoscopic gall bladder removal (because the stomach inside still hurts from being stapled), but not as bad as my full cut incision from a hysterectomy. I had liposuction years ago (when I weighed a grand total of 124 pounds) and it hurt a lot more. Truly, the first five days were crappy, but not necessarily painful. You can do this!

Ok then. She's just jealous! Lol. People. Gotta love them!

@ktprimo. Well, I think your friend is somewhat right, you ARE going to change and these changes may affect your friendship. So excuse the soapbox preaching, but here's my take on why. I spent most of my life as a skinny girl. Although I had friends and family that were overweight and obese, I didn't spend a lot of time with them because out focus and interests were greatly different. When you're slim, you will be active. Your life won't revolve around food. You will want to do more stuff that active friends do (biking, hiking, swimming, clothes shopping, dancing etc.). Just remember how NOT fun those types of activities were when you were obese. I know my overweight friends are the ones I do food dates, movies with popcorn and candy, cooking, and drinking with. I had to leave that life behind with my stomach in the surgical waste. So I plan on changing. A lot! And for the better! Now that's not to say you can't be friends still, but the relationship will change. It has to if you change. We all have to change or we will be back to our old selves. I refuse to be the fat me anymore. The skinny girl wants to come back out!

My nut told me to chew mint gum when out to dinner, cooking and grocery shopping. I thought it was kind of silly, but it really did work to cut off the smell and taste senses. -
I had good first week, almost stalled second. HW 200, SW 198.6, CW 188.2. Wished I could have maintained the pound a day loss I started with, but I'll accept any loss! I hadn't lost a single pound in years. I never took measurements--maybe today.

Wow. Just wow!

Just the thought of drinking something cold and carbonated has me doubled over in pain! I think that's an addiction I'm truly over! -
Welcome @katgio52. I certainly felt that way the first five days! Hang in there. It only gets better.

My protein drinks have even less carbs. It's the soups and beans. I add protein powder, but carbs are still there. Along with those from yogurt. I'm cutting back on yogurt and only using zero carb Greek with a sprinkle of SF jello powder. I was also eating puréed potato soup. That's a lot of carbs too. Puréed stuff is where carbs are coming in, so I guess I've got to suck it up and start to puree chicken with protein broth. Sounds horrid! I'm at gym for second time and feel almost 90%! My doctor said I was good to go, just watch stomach crunches and heavy weights for another two weeks. @@Ktprimo, I hope you're cleared to swim! MFP won't let you "save" if you're under 1000 calories, but it does track you. Change your goals to 1000 calories per day (it's the lowest it will allow). I also upgraded the app to premium so it tracks the macronutrients. It's $50 for a year for the upgrade. Good luck!

How's everyone doing? We are just about two weeks post op! My third week stall happened week two. Boo hoo. I hope it doesn't continue. I've learned that I eat way too many carbs from My Fitness Pal! I'm getting in 79-90 grams of protein (primarily from Unjury, Nutrimed beverages and Greek yogurt), but my carbs from soups and refried beans are almost the same number of grams. It's hard to believe that eating only 600-700 calories per day--even if 40% of them are carbs)--can yield no weight loss. I've not even started the puréed foods because it'll be harder to get in protein. HW 200 SW 198.6 CW 188.8, but I was 190 six days out. I really do need to stop weighing myself.
-
Starting my three day, all-liquid fast in a couple of hours!!! Had one last food funeral last night and all it achieved was giving me heartburn! New life is around the corner.
-
Bless you for that! I'd be worthless if I had to work those hours! Good luck!

June 30th is around the corner!
sleevenv replied to sleevenv's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hey Janet86! I'm 12 days out and almost no pain other when I sneeze or bend over quickly. The first five days I was pretty crappy feeling, but nothing sitting around and resting didn't cure. I mainly use Bariatric Advantage shakes in vanilla and Orange Cream. They're on the thicker side, but I like that. My go to Protein is Nutrimed punch, lemonade and strawberry powders. I get them at my surgeons office, but they're the same as Medical Weight Loss or Lindoras clinic drinks. They taste like crystal light but have 12-15 grams of protein in them. I also use unjury chicken broth the first few days because warm felt better than cold to me. The Unjury plain I use all the time as an add in to Soups and yogurt. By using these supplements I have no problem getting in all my protein and fluids. I've been given the ok to start on puréed foods, but honestly other than adding retried Beans and Greek yogurt this week, I haven't started yet. Kind of scared because if I don't completely liquidate Jello in my mouth I feel it going down! I have a LOT of air bubble! Gas X is a miracle worker. Buy thee or four boxes ahead of time. I use one whenever I eat because it makes it easier and less painful. Last night I went to a party and did great. No one noticed I didn't eat anything other than a Virgin Mary and a Popsicle. I have no idea why they had them, but I was glad they did! Good luck and keep telling yourself "this, too, will pass!" -
What is carb cycling?
-
I'm ten days out and just got home from a party! No one even noticed I didn't eat! I just slowly put the food on my plate onto my husbands! Felt crappy first five days and slowly built up my activity. Just try and get 8 hours sleep per night!

You're all averaging a 1/2 pound per day loss. Not sure why you think that's slow! 15 pounds in a month--when is the last time you did that on your own? Let's just celebrate every ounce gone! Woo hoo ladies, we've got this! -
