Hugs Ezma, I hear you. Last weekend we decided that we had been working so hard around the house we would indulge in Chinese take away for dinner. We normally buy a few meals and a rice and share it between us. So that's what we did. And we would usually eat until we were overful, then wait 20 mins and eat again...you know that feeling with Chinese food. Well I could hardly eat 3 bites. It was tough. I was having one of those 'band-fickle' nights where I couldn't eat much, whereas the next night, I could eat a plateful! I was destroyed that I couldn't enjoy it anymore. I really really enjoyed chowing down to chinese food. I really do miss that, and I felt gutted this time around. I guess I am going to have to refrain on some foods more than others.

Hi all I have been in the low 80kg for so long, I tend to forget to weigh myself. Then this weekend, I weighed myself and I am not longer in the 80kgs. I am now 79.9kg which is worth celebrating! I will crack open the chips and the chocolate....oops no I won't I am really happy because that means I am less than 10kg away from my goal. It won't be easy as the last few months I have been in plateau a few times, but I think I have hit the sweet spot, and my weight may fall consistently (if slowly!). :crying::biggrin::wink2::biggrin::wub::biggrin::tt1::biggrin::tt1: <==== happy happy me!

coolcrystal I kilogram (kg) is worth 2.2 pounds (lbs). So in pound terms 80kg is 176lbs to 70 kg is 154 lbs I have lost 19kg which is 41.8 lbs!
-
Hi all I have been hovering in the 80kgs for the last, oh I don't know how long, but finally, I have broken into the 70kgs! I weighed myself yesterday and am 79.9kg! I threw a party and proceeded to eat chocolate and lollies.... It is working, but ever so slowly, but consistenly nonetheless.... Happy happy happy! This means I have less than 10kg to go! Hugs to everyone

I had one workmate on another floor ask me if I was sick and if I was OK because I had lost so much weigh. I laughed internally and said, absolutely that I was fine, I was losing weight deliberately. If only they knew!:crying:

I have a few mixer drinks each week. I have vodka and melon.....*insert Homer Simpson growl* I haven't had beer since I have been banded. I gave up Pepsi at the start of the year as I thought I would not be able to drink it any more, but took it up again about a month ago. It doesn't affect me unless I gulp it down! Then it hurts.:crying: I think anything in moderation is not going to hurt our pursuits.

I did tell my best friend and one of my co-workers. Then my daughter let it slip to my Sister-in-law who I didn't want knowing but has been great about it. That's it. I don't want everyone coming up to me and saying "how much weight have you lost now" because it really isn't about the weight so much. It's about finding what fits best in your life, it's about getting the head into a spot where it is comfortable and not obsessing about eating and weight problems, and it's about me. Me only. And noone needs to know. Funnily enough, I have had many people ask if I was losing weight and how have I done it. I just rely on the old, eating very little and exercising and a lot of discipline. That tends to satisfy their need to pry. I have had one person who asked me if I was sick, as I had lost so much weight! I reassured them, I was not sick (in the head maybe though!) and that I was losing weight deliberately. The best part is that it is gone forever. No longer will my workmates (I have been here 21 years and people have seen me up and down in weight for that long!) see me go up again. This is maintainable!!!

Goodl luck to all who have been, or will be banded this month. Your new life awaits you!:banghead:

Oh boy, why is it that we crave things now that we have never craved before (being banded)? I too am craving nuts, walnuts and plenty of them. Trouble is I eat them too fast and I really do suffer. Anyway when I told my doc that, he asked me to keep away from nuts. They provide a high energy fix but that's about it. So needless although they are a great snack to say I am cutting down slowly :whatchutalkingabout He asked me to have fruit instead.....

Hi all After an agonising 7 weeks since my last fill (agonising since I lost restriction and just the wait was long) I finally had another fill last night. Problem is now I am a little bit overful and am having trouble with liquids. I have made an appointment to see my surgeon tomorrow night, in the hpe that it may settle (am I being a little to optimistic??). I can't even burp - so that tells me there's something a little wrong. I am a little disappointed of course, but I would rather be at the sweet spot (I haven't reached that point yet) than to be too overfull and not be able to eat anything? Anyone with a similar experience?
-
Ahhhh instant relief during my unfill. Because I wasn't vomiting and keeping liquids down, the doc only removed half of what he put in. Yahoo, I am so much better now. I can actually burp again!! And now I can eat... :biggrin2:

Administrator and Opinions sought - Front Page of LapBandTalk.com
peek posted a topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I must say I am NO FAN of the new front page to this forum. It takes me twice as long to find what I am looking for, it is full of rubbish I don't want to see and the actual content of what used to be this forum has been squeezed onto a small column to the right. It just doesn't seem user friendly anymore. I believe it has lost its appeal by all this advertising/information. Can't we make a separate link for all of the info in the middle or is it completely necessary to have there? Can one of the administrators help here? Perhaps others have opinions that they wish to voice? -
I am sure I am the plateau queen! I have been losing and putting on the same weight for nearly 3 months now. I can shift some, but it returns. I have now returned to playing netball after a 4 week hiatus, so that might help start to shift the weight again. But although I am not seeing it in the scales, I am seeing it in my clothes. I know I have lost bulk, but not the weight. Go figure! I am hoping with this new fill (I had 1.1ml put in last night and have to have some taken out as I can't tolerate liquids very well) will set me on the path to losing lots of weight consistently!!! Hang in there. I tried breaking the plateau by having all high calorie stuff for a few days - and low and behold I now have chocolate issues....

I have heard that your period can play havoc with the band. My period is due any day, which is probably why I feel like crap and may even be contributing to the tightness. I am also very phlegmy while I eat (mind you it's just yoghurt and it does hurt a little) and drink now. Nevertheless, I will head off for an unfil tomorrow. Thanks for that advice.

Initially I didn't eat breakfast. But then I got wise. And don't take this the wrong way, it's just the way it was for me! I spoke with my nutritionist who told me that an Up-and-Go and yoghurt for breakfast was not ideal (slips through). I needed something a little more solid to satisfy my hunger. I started small and soft, and then gradually built up so that now I have either porridge with a banana or cottage cheese and mango. I can eat a horse at breaky now and it certainly satisfies me for the morning. I am not sure if this would suit everyone but I eat breaky at work, but as soon as I have finished in the shower I make myself a hot drink. This helps in that I can then stomach a breakfast about 1 hour later. Take it slowly. I have had 3 fills and due another in 4 days and I may not be able to have breakfast for some weeks. But when my body adjusts to the new fill, I am hoping that I will be able to have a reduced breakfast. Hugs all

What will you look like at 6 months AKA your 6-month goals
peek replied to Ezma's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Some of you have done remarkably well. All kudos to you guys. I don't have a goal since I didn't meet any short term ones in the first place. (I thought it would go quicker for me, meh!) But I am just under 3kg away from hitting 80kg so I will set that as a target. Since my weight loss has been reeaaaalllllllyyyyyyyy slow and inconsistent, I think that is achieveable. My mini goal this year was to lose enough weight for my calves to fit into knee high boots..No such luck, so I will have to put that off until next winter! I am due to see my dietician tomorrow and another fill on 5 August. I am looking forward to having restriction again (last fill removed my feeling of restriction). I now know the foods I need to avoid like the plague - Pasta, bread and cake! I have had 3 PB'ing episodes and I am no longer vomitphobic! It's really not that bad, apart from the pain. Good luck to everyone in getting to their goals. I hope I can achieve mine. -
LadyBugRed I feel for you. I know the exact position you are in. I too am hypothyroidism and have known for 13+ years. I have been up and down with dosage, but the last year we think we have it right. However, I don't think that even if your thryoid is reacting like it should, does it make it easier to lose weight. I do all the right things: I am active, I play netball three times a week, eat properly and I still have trouble losing weight. That's why my doc put me onto the band. Even after the band, I find that if I don't exercise, I start to lose weight. Go figure! I think we have to trick our bodies, and eat different amounts of calaries each day. Up one day then down the next. If I eat the same thing every day (eg. small can of tuna and a cucumber) for lunch with similar amounts at dinner, my body doesn't recognise it is dieting. I eat so much less now than ever before, but it's still a struggle to move the weight - it's so darned confusing sometimes.

I am rooting for you batkitty. You should be in getting your port fixed as we speak! I hope it goes well and you recover quickly. I am sorry your pregnancy didn't stick. I know how much you wanted it and how devastating the bad news can be. Hugs. coffee soon? I have been so busy of late - I know you understand. When you are up and running again, lets get together.

Random musings.... My weight loss is going so ssssssssslowly but I am not angry or disappointed about that. I expected it since that's how I used to lose weight (pre-band) but I would love for it to be consistently losing. I spent 6 weeks on a plateau until my last fill, then I had a 4 week hiatus from playing netball, and lost some weight (about 6lbs) (get this - I lose weight by not exercisng???? :confused2::confused2::confused2:) but I am sort of still plateauing. That is frustrating to say the least. I am due another fill on 5 August but I doubt he will put in much since I am within about .5 of a ml of where they think my sweet spot will be. I also suffer from hypothyroidism and I suspect that slows the loss down a bit too, but i cannot confirm this. Am I being to fastidious by looking for excuses. My weight is all in my legs and bum now. I have a little upper torso and no boobs and tummy with a little weight on my arms. But I am exercising regularly again and doing almost all the right things as far as food wise (I did slip into old ways with Pepsi and chocolate a few weeks back ). I can see the difference in my legs which is pleasing to say the least. I still carry a lot of weight there though and suspect that it will take another 12 months to get down to my goal weight. I have no answer..nor no suggestions! I am so helpful sometimes. -
That's great news Val. In my experience I feel tight for the first few days then it tends to settle down a little. I hope to feel that tightness at my next fill in a couple of weeks. I feel indifferent about my next fill. I have had some trouble with PB'ing and particularly Pasta getting stuck, but I am not at the point where I can recognise that I am restricted or full when I eat. I am still eating far to much at a time and far too quickly! I can eat about three cups at a sitting and still not feel satisfied. I am glad you are feeling that tightness sensation. As you say, your weight might start falling off again.!

Ha, I thought PB was just food! Then I have PB'd and had 2 sliming episodes which were just gross. I have found out now that my band will not tollerate spagetti bolognese as that's what I ate the times when it happened.. Looks like that is definately off the menu!

As of June 22nd, my 4 month Bandiversary, I have lost 34.3 pounds. I have had 3 fills, 6.9ccs in a 12cc band -
Bundy55 When were you banded? I used to get that especially in the mornings up til about 8 weeks after banding. It did disappear eventually. Hang in there. Did your surgeon put any fill in during the op? I thought mine didn't, but there was actually 2mls in there when I went for my first fill!

The two things I have learned recently...
peek replied to coolcrystal's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
CoolCrystal hang in there. Remember it all takes time. Here's one for you! I haven't been playing netball for the last 2 weeks (we are on a mid season hiatus) and I have lost 2.3kg. I haven't done any other exercise apart from working around the house and I lost weight!! And for the 8 weeks before that, even when I play netball I don't lose any weight... Go figure? -
Hi all I need some advice. I saw my Doc this week who gave me another fill. He asked if I was getting any reflux of any type which I answered as a No as I don't get it. But what I did mention was I get the occasional pain in my left shoulder in the scapula area (see here) and quite often in the chest area just where the (see here) on the joint of the second rib (from the top). He asked when I get this pain and I thought it was generally after I had eaten. He described to me that sometimes this can happen if the stoma is distended. Does that mean I am eating too much? I know before this fill I could eat quite a lot but I really did restrict myself as I knew how much I should be eating. I did have some restriction from my band too. Note that I have been on a plateau for 6 weeks too. I had another fill at the last visit and hope that I start feeling a bit fuller a bit quicker. He said I should be aiming to eat a meal in between 20-45 minutes an no longer or shorter. What I am eating I really eat in about 10-15! Just wondering if anyone can help as far as their experience or advice. I really don't want to be stretching my stoma too much and I need to know when to stop eating or I might just pop! Oh and I just remembered, is the full feeling like there is stuff still stuck in your throat but you have swallowed it? I don't think it's reflux but this is a feeling I get... Thanks
