    I'm Back And I'm Losing

Hi everyone, well I had my surgery on Wednesday and flew back to cold oh so cold Detroit last night. I can't believe how fast things happened and how good I feel today, I am so so so proud of myself. I still have a tight chest and a pain where the port is but other than that I feel great. One thing I can't work out is where all this gas is coming from, do they really put that much into you!!!! Mind you, it seems the more I let go the better I feel!!! I know this probably isn't the right place to say it but the staff and service I got from Dr.Joya were just fantastic. If anyone is still looking for information and wants to know more about what happened please email me. I just wanted to let you all know I was back and once again thank you all for the support and advice you gave beforehand. GLAD TO BE A BANDSTER

    I'm on my way!!!!

Firstly I'd like to thank everyone who has written here and posted their comments and advice. It has been great reading everyones stories and I've been trying to absorb all your letters and words. I fly out tomorrow to PV and will be banded on Wednesday. Not sure what time yet but when I come back on Friday I hope to join the many of you who said it was a 'plesent experiance'. I'm still very nervouse about it but know its the right thing to do. So anyway as you all say to each other when banding is about to happen.....SEE YOU ON THE OTHER SIDE!!!!!!! Regards to all of you
  8. October 5th for me and I can't wait, mind you I'm starting to worry a bit

    Soon To Be Banded

I hope everything goes fine for you tomorrow Venessa and yes, please please keep in touch and let me know how things went. Answering some of the other questions I am going to have my surgery down in Puerto Vallarta with Dr. Joya. I have read many good things on various forums about him and so far the service I have got before going down there has been great. I'm going to spend an extra day down there after the surgery and hope I have a chance to look round and see a little bit of the town. If not the hotel pool looks a nice place to lounge by!! I have checked about my fills up here in Detroit and found a Dr. Pleatman in Rochester Hills to be helpful in taking apatients from other surgeries. I think though its best, at least for the first fill to go back down to where I had the surgery done and see the same doctor. I will though take your comments on board Anwyn and look up the doctor at Henry Ford. I'll contact you about him at a later date if that's okay. This really has been a whirlwind experiance in getting everything sorted out so quickly. Being a self pay helps but once my mind was made up that was it. All I keep dreaming about is not having to worry about fitting in those kiosks when at a resturant. I can't wait to have my daughter over from the UK next year and being able to sit next to her on those roller coasters she so much wants me to go on. The thoughts of doing what I can do then to what I can't do know are just so many. Thnkyou all very much for all your advice and support....Gordon

    Soon To Be Banded

Hi everyone, firstly a big thankyou to everyone who has posted and given their advice and opinions. I've spent many evenings reading and studying what you have all said, I've even watched a banding operation posted on a web site which was both fascinating, educating and fantastic. I have now got my surgery and flights all booked up and will be leaving cold wet Detroit for sunny Mexico on October 4th. I just love looking at the before and after pictures and you have all given me the inspiration I need to get this surgery booked up. I'll be honored to post mine there someday. If anyone else is planning surgery for around that date please write back to me and maybe we can share notes and start the 'countdown' together. You have all been great. Carry on the good work and I will keep you posted of how things go.

    Is this a normal request?

Hi everyone, After disappointing news from my insurance provider I have decided to go ahead and do the self pay thing. I have sorted out the finance and am in the process of deciding which doctor to use. Has anyone got any advice in whether Dr. Joya or Dr. Kuri in Mexico would be the better choice. I also need to know if anyone has been asked to lose weight before surgery. I had a call from one of the surgeries, not mentioned above, saying that I needed to lose at least 30lbs before surgery so to go on a crash diet. Is this normal being as I haven't seen this mentioned before? Thank you all for showing your thoguhts and feelings on this forum, its been great reading other peoples stories and I know this is something that I have to do to change my life. Regards
  13. Hi everyone, well this is my first posting and I must say its fantastic getting to see all the photos and read all the stories from people who have gone down the lapband road. To cut a long story short I came here to the U.S four years ago and fell in love with the woman of my dreams. We got married and now I'm here to stay. Unfortuanatly since being here the weight has just piled on and with that the depression has set in. I was always a big person but living a life which I know enjoy has made me larger than ever. I've thought about doing this for some time now and approached my doctor who said maybe I just needed to exercise!!!! As if I hadn't thought of that!!! I thought then it may be wise to approach my insurance provider, NGS who I guess have to say have been unsupportive. So now I'm here trying to find the best doctor to do the lapband. I have the funding in place but not for American surgeons. I've narrowed it down to a few, Dr.Joya being one of them. Any advice from anyone would be fantastic in deciding where to go. I would also like to see some advice from the men on this site. There seems to be lots of women here but a short supply of men. I'm wondering are things different?, do we get different pains?, do we lose weight the same as ladies? I have loads of questions and would love to see loads of advice. One last thing, how long is the norm from when you contact the surgeon to when you can have surgery, is there a long wait? Like I said its great to see all you wonderful people and I'm really looking forward to making a life changing decision. Congratulations to you all...Gordon
