Surgery on Dec 23, I have a cold and un-supportive husband
CravingABetterMe posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm still doubting myself and whether I should cancel my surgery, which is in 4 days. My husband says I don't need it because i've gone from 224 to 186 on my own this year. Im 5'2". I cried half the night last night because of some of the things he said. Like, "it's not like you can return it or sell it if it doesn't work" "you're not excercising every day," "you have commitment issues," "you've done good so far, why not jut keep going?" He is still willing to go with me to the hospital and stay until i'm in recovery. But he has no faith in me. Which makes me have little faith in myself. I am so afraid, but instead of trying to make me feel better anf telling me it will all be ok... I get nothing. And he is right, I do have commitment issues. I don't know if i can exercise every single day. I lied to my doctor and said that I was. I've been so stressed about this surgery and sick for most of November that I hardly worked out at all. Now I don't know if I can/should go through with it. I almost hope that my cold doesn't go away so the surgery can get cancelled. I can't afford next years health deductible to be able to reschedule it. Then he won't feel like i'm holding it over his head. But i'll still feel like I failed at completing yet another thing. My face is so stuffed up that I sort of feel drunk. I don't know what to even ask here. Any comments are welcome. (oh yeah, I have 2 kids, 8 & 3, and no family in this state, or any good friends to look to for support) Though the family would have the same mentality and my husband.- 22 replies

Any 30's bandies who started at 220-230lbs? I have a few Q's
CravingABetterMe posted a topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Background: I'm 31, 5'2" and 223 lbs in my birthday suit. Seriously considering getting banded. I'm constantly hot and sweaty, uncomfortable in my skin, easily out of breath, tired, don't enjoy being intimate, pretty much always feel hungry, have a hard time sleeping. Just had a physical and everything is generally ok, no thyroid issues. Being treated for high BP, anxiety/depression, PCOS, and Acid Reflux. Now for the q's. How long did it take you to lose weight? If you had hot flashes before, did they stop? Do you have more energy? Do you sleep better? What does your skin look/feel like on various parts of your body? Is there a lot of sagginess? (I know that sounds vein, but I can't afford plastic surgery and i'm afraid my full D's will look like pancakes) I would really appreciate some feedback from people in my age and weight range!! Thank you! -

Thanks for all the replies! I contacted my insurance company and have to jump through a few hoops before they hopefully approve me. First is a doc-supervised 3 month diet! -
To tell or not to tell

I'm at the point where I really want to get banded. Next step is to call the insurance company and go through their 3 month process. What I'd like to know is how did your family react? I don't live in the same state as my family so would have to tell them over the phone. Do you get a lot of criticism over how little and what you eat? -
What to do about Insurance coverage?
CravingABetterMe replied to Lovesabby's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I just found this info on my UHC member page. They have a lot of hoops to jump through, but they DO cover it! (copied from UHC) Bariatric Resource Services (BRS) is a surgical weight loss solution for those individual(s) who qualify clinically for bariatric surgery. Specialized nurses provide support through all stages of the weight loss surgery process. Our program is dedicated to providing support both before and after surgery. Nurses help with decision support in preparation for surgery, information and education important in the selection of a bariatric surgery program and post-surgery and lifestyle management. Nurses can provide information on the nation's leading obesity surgery centers, known as Centers of Excellence. Access the Bariatric Resource Services Centers of Excellence programs at 1-888-936-7246 or visit www.myoptumhealthcomplexmedical.com All authorization information and enrollment for bariatric surgery must be initiated through United Resource Networks (U.R.N.). Covered participants seeking coverage for bariatric surgery should obtain prior authorization U.R.N. as soon as the possibility of a bariatric surgery procedure arises (and before the time a pre-surgical evaluation is performed) at a bariatric surgery center by calling U.R.N., at 1-888-936-7246 to enroll in the program. Guidelines ● 3 month (consecutive) supervised weight loss program with physician ● Nutritional evaluation ● Psychiatric evaluation ● Letter of recommendation from bariatric surgeon and another physician.
