    recovery time questions

I remember with my sleeve procedure that the abdominal pain was tough for lil bit because they wanted me to cough and use that breathing ball thingy (spirometer....?) but if you hug something tight against the abdomen it helps ease the pain. aside of that I would presume six weeks should be good. I had total knee replacement last year and was out four weeks everyone heals differently tho. good luck

    recovery time questions

Nikkiperezcassar - How do you anticipate dealing with the dietary phases once back at work? Do you have a plan, if yes, care to share ? I agree with the depression, I love LOVE love being away from work but the time away makes it mentally and emotionally challenging for me to get back into a routine of "having to" go back Boo
  4. I haven't had the surgery yet BUT, I wouldn't worry about it. I believe you will have a urine catheter in place for first day or two. You will be fine however if I am wrong, still don't worry!!! If your incontinent, they will clean you up. I had an endoscopy once and had an incontinence episode. I was slightly embarrassed but, they assured me, that it was nothing, they see worse, and its not a big deal.....it happens!

    Panni Vs tummy tuck

Tummy tuck. You don't want the upper portion of your belly to be your next personal eyesore. I say if your going to do it, go for it one hundred percent so you have NO regrets. Sure, it may cost you some out of pocket expense but the end result is worth it. Think about all the money we mindlessly spent through out our lives on food to get to the place of despair - ultimately causing us to make a drastic body altering decision. Personal body image is half of why many of us start this journey to begin with. You owe it to yourself to be 100% satisfied with how you look- you've earned it. Proud of you! .....and I cant wait to be where your at right now! Keep us posted

    recovery time questions

So how much time are you/did you take off from work? I am toiling with 4 to 6 weeks only because I don't want to have that port thingy in when I go back and I would like to be able to eat something while at work. Would rather not draw attention to my shakes. I don't know. But then I feel like, 4 to 6 weeks may be way too long! I don't want to be home and get depressed because I cant eat anything - Hoping I wont want to eat anything! But you know, the home comfort eating that happens when your home and really do not have much to do so you eat out of boredom. What do you all suggest?

    Mood swings

Oh my, I haven't even had the surgery yet and I am Moody! God help them and us. Them- the innocent (or antagonists) to deal with our cranky behinds and help us to be gentle and kind to "them" and ourselves. Gggrrrr
  9. This Friday, June 12th, I will have completed the last of all of my pre-op requirements then my package goes to the insurance company for review. In the interim, I am feeling so angry with myself. I have had good intentions of "starting post op behaviors" and am repeatedly disappointing myself. I have had intentions of: limiting my sugar intake; removing coffee; stop chewing gum; walking; meal prep......all of which I have been so inconsistent and unsuccessful with. This is scaring me! I am worrying that if I cant get it together NOW, at least successfully incorporate and accomplish ONE behavior modification pre-surgery, that I am going to ultimately fail. I read all of these posts from pre-surgical candidates speaking of the great barriers they have overcome before their surgery date and feel like something must seriously be wrong with me. Why cant I get a grip and make one true, strong committed change like everyone else?! Does this mean I am not ready? Am I kidding myself? I have been seeing a therapist for the past few months, since I started this bariatric Quest, and she believes I will do fine. Stating that I need the surgery to help curtail the eating. I also see a nutritionist every two weeks, who has been trying to help me to put myself first. Why cant I do it!! Why wont I go for a walk? Workout on my elliptical; eat healthier NOW? I feel so terribly lost. I have written before, and not really received feedback but I want to thank you for at least providing me with an outlet to express myself. Good luck to each of you.

    Losing faith in myself

Thank you so much to each of you for responding. Your encouragement and reassurances are helping tremendously! I'm comforted in knowing I am not alone with my frustrations.

    The Wait Begins...

    Congrats!!!
  12. I was told that it would be slower weight loss by my nutritionist, my surgeon never said this to me I am so disheartened by this. I'm over 300 pounds again. While 10 pounds a month lost is undoubtedly better than gained - and CONGRATULATIONS to you on that success, I feel disappointed. I still have one last insurance hurdle to accomplish before it is submitted for review.....could be combination of my nerves and too much "wait" time but would you still do it again? ....and Thank You very much for replying!
  13. How is everyone's weight loss going? I am interested in hearing about weight loss success rates from Sleeve to RNY. Anyone able to share?

    The Wait Begins...

So what is the good word ladies? Did you both get approved; did you have your surgery already; how are you doing?
  15. I lost a little over 100 pounds with sleeve and have since gained half back. Feeling so many emotions- failure, hope, excitement, fear..... Certainly hoping insurance will cover but won't know until one more step in process is completed. I am worried about ease of transition foods/liquids post surgery, as I really wont have much help with meal prep. and instead will be surrounded by temptations out of my control because of my housemates. I thought I had said goodbye to the 300's....hope weight loss will be significant post bypass. definitely need to do things differently and have started, like therapy, nutritionist and support groups. Is there anyone in similar circumstances with WLS surgery progressions? Can you give me some tips, idea of weight loss success? Anything shared is appreciated.

    Converting from Sleeve to Bypass?

Hi Ladies: I am a former bander (2005) to sleeve (2008) and now trying for the bypass. How much weight loss have you experienced since your conversion to bypass? Is it slower because you had sleeve initially or is the bypass giving you similar results to those who initially get the bypass? Thank you for sharing.

    Band removal approved; bypass denied!

You absolutely deserve a second chance! and a third, or fourth if needed. food addiction is no joke, it is so difficult to tackle on our own. My suggestions: 1- definitely do NOT give up! 2-Talk to your primary care provider and see if he can write you a letter of support, indicating any comorbidities you may have that could be attributed to being overweight. 3- Certainly Nutrisystem documentation counts! Worth a try in any regard. 4- if you need six months of documentation, start now. Go as far back as you can. If possible see your PCP and have monthly appointments with them so they can progress note it. 5- See if you can get a therapist on board as well. They now the impact of obesity on self esteem and mental status. I am certain they too can write you a letter of support indicating the negative implications being overweight is having on you. DO NOT GIVE UP!! YOU ARE DESERVING.

    My Revision Story

Factory - really research the pros ans. I had the lap band in 2005 then converted to the vertical sleeve in 2008 .... and here I am now trying to get what I was so afraid to have....the bypass. Granted, we are totally different beings and your path is yours alone. I would just make sure the sleeve is absolutely what you want before committing to it. All the best~

    VSG revision to Gastric Bypass

Blessings to you on your journey! I am happy for you and cant wait to hear all the news on your recovery. I have one step left then surgeons office will submit to insurance company. Prayerfully it will be approved. I am a former lap bander, converted to gastric sleeve and needing the bypass. Such a tiresome battle against obesity. The emotional yuck and self esteem blocks are endless in this fight. Praying for success and completion! You only have a few more hours woohoo!!
