Waiting for my surgery approval/date
smrogg replied to smrogg's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Oh my!! I knew it was the 15th but didn't realize it was this close. The one thing I'm most nervous about is the immediate recovery from it like an hour after surgery. Other than that I'm ok...for now! Lol. -

Good luck! You have been waiting a long time. Hopefully it will be before July 29! I know work can put such stresses on workers due to vacations but you have to do this for yourself. They will just have to handle work without you until you recover. -

Still waiting...how is it going for you? -
Ugh!!! Need to vent a little. My dad (who had gastric bypass) made a comment tonight that I won't drop the weight as easily as he or my husband (who also had GP) did because I'm a girl. Well, thanks for the words of encouragement, Dad! I know everyone is different. But just because I'm a woman doesn't mean I can't lose the weight. Ughhhhhhh. Now he's got me worried that I'm doing this for nothing, I'm already afraid I won't lose the weight as it is. I don't need this right now....

It may be factual, but he didn't need to make a comment like that that may or may not have discouraged me. I've gotten other negative comments as well from others. I was just venting in general -

Someone is always going to say something negative I've come to find out. My sister told me that I can't have the surgery bc then she's going to be the only fat one left in the family. It's just selfishness. I'm finally doing something for just me and no one is going to bring me down. I don't want to look back in ten years and say I wish I did it instead of listening to the haters. -

You know what? You're right. I love proving people wrong and living above the standard. That's going to be my drive. I will not be who they think I will be. They have no idea what I can accomplish. Everyone is different. No matter what gender you are. -

I don't really have an expectation on what weight I want to be. I just want to be comfortable. And if I can get back to being a size 13/14 like I was before I got married, I will be perfectly content. But if I become smaller than that, it's always a bonus too. I just want to be healthy, run around with my little girls, and do things that my weight has held me back from. That's all. I don't care about the number, I care about how I feel. -

Yes! Thank God. I was back to my normal self in about 2 weeks. I have SI joint problems too. It sucks!!! I just had a cortisone shot about two weeks ago and it felt better but now I'm feeling the pain again. -

That's awesome. I hope mine goes just as quickly. I have Cigna. I keep getting preparing myself for the phone call saying I was denied, but I don't think there is a reason they would deny it. I just have a habit of preparing for the worst. My husband yells at me all the time because I'm so negative. That's great that your mom will be coming to help you and you have a good support system. I bet you will recover quickly. I'm not too worried about the surgery myself. I've had 2 c-sections and I also just had my gall bladder removed in preparation for bypass. They use the same incisions for bypass and I was fine with the gall bladder surgery. It's not so bad, but having help is always a plus. My husband plans to take a few days off from work to help with the kids as I recover. -

Hi @lauraellen80. I'm having gastric bypass. I too have been having too many food funerals as you call them ????. I am looking forward to eating right and getting energy!! My weight has held me back from a lot of things and it's only getting worse so something has got to give. I exercise and only a few pounds comes off. My biggest struggle is remembering to eat and when I do eat I'm so hungry I don't make the best choices. I haven't tried any of the shakes yet, bc my dr wants me to wait until I have my date to start. My BMI is 43.0 and my insurance requires a minimum of 40.0 to be eligible, so he doesn't have me on a plan yet. But once I get my date I will be using them! My husband had bypass a year ago in December and has lost 160 pounds. He's a new man! And I'm hoping we can support each other in this journey so that we are both successful at it. Waiting is terrible, although it's only been 2 days since my last dr appt. but I'm hoping to hear soon. The anticipation and worry if not getting approved is killing me. Although I meet all requirements there's always that "what if" -
