I m sixty one and just had my VSG surgery on 5/14/15. It is really different being in my age category and having this surgery. Results and expectations seem to be different. My body is taking longer to heal and the surgery was no piece of cake, but then I didn't expect to just get up and get off the table and walk away! My biggest surprise was that the scale didn't move for several days. Finally, after reading some of the post, I figured out it was because of the Fluids used during surgery, IV fluids, etc. On day 5 post op, the scale really started to show a loss and I was ecstatic. And yes, I have been hungry - mostly "head hunger" because I am a self-proclaimed foodie! Very uncomfortable for the last 3 days, craving for certain foods. I used some creative culinary skills to get through this, making broth and Soup from scratch. This phase is passing into the "mushy stage" which couldn't come fast enough in my opinion. Since I didn't do this for cosmetic reasons, but for health reasons, I hadn't been thinking a lot about my Goal numbers, I am finally starting to work on both long and short term goals for the next month, to the next six months. There'a lot of planning ahead needed to be successful. Anyway, that's my journey so far!

Looking for a buddy with lower pre op BMI
skinnyrita replied to Jme82's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I also had a very low BMI but surgery was recommended by my cardiologist who encouraged me to have it in order to reduce the uncontrolled hypertension, which I have struggled with for over a year. Just got sleeved and I'm 9 days post op. I could have never achieved the 16 lb weight loss without this surgery. I have actually felt myself being happy, knowing I am not resigned to a life of restrictions because of health/weight! My knees have stopped hurting already and today I will be going through some clothes to find a few pieces to get me through the next low size, which I already anticipate needing very soon. The comments and opinions of others only show the total lack of awareness in our culture about obesity-related illness. But I know in my heart I've just given myself a clean slate to renew my health. I would love to be buddies and join in supporting you through making the next year the best year of our lives! -
I was sleeved on 5/14/15 and like you I had nausea the first two days. I was so relieved they kept me in hospital an extra day because they kept me on IVs and the nurses were there every four hours with a shot of Zofran. after 24 hours of that, I could keep down Water and the feeling went away. I never actually threw up, but I was scared if I started to I might mess up the surgery. Thank goodness that only lasted a bit, and I haven't been nauseous since! Hang in there!

Condensed Protein Shake
skinnyrita replied to jm726's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If you have a GNC near you, have someone get you a couple of Isopure waters (40 grams of protein) per bottle. I like the grape personally. I.m getting liquid and protein at the same time by drinking these. I ordered a case from Vitamin Shoppe???? -
lower left side pulling sensation and pain
skinnyrita posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi, I'm new here at this forum so hello. My procedure was the VSG and I m six days post op. So far its been uneventful recovery, except for today when I decided to push my activity level a bit. I was simply walking around a local store for about an hour and started to have a pulling type of pain in my lower left abdomen above my hip bone. I came home and took my prescription Tylenol with Hydrocodone and laid down for an hour. When I got up, the pain is still there. and kind of random. It doesnt seem likely that it s a blood clot since I'm on blood thinners. Does anyone out there know or have the same symptoms? My follow up is not until June 2nd so I'm concerned. any info would be appreciated! skinnyrita -
Post op day 3 and struggling
skinnyrita replied to A little less 4 now on's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi, I'm new to the forum and I should probably introduce myself. I was sleeved on May 14,2015 at the suggestion of my cardiologist. I've been fighting with high, uncontrolled blood pressure for over a year and in the hospital twice. I hated being on the meds and it seemed nothing was really working for me, so my Dr. Asked me if I'd thought about the sleeve. It took over 8 months to get approved and now I'm one week post op. Pre surgery weight was 225, day of surgery weight was 216, and today I weighed in at 202, so I m almost jumping for joy ( except it hurts too much). I want to encourage all of us sleevers, that having WLS is not the easy way out- far from it! In addition to jumping through the dietary hoops, the ignorance of some unafflicated with obesity about the surgery, we are also giving up a way of coping, which was previously with food. Food surrounds almost every occasion I can think of, and it is in our faces constantly. After surgery, I was not prepared for my enormous head hunger, although I had been warned about it. I kept having thoughts about "real food" although I don't feel hungry, it became obvious that I emotionally miss food, the rituals surrounding it, and how it punctuates the different moments of my life. To me, it feels like grieving over the loss of a friend. I had to turn my attention to other things, in order to distract the negative thoughts. Ive been journaling a bit, found this forum, reading and reorganizing my kitchen around my new lifestyle. After all we will be able to eat good nutritious food at some point! I'm preparing for the times when I want something Italian by looking into lighter versions of what I used to prepare, I m thinking about how I will face the times when people want me to join them in a food celebration and what it will take to successfully navigate that situation. I'm planning my exercise program which will help me maintain what the sleeve is going to give me - which is my health back. Speaking for me personally, I let food have way too much of my life to the point where my future health was in jeopardy and I had to make a decision to change or not to have a choice at some point. So now I have the additional task of changing my codependent relationship with food into one of less importance, and less time, I know we will all have these challenges, but that's what is so great about a support forum- your friends, fellow sleevers, are there to cheer you on and support you through both the successes and disappointments and for assurance that we made a bold and brave choice for health. -
lower left side pulling sensation and pain
skinnyrita replied to skinnyrita's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks to both of you for your feedback. Good news, today I feel OK and the pain hasn't resurfaced so rest mustve been what I needed. I am very eager to get back to my normal routine, so I probably went overboard. I'm new on this forum and happy to find supportive fellow sleevers! Thanks again, and I'll be adding my stats later today! skinnyrita -
Im only 6 days post op and I remember thinking similar thoughts right up til they wheeled me out to surgery. It s normal to be nervous. God bless and keep you!
