    Head hunger..

It will take time for your emotional relationship with food to change. And the more effort you put into changing your lifestyle from " food centered" to " health centered" and all the things you can do to support that, the better off you'll be! I've found that pre planning my menus and looking for healthy versions on the bariatric food blogs has turned my focus from " can't to can! I have to be alert so my body doesn't go back to gaining mode. Also exercising. 5-6 days a week to support and increase weight loss keeps me busy. Believe me, nature wants to get me back to my old weight because that's what our bodies tend to want- homeostasis ( not change).
  2. An irritated stomach which Is healing and the head hunger everyone talks about are two things that come to mind. Make sure your are get your Protein First which will help satiety. Keep busy and away from the kitchen. I never realized how much time I used to spend buying, thinking about food and preparing and eating food. It was my whole world! I had to make significant behavioral changes to support my new lifestyle. It does get easier so keep working your program and get into a support group if there's one in your city. Best of luck and keep posting.

    Concerned about my Blood Pressure

It is scary to have high uncontrolled BP. I'm so sorry you're going through that! I had been struggling with mine for over a year and no meds seemed to work consistently. Finally my cardiologist suggested to look into VSG surgery which I had on May 14 because resolve the problems related to high blood pressure and pre diabetes. Not only did it make my weight go down which certainly affects her blood pressure but it also has resolved a number of other problems like joint pain Gerd low energy. I'm 61 and I am feeling better everyday. I'm hoping to be off all meds at my next follow up????
  4. First of all, you lucky dog going to Paris for 3 days! The food and the people are fantastic there and culinary options abound. It will help you a lot to get what you want if you learn a few French phrases to say because they tend to look at Americans with a surly attitude, especially if We don't adapt to Their culture. Get one of the great phone apps for this which play the phrase. For instance, learn to say " Je voudrais une salade Nicoise ( tuna salad). Anything without something is "sans" Water is served at room temperature most places . You will be fine! Also if you know your hotel and which restaurants you'll be going to, try to look up their menus. If there's no English version, copy and put them in Google translate so you can plan ahead. Have a great time in the city of lights!

    5 weeks out poop issues!

Has anyone tried calcium citrate chews to resolve constipation? I've read other posts about this that say it helped but I believe they were talking about liquid calcium citrate. If so, what brand did you find helpful and how much did you take? I've had two bouts of constipation since May and I don't want to go through that again!
  6. I am just 9 weeks out from sleeve gastrectomy. At 61 years old I didn't expect it to be easy but it went much better than I hoped, that is no complications. I am losing in slow increments but at least I'm losing! Feeling great too, hopefully getting off by meds by next visit to my surgeon.

    Call me Miss Organized.....

You will be glad you put the work in - less time in the kitchen and less time to snack! I also bought fresh fruit strawberries peaches, etc. blend a few in your shakes and they will become different favors, as vanilla and chocolate become boring after while . Wishing you success on your surgery and weight loss????????????
  8. Is it just my imagination or is this a repost from several days ago?
  9. Nurse Going to Mexico give yourself some time. You are still in the healing stage and your body is probably holding on to weight and fluid from surgery. Immediately after surgery my weight loss was in literally tenths of a pound. Then it stopped for several days. Just stay with your program of getting as much "protein first" and water in. Try to stay away from the scale a few days. Measurements can go down without significant weight loss. Pretty soon you'll be losing at a more rapid pace. Head hunger is just that, your head wants and craves things you used to eat , but your stomach is so small it can't hold much food. I ate past my restriction a couple of times and that made my brain get the message to quit eating a bite or two earlier cause it's sooooo uncomfortable. Pain meds make it harder to sense the restriction too. You can do this- just stay on track ????
  10. Nurse Going to Mexico give us an update! How did your surgery go? Hope all went well. I'm just now breaking a stall very common to those on this board. It took a while ( about 3 weeks).

    My biggest fear with VSG

I am only six weeks out from my VSG and I was having second thoughts too, right up to the minute they wheeled me into the surgical suite. Now, I'm so glad that I did it. I've already lost about 30 lbs counting pre surgery liquid diet. My blood pressure (which was out of control and very high) has now stabilized in the normal range. I no longer have the threat of becoming diabetic. My knees have stopped hurting. There are so many NSV ( non scale victories) that weight loss is secondary ( though I look forward to that too!) I feel more energetic with this weight off. Anyone who says this is easy is a fool! It requires paying attention to eating habits, food choices, exercising, just as any diet, but it does give you restriction in the amount and type of food you eat. I also think it takes a lot of planning in order to be successful with VSG because if you just eat like you've always eaten, you will gain weight back. I researched, talked to other VSg patients and looked at a lot of utubes to find out what the ups and downs were. Like any surgery, results vary and it should be a carefully thought out decision. I practiced my diet long before the surgery too, just to get on the right track. Hope you have a great success with your WLS!

    Isopure Disgusting!

Everyone has different taste preferences. I actually do like the grape flavored isopure and was glad to have something that wasn't a smoothie or a shake. I sipped on it throughout my work day and anytime I felt myself wanting to snack in order to get my protein in.
  14. I have been having temperature issues since sleeve surgery on May 14th. Yesterday came home from work and got my heating pad out because I felt such a hard chill and nothing warmed me up, not hot liquids, more clothes, nothing. I decided to take my temp and discovered I had a fever (99.8). Called my surgeon and she thinks I might have a little bug or something but didn't relate to the surgery. It nevere occurred to me that I might be sick, just put it off to aftermath of the sleeve.

    Horrible Rash

My doctor was watching for shingles although I didn't get the rash, I had the burning nerve pain. It tends to break out when the body is under stress. Go to WebMD .com and look at the pics to see if yours is like that. There are a few creams that help with the rash, an a drug called Gabapentin that can help with discomfort but it may take several weeks to clear. When you have the rash be careful because the fluid from the sores carries the shingles ( chicken pox) virus. I hope you don't have it because it is painful with a burning sensation- ????that can make your sleeve recovery unpleasant.
  17. Wonderful to find this community. I'm 61 amd was got the gastric sleeve on 5/14/15 just going into my 4th week now. I've lost 22 lbs and still learning to trust my sleeve. It's kind weird how my head tells me I'm still hungry but my stomach wont let me eat. Just had a check up and doctor said shes very happy with my progress. I can now begin to exercise, and she has cleared me to swim. I went yesterday and found out how out of shape I am! I was exhauste after about 30 minutes of walking. Any way, looking forward to following all of you through this journey.

    Calling All Sixties!

Hi Fellow Sleevers! I've been on this site since my sleeve on 5/14/15 and hoping we can revive ongoing conversation ( some of the posts here are older). I'm guessing many of you have been sleeved for a while or already met your goals. Any new sixtyish sleevers or going to be sleevers out there? Let me report in: I have had a 22 lb weight loss ( sometimes swings back and forth a few tenths of a lb) including liquid diet. the weight loss isn't fast for me but it is consistent, and I'm thrilled to have hit Onederland last week! Some of the best side benefits so far are not being hungry, blood pressure is lower, knees don't hurt, and clothing that was tight is almost falling off now. Went clothes shopping yesterday and that was frustrating! Although my current clothes look sloppy-loose, I can't yet fit into the next size down:-( Spent the afternoon trying and failing. so finally just went and got a mani pedi and called it a day. Any of you more experienced sleevers want to comment on your weight loss and how long it took to go down in sizes? How did you manage the in between times and impatience with size?? Would love to revive our chat asupport group for the Sixties!

    Back pain? From weight loss.

I am 16 days out of my surgery date and I have also developed a muscle spasm type pain in my shoulder blade area. I never thought about my shifting weight causing that but it makes sense doesn't iit? I have been taking my PrescriptionTylenol to help with pain, and I' walking as prescribed. The pain is sometimes very intense and has a burning sensation ( nerve pain) accompanying it. I'm due for post op follow up on Tuesday and this is definitely on my discussion list!

    One month post op

Hi, I'm new to this site too. I had VSG surgery on May 14th, weighed 216, now I am post surgery 16 days. The good news is I hit Onederland this week, where I haven't been in 3-4 years. The weight loss is thrilling, however the learning curve of the sleeve has been difficult. As several of you have said it is hard to get in water and protein. I went back to work last week, and now I wish I d had an extra week or so to recover. I don' have much energy, even though I am walking and taking vitamins. I guess it's a process to get the new way of eating down. I am glad to meet some fellow-sleevers. We can get through this together!

    Calling All Sixties!

just curious, I've seen several people say that the 60s plus doesn't post that much. Could anyone tell me why? Too busy, don't think it's important, doesn't find it helpful? Let me know! Thanks.
