    Dr in Dallas or Irving

Dr. David Kim at Kim Bariatrics was my surgeon. Not only is he an amazing surgeon but his office staff is amazing. He has an office in Frisco and Colleyville. It is definitely worth going for the free consult. Like ironpoorer mentioned Dr. Frenzel is good (he is the surgeon I started out with) but switched due to his inadequate staff. I'm very happy with my final decision!
  2. Hello everyone! So I was sleeved at 6:30 am this morning (8/03/15) and I am already back home! Everything went wonderful! No gas pain and feel pretty good. Worst thing right now is a sore throat from the breathing tube! I am walking, walking, walking....sipping, sipping sipping. Thanks to everyone on this site I feel like I was well prepared! So scoot over peeps...make room for me on the losers bench!

Gastric Sleeve insurance coverage in TX?

I have UHC through my employer and it does cover weightloss surgery. I did not use insurance though as I didn't want to wait through the six months supervised diet. My cash pay price in the Dallas/Ft Worth area was less than 5K. Best decision of my life!
  4. United Healthcare. I wound up going with Dr. Kim and it was the best decision of my life! I had a hiatal hernia so I went the cash route for the sleeve surgery which really speed the process up (insurance was billed for my hernia surgery). My surgery date was 8/03/15 and I am down 90 lbs as of today. If you are looking for insurance advice I would reach out to your insurance provider. Each insurance policy is different, even within the same insurance provider.
  5. Living in the DFW area I have too many choices for a surgeon! I am hoping to have the gastric sleeve and will be paying cash (insurance covers it but don't want to wait 6 months to get things going). I meet with Dr Kim last week and loved him and his staff! Was ready to pull the trigger but thought I should visit with a few more surgeons before making a decision. I have an appointment scheduled with Dr Clayton Frenzel this Friday and then appointments with Dr. Nick Nicholson and Scott Stowers next week. Has anyone used these surgeons and if so do you recommend? Please feel free to share if you had a negative experience as well. I have seen lots of comments about Dr Kim (good and bad) but no so much about the other doctors. Any input would be appreciated!

    Army

Just saw this same conversation in my private Facebook group with my surgeons office. They were saying the military would not accept you if you have had gastric sleeve or bypass. Not 100% positive that this is fact, but according to a few of those people it is true.

    Dr. Kim in Texas

Also, what part of Oklahoma are you in? If possible I would suggest coming to the DFW area one day and meet with two or three surgeons. I actually interviewed three doctors before making my decision and I am so glad I did!

    Dr. Kim in Texas

Not sure about overnight stays. I would suppose they have some plan for people who were not ready to be released but I have never heard of anyone needing to be admitted overnight. No dehydration issues at all. They have precise instructions on how many ounces you have to drink each hour. It really was overall a painless, easy experience for me but know that each situation for each person is different.

    Out patient gastric sleeve?

I had my surgery around 6 am in the morning and was released around 1 pm that afternoon. Was perfectly fine/comfortable/healthy. Took pain meds for less than 48 hours and was pretty much 85-90% within 5 days. It was an amazing experience with zero complications/regrets!

    Dr. Kim in Texas

I am local but I do know they welcome/work with traveling patients. Dr Kim has his own surgical center. It is an amazing facility with a staff that caters to bariatric patients only. My surgery started around 6 am in the morning and I was released around 1 pm the same day. Surgery was on a Monday and by Wednesday I was no longer taking pain meds. By that Saturday I would say I was 85-90% back to normal and was shopping and going to the movies like any other weekend! Wouldn't trade my experience for anything!

    Dr. Kim in Texas

Had the inverted gastric sleeve with Dr Kim this past August. Best decision I ever made. Down 80 pounds! He is an amazing doctor and the office staff is incredible. They have an amazing support group as well. I would not have been as successful without them. Dr Kim also has the hernia program available as well (which is what I did). I started out with Dr Frenzel but his office staff was inept and what a blessing it turned out to be as I couldn't be any happier with Dr Kim and his staff!

    Click coffee protein drink?

I use both Click and Chike! I love them both!

    Eating out

I have a card that my surgeon provided, haven't used it once. I travel extensively for work and have yet to see anything suitable from the kids menu. Typically the appetizer menu has much better options. Most restaurants also offer a salad option with a protein portion option (salmon, steak, chicken).

When do you get a date

Depends on your requirements, surgeon, etc. I would call your surgeons office and ask.

    Dr. Frenzel Arlington/Dallas

I was originally going to use Dr. Frenzel. He did my EGD and I was very impressed with him as a surgeon but unfortunately his office staff was not up to par! I went with another surgeon (Dr. David Kim) and it was the best decision of my life. Not only is he a wonderful surgeon but his office staff and post-op support group is amazing! Wouldn't trade my decision for a million bucks!!

    Surgery tomorrow!

You have got this!! I think most people have a little nervous butterflies and doubt right before surgery. I am only 3 weeks post op and can tell you it is the best decision I ever made. Good luck tomorrow!

    I tried insure nutrition

@@cdaddy I didn't want to seem like I was being negative on your post...but yes I have heard nothing but bad things about them Personally I have a friend who did this and the next thing she new they had billed 110K to her insurance. She had a cap of 100K with her insurance for the plan year so insure sent her a bill for 10K! They "negotiated" down to 2K with her. She is trying to seek legal help but in the meantime they keep calling and harassing her. They even called a Vice President at her company and asked him to have her call him about a debt. She was horrified! I hope you have better luck!

    I tried insure nutrition

Did you check with your insurance company to see if they had a cap on this? I know someone who just got a bill from Insure for $2000.00 because their insurance only covered "up to" a certain amount.

    Good luck all!

    Cash pay?

@tbaby10. Good luck with your surgery. I am also a Dr Kim patient (will be two weeks out tomorrow) and so far the journey has been amazing! The after support has been wonderful! They have monthly support groups, group activities like workouts and 5K's (registered for my first yesterday) and a Facebook support group. Is your surgery in Frisco at Destiny?

    Cash pay?

@@JenniferP1 My surgeon did an EGD to check for a hernia. I believe that is the process/procedure that most doctors use.
