Surgery Monday/starving
BrownEyedTxGirl replied to sbg224's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@sbg224. Good luck on Monday! I am having my surgery on Monday as well (4:00 am arrival...yikes!). Just keep sipping broth...that's what I have been doing! Let us know how it goes on Monday! -
I'm still pre-op but I like the CARBmasters milk from Kroger. Was going to attach a photo of the ingredients but can figure out how Per 8 oz it has 60 calories 0 fat 3 carbs - which includes 3 g. of sugar 11 Protein Also lactose free I haven't aquired a taste for almond milk yet...taste wayyyy to sweet for me Not sure if they have Krogers where you are at though! I also like Fairlife nonfat milk, it has a bit more sugar but does have more protein. I have found this brand at most major grocery stores as well as Walmart and target.

I am having the sleeve, a hernia repair and gall bladder removed all at once. You should call and ask your surgeon what the plan is with your hernia. Good luck with your journey! Oh...and as far as stress...I am sure there are people who have experienced it. I don't believe that one behavior is more "normal" than another. I feel nothing but gratitude and excitement!

@@BinIA I met with Dr David Kim, Dr Clayton Frenzel and Dr Nick Nicolson. All three are in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. I would trust any of the three but had to make a final decision. You can google all three and they have websites that show their cash price and what it covers. I totally understand not wanting to travel too far but just thought I would throw it out there as a possible option!

I believe his hernia cash price is around $3995.00. It is my understanding that amount goes towards your total out of pocket. So if you total out of pocket is $3000.00 with you insurance then you wouldn't owe any more. Hope you hear back from them soon! -
does my daughter have to go off steroids before sleeve?
BrownEyedTxGirl replied to Domawa's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
As others advised definitely consult with the surgeon but my surgeon said not steroids two weeks prior and a few weeks after (don't remember the exact amount of time after since I don't take them). But my surgeon pretty much removed all medications and pain reliever two weeks out. -

Hi Shay! We have the same surgery date I am with Dr. Kim but Dr. Nick was in my top three choices...you will be very happy with him. You should call your insurance coordinator at his office and she will give you all the information. The coordinator should have a sheet that lists what you owe Dr. Nick and when, and should also have an estimate of the charges for insurance! Good luck with you journey! -
What state are you in? There are some great doctors in Texas and cash price (all inclusive) runs between $10 - $15K. Also a lot of Texas surgeons do what they call a Hiatal Hernia cash price that can run between $2100 - $5000. Basically if you have a hernia they bill the insurance for the hernia repair and you pay cash for the sleeve portion of the procedure. And yes it is totally legal! Stay positive...I know it's hard but don't give up!!

struggling with liquid diet (August 5th surgery)
BrownEyedTxGirl replied to lauren8486's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am on day 3 and can only have the Protein powder my doctor provided, sugar free Jello and Popsicles, and one cup of broth per day. Day one was way harder than I thought it would be. I wasn't hungry but all the sweet shakes were killing me. Plus I couldn't get the sweet taste out of my mouth no matter how much I brushed or used mouthwash. I have found a few things that have helped me and now on day three I am doing really good! 1. I bought some Folgers individual decaf instant coffee packets. Look like Crystal Light and were $1.00 a box at Target (7 servings in a box). I mix one packet with my shake and add a little sugar free caramel syrup (Torani). It taste like Starbucks to me. I make sure it is ice cold or serve over ice. 2. I drink a few sips of broth after each Protein Shake. Seems to cut the sweet taste from my mouth. 3. Bought Biotene mouthwash and it helps with the sweet taste in my mouth as well. Hang in there...it will get better and be oh so worth it! -
Anyone else having a hard time getting pain meds?
BrownEyedTxGirl replied to Gumpgal's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Wow...never heard of an insurance company that makes you use a certain pharmacy! I was prescribed the same thing. I just tried Target on a whim when I was shopping on Saturday and they did not have it in stock but was able to get it on Monday. There are times when the cash pay is cheaper than using insurance, maybe you could call another pharmacy and ask if they can get it and the cash price. Might be cheaper than running from CVS to CVS. -

@@jaimiec Wish I had some advice for you but luckily I live alone! I removed all foods that I couldn't have from my house. I can't imagine how bad the temptation would be if I had to be around other people eating. My boyfriend plans to stay away for these two weeks...lol. Feel free to reach out to me if you have any struggles...we can get through this together. @@Tazwella ugh that would have been hard to resist, congrats for staying on plan! Once again I am so lucky because I work from home and don't have other people around me eating. Hardest part for me so far today is how sweet the shakes are. I don't like sweets anyway so this is killing me. Would be perfectly happy with just broth but I am supposed to only have one cup a day!! -

BrownEyedTxGirl posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hello everyone! Tomorrow starts my two week pre-op diet. I am allowed 3 - 4 Protein shakes that my doctor provided, sugar free Jello and Popsicles, and 1 cup low sodium chicken broth per day. I'm not nervous about the pre-op diet but just the opposite...I am excited!!! To me it feels like the actual beginning of my journey and I am so excited about the future. Had planned to have a celebration dinner tonight with my BF (that stands for best friend and boyfriend....he had been my best friend for 15+ years and then we started dating over a year ago). Nothing super crazy...just my favorite Mexican food place. Thing is...I have been so excited today that I can't eat!!! Who does that the day before their pre-op diet starts!!! So it's almost 7 pm here and we haven't left for the restaurant as I have no desire to eat! Will someone virtually punch me -
DFW area here! Feel free to add me as a friend!

I am not aware of any free samples but did buy samples of Unjury from their website (they were $1.99 each plus shipping). Also purchased a 10 pack sample of Syntrax Nectar from my bariatric pantry online. You can make a note in their comment section about what favors you want. I loved this as I knew I wouldn't be stuck with flavors I definately wouldn't like. -

Congratulations!!! I am August 3rd too -
Not yet...but I am scheduled for hernia repair, inverted sleeve and gallbladder removal at one time. I have been cautioned though that there is a chance the doctor will not be able to remove my gallbladder due to my liver being too large and that I may have to wait until I lose weight. Hoping we are able to get all done at once!

I met with three different surgeons and they all required it. It was a really easy procedure and that is coming from someone who never had kids because I am terrified of pain/hospitals. I understand not wanting to wait until you meet with the surgeon later this month so maybe you could call his office and ask. Do you have a coordinator that has been assigned to you?
