I must have started early with the scale obsession. I weigh myself daily...if not several times a day. It is like a fascination with my four week old pouch. Everything from how much Water I drink to whether I voided or had a bowel movement seems to affect my weight. So far I haven't thrown up or burped up anything and have not had the dumps people talk about. Sort of good to hear that I am not the only guy with this behavior.

I'm not 100% sure of my goal weight but I'm hoping for under 250lbs but shooting for 220lbs. Despite my being short, I'd be happy at around 175 to 185 Lbs. There is no way I am going to get down to the insurance chart weight of 154. From your posting, you have the right outlook to be successful with your weight loss surgery. Good luck BigDaddy!

Just for Men: How long did it tak you to get your brain and stomach back in syncronization?
Nikasio replied to Nikasio's topic in The Guys’ Room
Richard, Thank you for sharing this. I think I learn more from other people's successes and struggles than I sometimes do my own. I will now keep an even more vigilant eye out for my issues with sugar and wheat. Hopefully some other guys have climbed this mountain and have good news to give us. -
male only Guys, should I worry that my girlfriends 'mud flaps' have grown since WLS surgery?
Nikasio posted a topic in The Guys’ Room
Seems some women lose weight to only find out they may have other issues going on. How should one express concern that her labia minora (mud flaps) have grown since she started losing weight? Since she is trying to hit me up for money for plastic surgery, I'm afraid to bring this topic up since it may not be covered by insurance and cost me more. -

Very good point. Avoiding the topic is a very guy thing to do. I got different advice from lady friends of mine. What I could find online seems to say it is perfectly normal. My married buddies told me the same. And yes ladies, we guys do talk about you as much as you do about us to your girlfriends. Thank you for the guy advice. -
Flapjacks...LOL. I know this is an old topic, but it is both as funny as it is informative. Compression shirts sounds good to me. Gee, do a search for Spanx for men and you'll see a lot of skinny male models wearing the stuff. At some point in my weight loss, I am going to have to pose for a torso shot of my moobs while wearing spanx. It might scare small children though Judging by women's Spanx, there is only so much they can do.

Didn't know you could do that! I am still reading the FITBIT PDF file. I guess I have a reading project tonight. This thing is so much newer and better than the Polar heart rate monitor I bought over ten years ago. Thanks Cube68 -
God bless. You seem to have your heart is in the right place. My reaction to putting a tiny piece of bread in my mouth has switch from must have to disgust. At first I didn't believe my dietician when she told me that some people become disgusted with their problem foods (sugar, wheat, and caffeine) after surgery, but the skinny woman was so right. I am also off all my medications. You make a very good point. It must be more challenging for someone who didn't have to take medication several times a day and measure their blood sugar and blood pressure. I can now walk by a plate of Cookies and not sneak a half dozen of them.

Guys, should I worry that my girlfriends 'mud flaps' have grown since WLS surgery?

LOL. But you posted anyway. You just couldn't resist the subject matter First time I heard the phrase it was two women talking about another women on the PATH train. Found their cruelty to their own gender fascinating. Until then I thought respecting a lady's bodyimage was sacred. Mud flaps don't bother me, I find them fascinating in a medical sort of way and not in a pervert sort of way. Was asking for a man's opinion on how to successfully approach the subject of her taco's health, but instead got a reply from some lady about "Since you would benefit from that correction and it is clearly bothering you, it might make sense that you help her out." Doesn't bother me 'cause at some point they will just tickle my golf balls more. But knowing my GF, she is going to obsess about it like everything else along with her revision surgery.. Sincerely, cheap bastard -
Gents, Is it really a competition thing? I think men are just a little more regimented. I'm use to following Doctor's and nurse's orders. I am going through the jealousy stage that my first four weeks have been going better for me than for my GF. I've lost more weight in the last few weeks than in her last few months. From observation I am amazed she hasn't popped staples. She can now gulp down a 14 oz Muscle Milk or Lee Labrada shake in one shot. Personally, 8oz and my stomach says "YOU ARE FULL NOW FAT BOY!" I'm doing my best to follow the dieticians directions, but she's on some different frequency. I wish you good luck and successful results.

Guys, what do you consider your ideal pants size ?
Nikasio replied to Alex Brecher's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Amazing! When Alex asks for only men to reply, the ladies listen. From these optimistic posts, I should have held on to my 1980's vintage 501's and Jordache jeans. So if I used the previously mentioned formula, I should have a 33 inch waste. Gee, I don't remember being that size since Junior High School. -

Gents, I just bought my FITBIT today and am amused at all the tracking it does. Got the cheap FLEX on sale at the sadly to be defunct Radio Shack. Short of asking for a urine sample, it seems to do what I need. So from the sound of it, you guys are recommending MyFitnessPal. Since I've been buying my supplements from BodyBuilding.com I was tempted to try their fitness programs. Too advanced for a guy who hasn't benched 275 since high school. Will take your word for it and try it out. Thanks. -
Guys, Only four weeks out and I can so relate to this. I was XXXL and am now once again wearing XXL. Even the XXL's are starting to feel loose. Girlfriend is jealous that I lost my fat ass faster than her. It seems guys lose that area faster than women do. Some women I know don't seem to budge in that area. So far my man-boobs have been cooperating and are now down to a size that seems they are no longer in business for themselves. It is nice knowing that I will soon not be paying extra at Target or Walmart for the larger sizes.

Gents, great advice. I am only four weeks out and am experiencing the same issue with my CPAP. My mouth gets dry and pops open at night too. Just had a sleep study done. Didn't have to spend two nights at a clinic either. My Principal Care Physician gave me a tiny portable monitoring device. I am waiting on the results to see if I can drop the pressure down from 16 to something more reasonable. Apparently there are cheat-code websites that tell you how to do the CPAP settings yourself without having to waste a day waiting for the CPAP provider to pay a visit and have it done.

I am four weeks out since my surgery and do not miss coffee, tea, beer, bread or sugar. I've even stopped craving sugar. I know I can't have pizza. So I am subsisting on Protein shakes, broths, and just started some pureed foods. I was a diet soda addict and drank copious amounts of coffee and splenda / truvia. Pizza and beer are the last things on my mind.

Been unaccountable for to long, back on the horse
Nikasio replied to swjtlongdrive's topic in The Guys’ Room
Congratulations. Yes, respect the band. Otherwise you might become a candidate for revision surgery and/or have to convert to something like the sleeve. As far as some doctors maybe concerned if you cannot control yourself with the band, you will probably end up hurting yourself with the sleeve. It is not that you can't get a surgeon to do it, but they do worry that you might ruin there low leak stats. Between family and friends, I see so much food cheating going on it is like a sad remake of the movie 'Fatso.' Biggest culprit is sugar and wheat. Which I can relate to since I am addicted to the stuff. So good luck. -
Guys, should I worry that my girlfriends 'mud flaps' have grown since WLS surgery?
Nikasio replied to Nikasio's topic in The Guys’ Room
I was asking for a guys perspective. I've been with her through many diets, revision surgery and her constant 2 AM anxiety attacks. Gotten enough advice from her girlfriends. Thanks anyway. -
Didn't hurt at all. Though I did make the mistake of shaving myself the night before surgery. I was only warned about the shaving the day of surgery. That gave me a case of itchy folliculitis after surgery. I have a bottle of pain meds I didn't have to use. It must be different for everyone cause all the ladies have told me they were miserable. Followed the nurses instructions to the letter and walked off the CO2 gas they inflate your belly with. So I didn't have the fake heart attack or chest pains people so often get after bariatric surgery. The two people my surgeon operated on before me didn't seem to want to get out of bed and kept buzzing the poor nurses. I only got pain meds twice because the nurses noticed that they had skipped my Heparin blood thinner shots. So if you behave yourself and follow the nurses instructions, they will let you out within 24 hours for good behavior. Otherwise you will have to stay an extra day listening to IV alarms and people whining. The doctors who popped their heads in to say hello told me the surgery went perfectly...I am now waiting to see their drive-by bills.
