    Lunch ideas?

Hey there - I do like refried beans with cheese and also like to get the boca spicy chicken patties, top with a little low-sugar marinara from Sprouts or Whole Foods and melt a little low fat cheese - sorta like a chicken parmesan. Have also been known to steam an eggplant after slicing into rounds, and top with low sugar marinara with some ground chicken and 1 Tablespoon of fat free cottage cheese with a little cheese melted on top - like an eggplant parmesan. I have made baby quiches with no crust - that have spinach, low fat cottage cheese a few mushrooms and low fat mozzarella. A slice of that is nice and protein-y with veggies too.

    Well, here goes ...

The body chemistry does change for people and for some women this can cause an odor. I would suggest talking to your doc. Agree Mom26 regarding wearing cotton undies and I also do not recommend Summer's Eve as it can throw off the chemistry too.... See what your doc says. Frequently due to the Protein we eat, there is an odor to urine that is stronger too. Good Luck
  4. Great for you. My sleeve has been a great decision for me too. Congratulations on your decision and best of luck to you.

    Question

The staples stay with you forever. It works well. They are made to be essentially inert to the body. No allergies or concerns that I have seen in the literature with them. The staple line can break, but it is not common if you follow your plan properly.

    Vitamins?

For a multi Vitamin, I can do the Centrum chewable. They are less expensive, easier to find and do have the Iron already in there. I take 2 per day. Kim

    Needing recipes

I am a bit farther down the road than you. My surgery was in May, that being said, I do enjoy refried Beans with a little cheese, love fat free cottage cheese with a little tomato sauce over steamed eggplant finished with a bit of low fat mozzarella or sprinkle of parmesan. I can do veggies now so have been loving spinach and mushrooms in eggs like little baby quiches. Do enjoy a nice tuna salad too. Have been loving squash and zucchini too. I do eat chicken, fish and turkey too, but am embracing veggies now. I will get some of my recipes with directions together and shoot them over to you tomorrow. Kim

    2 years post op question

You may find this drastic - but I am betting that if you went back to a pre-surgery diet of Protein shakes and green veggies only with a little chicken or fish that after about 3 days your cravings would go way down. You could do it for a week or so as though you are shrinking your liver down. I am worried about the sleeve 'growing' too, and would think that this would maybe help you get re-focused. Likely you would drop about 4-5 pounds in a week which would be a good jumpstart. I have a good friend who had her surgery 3 years ago and did this. It helped her tremendously. Best of luck
  12. Best of luck to you. Many have had revision surgeries and there is no reason you should feel ashamed. The band did not work well for you, you have accepted that and have made the decision to move on to a procedure that will yield better results for you. Be thankful and feel proud that you have made this decision. You will do great!
  13. I do not love them, but Isopure may be an option. Not sure if you may be allergic to whey? If so, get a non-whey Protein... Best of luck to you!

    Refusals?

There are several reasons this could happen: 1) Heart cannot be cleared for surgery to happen safely (anaesthesia concerns) 2) Person is unable to commit to changes that will be required for after the surgery. 3) Psych eval does not indicate that patient is a good candidate. 4) Severe adhesions/scarring make surgery too high a risk. 5) Patient will not stop smoking making surgery a risk due to higher incidence of a bleed, etc. Not sure why you are asking, but there are some very real reasons a person may not be a good candidate.
  15. You will feel better each day. Glad you are on the other side. Best wishes for a quick recovery and steady weight loss!
  16. I do not eat them. There was a little pasta in a soup I ate and it grew and made me uncomfortable and I got sick. I do not want to be sick, so do not eat these things. Don't do potatoes either.... Just too dense.
  17. Glad to hear you got it checked. Hang in there! Kim
  18. There is one other odd trick I have found to distract myself. I do not know why this works, but for me it does. Smell cleaning products like gain or lemon-y scented cleaners or nicely scented fabric softeners. Go ahead and laugh! I do at myself all the time. The thing is I associate the smell of Downey with one of my grandmothers and thinking about her lovely line dried sheets makes me feel good, which in turn ups the serotonin in my brain, which in turn makes me feel even better, which makes me not want to eat. I don't know, you could give it a shot. Mop and tidy to your heart's content. Trust me, it is cheaper too!

    People's expectations of you...

If the cousin is in your home, you could give them a nice list of hotels in the area and tell them they are welcome to stay at one of them if they are not going to be respectful to you. There is no excuse to be ugly. I understand this may seem harsh, but that level of rudeness is unacceptable.
  20. I am sorry you have struggled. I would suggest going to a liquid diet for at least 4-5 days. Protein shakes, Water, water, and more water. The only way I can not crave sugary and carby things is to not eat them.... Maybe then go back to soft foods/mushies like low fat cottage cheese, 2 oz tuna packets, etc. Unfortunately this will be hard and take a lot of discipline. I would suggest creating a reward system for yourself for each day - a new book, a lipstick, something cheap and fun that is not food-related. I know exactly how hard this is. Are you exercising at all currently? Can you do a major clean out of your fridge and pantry? I wish you all the best.
  21. Hello there - To answer your question - My docs felt the sleeve would be a much better option for me due to the fact that I already have some pretty significant malabsorption issues. Have been on B-12 injections due to my intrinsic factor not working. Also was the only person many of my docs had seen that actually developed scurvy even with eating fruits and veggies - they believed that making me more mal-absorptive would not be a good thing and I agreed. Sleeve has been an adjustment, but not a terrible one. Due to some of my other meds, it made sense to leave intestines alone for the most part. I hope that you come to a decision that works best for you. I know you can do this! Kim

    Pregnant 6 months after sleeve

First - Congratulations! Second - You should be eating normal food now and if you are getting in your Protein and Vitamins and Water you have an excellent chance of a healthy pregnancy and healthy delivery. You will want to speak to your OB and Bariatrician regarding nutrition and your current level of exercise. As others have said, this does happen fairly often. Fortunately you should be well healed internally from the surgery and having lost what you have will help with the delivery.
  24. Hey there - I have SLE. I had the sleeve done. I have not had to do oral steroids, but do take Enbrel, Methotrexate and Plaquenil for my disease. I have done well am down 75 pounds. As to the rewarding yourself thing.. frankly I have switched to jewelry instead of food. I worked for a jeweler as a part time job for years, and I set goals and get a new piece when I reach the goal. It works for me. Also like to get new lipsticks - don't have hunger at this point with the sleeve, but made the decision to not reward with food.... Good luck to you!
