Your support person
KindaFamiliar replied to anjelikaj's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Support person? What is this support person of which you speak? I spent three nights (op Wed - out Sat) in hospital after the op and then a week at the coast by myself... I would actually have been ok to go back to work on the Monday but had already organized the leave... There's a fair chance you'll be surprised at how quickly you'll be up and about.. Also, bear in mind that I was sleeved at 560 pounds so I was not what you'd consider 'mobile'... -
I'm 13 months post surgery and still don't have a goal weight... I'm guessing it'll be similar to when I started wanting to lose weight... I woke up one morning and thought "It's time"... So I'm guessing I'll now just wake up one morning and go "I'm there..." Don't worry too much about the destination yet... Just make sure the journey is a worthwhile one... Good luck to you...

My next (second tattoo) is exactly that... It'll be my starting weight in Roman numerals with "Never again..." in Latin underneath... I 'drew' it up just under year ago and have been carrying it around in my wallet since then... I said I'd have it done once I hit the 100kg (220lb) lost mark... Well, that's come and gone but the thing is still in my wallet and not on me... I'll try to post a pic over the weekend... I thought about putting somewhere visible (I have a forearm tatt on my left arm) but have decided that it's going on my chest... My decision was thus as it's really for me, and not necessarily a public thing...

Fitting in Exercise
KindaFamiliar replied to Author Andrea's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So walk... Get yourself a regimen... Eat properly... Take your Vitamins... Only you can do it... It certainly aint gonna do itself... And it aint rocket surgery... EDIT - I hate when the 'v' word becomes a live link... -
More critical of facial features after WLS?
KindaFamiliar replied to lauraellen80's topic in The Gals' Room
If this wasn't the girly bit part of the forum, I'd post the following - This thread confuses me.., And in its confusingness (it's a word, people!!), it pleases me... You see, I'm finding comfort in the fact that someone who is CLEARLY an attractive person can be so f**cked up by what they've experienced in the past that they aren't really sure (or aware) that they are, in fact, a good looking person... It makes me think that there may be a chance, no matter how slim, that, despite how I may feel about my somewhat rough head, I might actually be, at the very worst, a normal, reasonable looking guy... No, this is not a fishing trip... I'm not looking for compliments and/or a stroking of my ego... This is a genuine reaction to a thread that I clicked on accidentally and then found myself unable to stop reading it... But as I said, this is the "Ladies' Zone" - so I'd not be so bold as to invade the space and say any of the above... Thanx for not reading this... Kinda -
to snack, or not to snack?
KindaFamiliar replied to GSleeve822's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
For me (I repeat, for ME) my snacking is relative to my caloric output... As I'm currently going to the gym twice a day and doing cardio, I'll have a small snack mid morning and mid afternoon... Nothing too serious... A few nuts... Some gluten free wild brown rice crackers (they're MUCH tastier than they sound!!).. If I'm doing weights, I'll throw in a Protein shake instead... If I skip the gym (like I did this afternoon... I know, I know...) then I'll not snack at all... There are many theories floating around about when to snack, if at all and what to snack on... They're all correct and they're all wrong... Try a few out and find the one that works for you and your body... For me, it's all about common sense and balance... If you're exercising more, you need more fuel... Not too much, or you're wasting your time... Good luck with it... -
No rhyme or Reason
KindaFamiliar replied to sbg224's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The human body is kinda f**ked up... It'll do what it wants, when it wants... We've just gotta make sure we're doing the 'right things' to give it every chance.. -
Looking for a support buddy, my age.
KindaFamiliar replied to jam1595's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm certainly not in your age group but just wanted to say that, until you find yourself a suitable buddy, don't be shy about posting any questions or concerns you may have... There's a wealth of knowledge here and it's all readily available... Good luck to you mate... Kinda... -
Delays suck balls!!! I was delayed twice... Once was due to funding (I had no money) and the other was due to my health (I, like, died and stuff)... There's absolutely nothing that can make you feel any better about a delay... You've made the decision to 'fix' yourself and you JUST WANNA GET STARTED!!! So I'll not try to placate you or make you feel better... I'll simply let you know that you're by no means alone, and that no matter what happens, it's soooo worth the wait... Kinda..

Kept up with the kids...
KindaFamiliar replied to cookarue's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I don't have kids, so I've no real idea how you might feel... But I'm in a surprisingly supportive mood so I thought I'd say well done... Well done!!! -

Staying Motivated
KindaFamiliar replied to Inner Surfer Girl's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I've not read the article, but if it says in there somewhere that "catching the eye of an incredible and beautiful young woman, who is well and truly out of your league but inexplicably still seems to like you - despite you being you" will keep you motivated, it's spot on... Just sayin'... -
iPhone app reloading issue

Buy a Samsung... It may not help but at least you'll not be an iPhone owner any longer... -
What if I can't do it?
KindaFamiliar replied to DirtyyMelodies's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Nah... You'll be right... We ALL have shitty days... We ALL f**k our s**t up at times... Just get up, shake yourself off and move on... Look for bright sides... In fact, here's your first - you've already lost however many pounds the boyfriend weighed, so that's a great start!!! This is YOU time... YOU!!! Screw what anyone else wants of you... You gotta do what YOU gotta do... Find support here if you need it.. But don't get down on yourself for your cravings... Congratulate yourself EVERY TIME you don't cave.. You got this... You're all over it like a fat kid on a cupcake... Kick its arse!!! Plus - How could you go wrong with a cracker of a nickname like that??!?! Good luck to you... -
I was one of the 'lucky' ones. I was 560lb with NO other health issues.. I was just FAT... My surgery was deferred twice - once was financial, the other was health related (not obesity related)... Like everyone else, my only regret is that I didn't do this sooner... I've not concerned myself with the opinions/thoughts/support of friends/colleagues etc... If they're there for me then so be it... And if they're not, I'm ok with that too... The reality is, I did this for ME... I've rarely sought support or advice (outside of this INCREDIBLY HELPFUL forum)... I've rarely needed to... I can't recall any time that I could consider a 'low'... It's all been positive for me... Like others before have said, if you want to know anything, just ask... You'll generally get an honest and up front answer... Good luck to you mate...

I do love a good poo story...

You used the word "settle". Is that how it feels? If so, I'd say the answer is pretty obvious.. You also say you "don't have the heart to tell him that you just want to date"... Is there someone else you have in mind? Or is it just in case there's someone better around the corner? Do you "have the heart" to string him along for a while and then ditch him when someone else comes along? Please note that these are merely questions, not accusatory enquiries... My opinion is that you can find someone just about anywhere and at just about any time... They can just appear in your life and change things forever... No warning... No games... No bullsh*t... And if it feels right, then it's right!!! People spend too much time worrying about what may be... Let's spend some time focusing in what IS... Enjoy the moment, people... Because who the f**k knows what'll happen when this moment ends... Sorry, I got a little off track... You know what you want to do in your heart... Just do it!!! Worry about the consequences if and when.. That's what I'm doing!!!

I eat "Chinese" food all the time... Most nights in fact... As I struggle with my protein digestion, I'm still on shakes (just over a year out) every day... So I have three shakes a day as well as some 'Chinese veges in garlic sauce' mixed in with some 'Chicken and sweet corn soup'... I have this for lunch and dinner 5 days a week... It's probably a little high in sodium and fat, but as it's pretty much all "eat" during the week, everything seems to balance out nicely... I'm still losing after 12 months and am more than happy (most of the time) with my progress... So in short, 'Chinese food', like virtually anything else, is fine... Just make sure you keep an eye on that sodium and fat... They can be sneaky f**kers...
