July Sleevers! Let's chat!
laguerr13 replied to beuTwithin's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Every diet is specific to what dr. u are with, my pre op was 10 days of 2 proteins, and small dinner, but it really prepares you for afterward, the biggest 3 things I can tell u since I am post op since june10th is 1,don't get discouraged, your body is used to eating a lot, eventually u adjust. And your new stomach size will help. 2, learn to sip now, it was a big problem for me, but if u start training your body and mind to sip it will get u ahead, I am at 50-60oz now. 3, right after surgery when you are alert enough walk walk walk walk............... As much as you can, you will feel so much better and even better the second day. I was at 388lbs in January, 362.2 on my first Dr. visit in April, 346 on June 10th surgery, and Friday at my dr. Appt I was at 324.0, and 6 waist sizes down, put yourself and body into it and don't look back, wait for the small bumps in the road but don't sweat them, it gets much better. -
Vitamins and protein are great, but it's like my dietician told me, you have to remember all these changes are very new and you have been this way for years, so even though you may be ready, your body has to catch up, it is used to getting a certain amount of calories and food for years, and now your telling it no, so fatigue is very likely for the first few weeks, I fought through it, and I'm vein back in the gym 3x a week, but I still have my dizzy spells from time to time
-
It wasn't easy I had to tell him specifically what I would do at the gym, I told him I used to be in the gym a lot and had experience, so I told him In detail : treadmill, and light upper body circuit training, shoulders, chest, back, bicep, tricep, try that with your doc, we are not all under the same guidelines for after surgery, I'm gonna try and advocate today for soft foods, even though I have less than 5 more days of full liquid, some people are on soft after week one!

I was sleeved on June 10th and couldn't be happier, I started at 388lbs in January and at my first Dr's appt was at 262.2, on my surgery was at 349, today is my follow up and I've been following everything I am supposed to, and at the Gym 3x a week, so I'm hoping I'm at somewhere between 320-330, that would be 55-60 lbs total lost since I began my journey, I am using milestones and not so much the scale, it was definitely a boost to have lost 6 waist sizes so far,for those looking to do this I say, just make sure your heart and mind are into too, and the rest is just working at it, also make long term goals and change your dietary habits, this is ehT helps you maintain, and it is true, use this as a tool and not a quick fix!

I never had any fear after I researched it, but initially, yes lots of fear, it's healthy, u have nothing to worry about, try to watch some "You Tube" and research on your surgery
-
Wow pretty close, I as 398 last December, down to 388 by January, 362.2 First dr appt, 346 on wed the 10th, 9 days post o today probably at 322-326, I want this, already at the gym
-
That's pretty cool I couldn't tell the difference between where the pain came from , hernia or gastric? I'm all hurt pretty bad
-
Way to go Trialatty
-
I would kill over a scrambled egg, I am 8 days post op and started full liquid yesterday, 12,days to my first scrambled eggs, I'll probably have tissue near me for the tears!
-
Let me know how that goes as far as diet routine
-
Missed u tin, I am 7 out and just began full liquid today for two weeks, and I don't even care, went in my closet yesterday and all my shirts even the smaller ones were loose fitting, I went back to gym yesterday and it went well, my only drawback is that I called and got permission to take Mirolax, I think between the time I started this tip today maybe 50-60 lbs lost, I am being conservative cause I wanna enjoy the moment when I go to my Dr.'s appt on the 26th
-
Day 7 post op, very little nausea, go to full liquids today, no pain, incision tape is coming off, only have tenderness in one, I went back to the gym for the first time yesterday to see where I'm at and get into a routine but I did so well I had to pull myself out so I wouldn't hurt myself, I guess at this point I am clear of getting buyers remorse, I would do this again in a second if asked, the funny part was that out of everything I experienced, I got emotional yesterday when I went in the closet and every single shirt(even the smaller ones) fit! Loose! , I even have pants that I am certain I will fit into within a month or so, I believe that from the time I started my journey in January 388 lbs to my first dietician visit 362.2 to my surgery on 6/10/15 346lbs to today maybe at 328 or so, more than 60 lbs lost and I'm just starting, always at the back of my head I say to myself "this is a tool, learn to use it, and use it well through life!"

Lol wow I feel loved, sorry guys I should have been more specific, I too had a hernia, but on the day of my discharge from hospital I explained to Dr. My intentions of going to the gym, he asked to explain what I would be doing, and he said to pull away as soon as my body said to, so as I promised my wife I did a very light workout, treadmill, then circuit training focusing on my back shoulders chest and ended with legs, so when I go back on Thursday it will be treadmill, bicep, triceps, legs, no free weights or things like lunges, and squats, until 2 months out, I have been doing weight training for the last 20 years or so and I is the only thing other than swimming that I can be good about doing, that is how I know to gauge myself , it's very difficult when you've got 20lbs, and your mind and body wanna do 70 or 80lbs, but yeah I don't wanna go back to the hospital

Water with meals ?
laguerr13 replied to BigHarleyGuy1's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I asked my dietician since there were so many answers and what she told me made more sense than anything else, a normal stomach can hold lots of food even expand to hold two pounds or more but losing 2/3 of it means you have only so much room to hold anything, so at first you want to try to get in your fluids, about 64oz per day, then you want to make sure that when you get back to normal foods you get all the nutrients you can especially protein, you can't do as well if you are taking bites and swigs of liquid at the same time, it's not like your going to implode or be cast into hell, it's just that food is more important at this point, I am a very big take a bite then a drink kinda guy, but I am learning I had tomato soup last night and caught myself taking a sip of tea twice, so I pushed it aside and when I finished my soup waited 30min then enjoyed my tea, no the diet police never broke in my door ! Lol -
You'll do great Roseluv3, it's a small price to pay for a better life, it'll also make it that much easier to tolerate your post op diet, hydration is a great ally, or your enemy if you ignore it, learn to sip, not later but now, sip sip sip

Hey don't worry bout the nausea , when you are coming out of it, just remember these words " walk as soon as you can" it shouldn't hurt as much as you think, I awaited til after my nite nurse was on duty and let me unhook from all the machines, the time I started to take off til I got back into bed was an amazing difference, I started to release gas, and the nausea was almost gone halfway through the nite, u did have a bad nite here at home yesterday, restlessness and nightmares attributed to the anesthesia and could go inn for up to a week, but walk walk walk
-
You've got this, remember water us your best friend right now, and yeah it was tense every time I had to do an X-ray, EKG, etc. but I realized that the only thing that can stop it is you, your moving in a forward momentum, slow cautious deliberate steps, and avoid the poop, the poop is never good!

Well I do plan for cheat days in the future, just wanna make sure my mind is in line for it or I won't even try it, although we have similar stuff here in San Antonio, I don't plan to go that extreme , I think if I got a burger that big I would eat in 5 or 6 portions and skip the fries, then do about 5 days of protein shakes for 2 meals, yup gotta purge before confession, just wanna get healthy right now I guess

Surgery scheduled for June 15
laguerr13 replied to grandmaofone's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Please remember as much as it seems like it's gonna hurt its not as bad as you think, as soon as you think you can do the walking, it's the only reason I was able to leave the next day, it makes you stretch out and makes the gas pain tolerable, I also had a peculiar sure effect of everything they brought me seeming too sweet, I did excellent with the water and ice chips, don't try to hold off on your pain meds, take them as often as you need them, I also asked the next morning to let me start taking my home pain meds and get me off the morphine, I hope this helps and good luck, people on here have stood by me through everything and now I want to pay it forward, so if this helps anyone it's what matters to me! -
From SA also just had it on the 10th and doing better than ever

Does anyone have BMI of Texas?

Tin my wire is freakin a little since I said I wanna go back to the gym tomorrow, but I promised to keep it fun and very light I just wanna get the routine back for now, I think I will take a small water bottle so I'm not tempted to chug
-
That is awesome Hopeand Agony, u will be fine, just start making adjustments to your mind, put yourself in a zone so to speak, I did and everything went much better than expected, even the pain, it's the little things that may annoy you later, being stuck in a hospital bed, being woken up at all hours, and the thirst , at least it was like that for me
