    Normal foods

I wasn't brought up with healthy habits, and even kept a lot of my bad habits up due to time constraints, so even though I am on "Normal" foods I wanted my changes to be forever so I have learned to read nutritional values, memorize carb and protein amounts in foods, and even taught myself to use a Wok to stir fry, and grill indoors, a change recipes and alter them to fit my diet and I stay away from fast food, I learn a lot on Google about cooking, and and even found some websites that give bariatric friendly restaurants, and I do give myself 1 cheat day per month

    Mirror, Mirror...

I had to see my therapist ( it was an advantage that I work at a psych hospital and have lots of friends) twice, first I cried with my Dr.friend when I had to admit where my bad habits started, and I felt bad cause my mom is gone, but the other two times u was concerned with how I would feel when I met new people and they liked me, then the second time I had begun to see real changes in the mirror and began to think about what would become of the old me, turned out that the two were related and I was going through a type of grieving process, I was taught to love myself no matter what at an early age so besides my health the only other problem withy obesity was what others tried to inflict on me, so I was basically saying goodbye to an old friend, I have become lots more comfortable now and come to terms with a large percentage of my negativity, a therapist will be able to help sort things out for you, good luck in your journey

    I'm tired of this phase!

If you are on soft, only assuming, I also did chicken salad, deli meats, Chinese restaurant soups, I did those little round cheeses that are red, baby something, I did a variety of eggs, scrambled, over easy, soft, omelette w/ spam and cheese, potted meats, hope that helps....
  4. Keep trying there has to be something, maybe a painting, clay type of class you can take, I say think outside the box.......or move??? Lol
  5. That's awesome, I had the same response when my wife gave me a bite of McDonald's burger, the fries tasted like old oil, and the burger was sour and poor quality, I was so happy lol
  6. Keep mind that you also may not really know how much you have lost without a scan, muscle weighs more than fat
  7. About a little over 1 month post op and I can have anything, fortunately I only have 3-4 oz at a time, and try to keep the routine of 1 shake per day
  8. I don't know where you live or what resources you have available, but I work in a psych hospital, part of discharge is to make sure ALL patients have after care and any programs needed to incorporate care and socialization, I am also a father to a special needs stepson and my son, if you are willing to look at the Internet for programs in your County or City then there should be resources where you may attend day programs, there are also many sports leagues in different areas where you can join a bowling, basketball, league etc. I don't even know if you have SSD or SSI, that can provide you with transportation options, ultimately you will need the Internet but not for dating, lol, for information on resources in your area, good luck and let me know how it goes!!!!!!!

    dehydration

I suffered twice because I was in a hurry and forgot to carry water and it was bad. I have since learned to always include water anytime a go anywhere, you will get used to knowing how much to sip at I time, and it has gotten easier for me to keep hydrated throughout the day, I have even made plans for when I go back to work to carry atleast a half gallon container with me, listen to Surfergirl she is very knowledgeable and great to get info from, good luck!!!! And sip sip sip

    I'm so sick of water

Thank you Ilovecats I will check it out
  11. Just be careful because in the long run not enough water can permanently damage certain organs, I had to learn to love a long time ago, so I have not really had any problems, but I do understand since I find myself craving an energy drink once in awhile, I think if you want to get a better perspective there are several videos including some on YouTube that shows the damage soft drinks can do, including taking the acid off a car battery, but ultimately if you aren't having any problems or side effects I see nothing wrong with you indulging from time to time, just please get you water in......

    Struggling

You are eating it, your mind just has to catch up, I say me as to not offend anyone, but when I think about the amounts of food I used to eat compared to today, it still seems surreal, but because of many things I've experienced and seen since the surgery I believe it's right, my wife ISO complete opposite and has always been healthy and active, and Even before all this she used to say to me, " your portions should be the size of your fist" and it's true, your eating will get better just don't ever forget what got us to this point

    Struggling

You are not alone, I've come across a simple technique that is working for me, since my whole system is still adopting to the new life I'm having I choose to let my sleeve do the work for now, I can't medically explain it, but basically whether I take 3 bites or 10, my toy sea to say through feeling that it's full, so I stop, my mind is still catching up, and takes me back to a not so good place, "finish your food" "Your wasteful" and " you don't like my cooking?", I only kept going once since my sleeve and ended up throwing it up, I've also came to the decision to have 1 cheat day per month, but if I go with my wife to a restaurant and I like her dessert because it looks delicious, my safety plan is to not order it and instead get a taste of my wife's, and not every time either, we are creatures of habit so the whole "eat to live, don't live to eat" is hard to stomach ( pardon the pun), but if even before we start to eat we can rationalize, it can be an easy pleasant experience, if I have an 8oz sirloin I need to be content that no matter how delicious it is, if I full after 4 or 5 bites I can put it aside, we are programmed early on to eat by what things taste like to us and how tasty they are, but if you look around the world some of the healthiest cultures that have long life spans only eat what they need to eat, don't torture yourself though, I've learned to cook for myself and I've made some awesome meals, try buying tools to help you cook

    I'm so sick of water

There is great controversy right now that the combination of ingredients and sweeteners in G2 is not good for us, especially those on diets, but I also had it approved on my surgeon's list, maybe I'm just over cautious now because I look at everything I put in me now? Oh well Powerade, and Propel work just as well
  17. I had no idea of the transformation I have already undergone, the fishing pic was taken two years ago, I was with my RN and LVN from my unit and we had a boys fishing day, the selfie was taken this Friday, so far 70 lbs lost 50 + since my first Dr.'s visit in April

    Shocked and Amazed

I was stirring me up a little Elode, don't worry I haven't even tried to have wine til I find it some more about it. Too many opposing opinions for and against, I'm happy with my water and flavored drinks, people on here really inspire me
  19. I did this as a last resort, my health was taking a turn for the worse, and my pain was getting worse, I was obese by age 5, and tried lots of diets, and cure all medications,my weight loss made me yoyo, until last December on my my mom's death anniversary when I ballooned to 388lbs, I have never achieved the success that I am experiencing now, I'm down to 318lbs after being sleeved on June 10th, my diet is awesome, and I've been able to excel at the gym again, gaining strength very quickly and already starting to show definition, I never intended for the scale to dictate how my progress was going, instead I opted at reaching small milestones, I now find myself looking to see how far I can go with this, I was looking at the magic 299 lbs for Christmas, but at this rate it may be sept, oct, I also wanna see how much muscle I can build, and my knowledge of foods and their nutritional value is growing, I grill and Wok as much as I can, I'm just wondering if it is possible that as I embraced all this I somehow became addicted to it, you know giving up one addiction for another? Either way I don't think it's a bad thing, I just wanna honestly know if anyone else has experienced this, I'm coming up on "the stall phase" and I don't even care, BTW I also have lost 8 waist sizes so my motivation through milestones is working !!!!!

    Addiction to all this ?

All the feedback has been great, I just wanted to know I wasn't alone in feeling these things,,whether addiction or enthusiasm I also want so badly to pay it forward, and I'm working on that thru here and Facebook and also when others ask me how I am doing all this, I don't worry about anorexia or any eating disorder anymore since I want to see ironically how tone and big my body can get ( at the gym), I hit rock bottom so going into this I made lifetime changes and plans, diet, exercise, focus, and goals, I know the changes are becoming more real everyday, when we went on a week vacation to the beach last summer I had looked into restaurants and new places to eat while there, we are planning another mini vacation as soon as my time off builds up at work again except this time I find myself looking at places we can go like finding a new beach we haven't been to, and a nature trail in the area where we can see alligators, I also told my wife I want to make sure I take my shakes and own snacks, that was the extent about food action this time, I even dream slot of getting my own Kayak finally after 20 yrs of talking about it, " Eat to live, not live to Eat" very deep when I finally understood this phrase!

    Addiction to all this ?

Thank you guys, this is the kind of meals I post, my wife bought me a Wok for my midlife crisis and I taught myself to stir fry, it is very interesting what you can do and the variation to Chinese recipes that you can tweak to be compliant, this was my first attempt at Stir Fry Cashew Chicken, I omitted some ingredients and substituted others so roughly 300 cal, 15 carbs, and 35 protein and it was awesome!!!!

    Normal foods

I think most people I've read about on here say they waited 2 -3 months out, some can tolerate it sooner, some people on here frown upon salads since it doesn't provide enough protein etc. but there are very successful vegetarians on here who gave no problems getting their protein and other nutrients in, I would say wait until you can tolerate all the raw veggies but just to make sure ask your nutritionist, they may not give you the answer you want though, good luck
