I'm stick and I'm losing hope!
Shustar replied to cantseemytoes's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Take a deep breath. I see that you have posted 56 times so you are not new to this site. I know you know that you are ripe for the "dreaded 3 week stall". Unlike every other "diet" you have tried, this is not an excuse to say f it and soothe yourself with food. Relax, follow protocol and look for the article so many post on why we experience a stall. You are cared about and certainly, not alone. I began my stall after my 2nd week and have lost only 2 pounds since for a grand total of 10 pounds post surgery. It is 10 pounds I don't have to play Uber with any more! -
I'm 4 1/2 weeks out and I'm doing great
Shustar replied to armiller's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
@@cantseemytoes I am 3 1/2 weeks out and have lost 10 pounds from my surgery date and 22 pounds total since pre-op diet. I started to stall after week 2. This is completely normal and to be expected. I am getting 80-100 oz of water and 90-100 g protein. Relax and hang in there following the protocol your doctor/NUT gave you. We are seeking a long term solution to a long time problem! -
Weight lifting/cardio training
Shustar replied to TLCRC3SexyMom's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Very few of us are qualified to tell you when to start strenuous activities. You need to check with your Dr for that. Normally, most doctors reccomend 6 weeks before starting strenuous activities. Unfortunately, neither cardio or weight lifting is a good prognosticator of waht you will end up with as far as loose skin. Unfortunately, heredity, your age, pregnancies and previous weight loss programs will dictate that. The good news is that no matter what, you are going to look and feel fabulous! The other good news is that therre are wonderful surgeries to get rid of that nasty old excess skin! Best of luck to you! -
Take me! Take me!

This has been my story for the past three weeks! I was sleeved on Monday, June 8 in Mexico. I weighed 193 the morning before surgery. I couldn't weigh again until I drove home on Fri. I was horrified to see 10 pounds on the scale...203. OK, I say to myself. Bloat and Water weight. Over the next 2 weeks I lost to 185 for a net loss of 8 pounds Nothing like the stellar losses I see others post. OK, I say to myself, you can't compare yourself to others. My body then smirks and says to me. You want to see weight loss?! Try this! See how you like an 8 day stall! This morning I lost a pound! My body and I played tennis for 90 minutes and for the first time in a very long time, nothing hurt! Body and I have made up. Had my first mushy dinner tonight. Measured 1/2 c of homemade Buffalo chicken salad. First real test of sleeve. So far, cannot tell I even have it with liquids. Could ony eat about 1/3 c! Eurika! It really does work! So this is my own little story for today!

420 pounds gone forever! This is my journey...
Shustar replied to Justin Wiseman's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Not only are you an inspiration, but you are going to save lives...besides your own! You gave me goosebumps! -
There are two major situations that will create hunger pains. 1. Acid Reflux (which does not feel like hearburn, by the way) and 2. Dehydration due to liquid intake shortages. It is hard to get more than 64 ounces at first. Did you Dr put you on a acid blocker such as Prilosec? You might want to ake him/her about that. This too shall pass! Take care!

Day One of Pre-Op Diet...I think I'd rather just starve.
Shustar replied to GirlOnFire's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@GirlOnFire I did 2 weeks of protein shakes pre-sleeve. After I got my sleeve on June 8th, I also had about 3 weeks of...guess what...shakes and puddings. I know it is tough, but so is being fat. There are some pretty good protein shakes and products out there so good luck! -
Buying smaller sizes pre-op
Shustar replied to GirlOnFire's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Try not to guess what your body is going to be lke at different weights. The styles we have selected to wear at our heaviest had a different purpose than the ones you will wear as you shrink! I would not try to shop ahead because half of the fun of wearing smaller sizes is experimenting with things you would never otherwise try! The joy is in the fit! -
My funny bone is the only bone I can find right now!

Good luck!

3 months out, need help with food pleeeaaaase!
Shustar replied to Soma's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
There are some great recipe ideas on Pinterest. Serch for VSG recipes. Lots of greaat ideas and most are very simple like adding hot sauce and blue cheeze sprinkles to chicken salad for a "hot wings" salad! Good luck! -
rear624 and wascott, are you on acid inhibitors like Prilosec? Excess acid in the sleeve will mimic hunger. Our Dr. started us on day 3 with Prilosec just to avoid this sensation and further said we almost all will have acid reflux and need to take as daily maintenance. Just a thought, check with your Doc.

Starting Preop Liquid Diet Today
Shustar replied to laceygorrell's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Welcome to the hood! I would definately stick to your Dr.'s instructions. There is a good reason they do not want fecal material in your system. I would hate to think of leaving a "special gift" during surgery! Following directions and learning compliance are two tools I need to learn and accept to be successful at this new way of life. I still have a rebellious nature but finding new ways to focus these tendancies. Good luck! -
Decided to rent clothes for the time being
Shustar replied to Engteacher's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Here in Arizona we have some wonderful consignment shops. I take my better (too big) clothes in and buy at a tiny fraction of the cost. This way my wardrobe is always changing along with me and I don't spend too much money. I think Gwynnie Bee certainly has some ver cute things! It would certainly be a time saver! -
OK! I just have to say it! I am jealous. I know all the right things, we all lose at our own rate, it is not a race, you cant't eat 600 calories a day and not lose, etc. Yada, yada, yada! I went from 202 to 193 on my 2 week pre-diet and have gone from 193 to 185 post sleeve and have lost nothing for a week. If this were just another diet I would probably say F it and invite hubby out to dinner tonight. I chose to create a permanent tool so that this irrational thinking would have to be faced head on. I am committed to my personal health and progress so will continue on and find my sense of humor because I am going to get there!

You look so great! I'll bet you are feeling fabulous! Woo! Hoo! -
Lucky you! You have one of the capitals of bariatric surgery at your doorstep. I just droove from Scottsdale, AZ to San Diege for surgery in Tijuana. Could not have been any more delighted with the price, level of cre and the outcome. I used Dr. Elias Ortiz with A lighter Me. they will pick you up at the border, I parked at Border Station next to the big outlet mall. First night in the Grand Hotel (you can google it) and stayed on the "medical" floor. Next day we were taken to the hospital for tests and surgery. Amazing team and nurses who all spoke great English. Release on the third morning and returned to the Grand Hotel where room service included broth, apple juice and popsicles (included). All meds and bandages were also included. Their drivers took us shopping and sightseeing. Amazing trip! Will definately go back for my plastic surgery when I get to goal! I forgot to mention, the total for my surgery and everything complete $4600.00

I was chuckling at all the gals who love their Lane Bryant bras. Remember the day is coming when you will no longer fit into Lane Bryant sizes! They start at 36 C which may be too big for thee gal who started this thread! What a concept! Way to go Chunkylover! Looks like you are getting close to goal!

I was leeved on June 8 in Tijuana throug ALM (A Lighter Me). They are offering plastic surgery and based on my my experience with them I have no reservations about using them again! I am 62 and a retail store owner. I love my work. When I get to the right place I will get them done as I want to keep working until I am 70 or so.

Thanks so much Rogofulm! I read this article a couple of weeks ago. I have never read a more suscinct and thorough explanation for the stall which I have hit after 2 weeks. It is frustrating since I have only lost 7 pounds since surgery on 8 June. I know what I am eating is good. I just need a sleeve on my impatience! Too bad they can't do that at the same time!

Question for post-opers
Shustar replied to TLTinKY's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I agree with sticking to the pre-op diet but I am sure you can use any high protein, low-fat shake. I think Premier makes one of the best. 30 g Protein and only 140 calories. Good luck!
