1. Happy 51st Birthday tamana!

2. Happy 50th Birthday tamana!

3. I ended up having my band removed. I was originally going to switch out the port because my doctor thought that was the problem but I decided that since I was having surgery anyways, I would just have the whole thing out. I figure that eventually the band would have to come out because as far as I know, there has not been research done showing that you can have the band forever without any problems. Ends up that I made the right decision because when my doctor took the band out, he saw that it had basically cracked halfway between the port and the band so a port revision would not have worked anyways. How are you doing? Did you have the port replaced? I gotta tell you though that I miss my band alot. I have put on about 10 pounds since having it removed and had put on 10 pounds between the time that the brown fluid was discovered and I had the band removed. I am not a happy camper right now but working hard trying to get this weight off.
4. I had a lap band put in January 2008. I was having some complications and came to the conclusion that the band had to be removed. Doctor thought I had erosion but after an endoscopy, it showed no erosion. Went back to my doctor and he would put in 5cc of saline and only 1 - 2cc would come back. He did this several times and he thought I had a leak in my port. After having so many problems with vomiting and getting fills and un-fills, I decided to have my band removed instead of just having the port replaced. I went in last Friday and had the band removed on Saturday. My doctor told me after the surgery that there was a crack in the tubing halfway between the port and the band. Has anyone ever heard of this before? I was in the hospital for 5 days (I have a bleeding problem) but am already back to work and feeling good for the most part. I am glad to finally have this band out of me but am scared to gain all my weight back that I have lost. One day at a time.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

Lap band erosion

I was wondering if they ever figured out what the discolored fluid was. I have the same problem and they thought it was band erosion so I had an endoscopy and everything showed that there is no erosion. I went back yesterday (3 weeks later) and the fluid was brown again and out of the 3cc's he put in 3 weeks ago, only about 1cc came out and it was brown. I am having my band removed next week.

Leaking Port

So I went to the doctor for a fill about 1 1/2 months ago. It ended up being way too much so after a day of throwing up worse than ever, I went in to get some taken out. The doctor took some out and then of course, I was back to very little restriction. I went back two weeks later for another adjustment and when the doctor went to take some saline out, it was brown. He was stumped as he has never seen this before. He thought maybe my band was eroding and so he sent me for an endoscopy. I had that done and it showed no erosion at all and the band looked great. Now two weeks later I went in again today for an adjustment and again brown stuff came out. Last time I got an adjustment he pulled out all the brown stuff and gave me 3cc of saline. Today when I went in there was only 1cc in my band. The doctor kept putting saline in and pulling it out so he got rid of all the brown stuff. He would put in 5cc and only 2 cc would come out and there were air bubbles coming out as well. He now believes I have a leak somewhere in the port or the tubing. He is going to put in for authorization so that he can switch out my port and tubing. Has anyone had this done or heard of this before. Part of me feels like taking the band out but I feel like I have come this far, I want to go until the end when I can get to goal weight. I have had my band for about 2 1/2 years and was down 60 pounds but have put about 20 pounds back on. Yikes!!!
7. I watched his video and actually sent him an e-mail. I cannot figure out if the brown fluid from his band was the first thing that happened??? It sounds like he was having alot of issues. Also his band had eroded and so far mine has not. I have an appt. next Thursday but I am so worried that the same thing can happen to me. My doctor is out of town this week. I also had some blood work done last week so I will find out the results today. Thank you so much for your concern and responses. By the way...I was looking at your weight loss and you have done an amazing job. Good for you and keep up the good work. I have to start exercising again because my weight is creeping up rapidly now that I have no restriction.
8. I don't know what it was but I am going back in 2 weeks to see if there is still brown fluid. Now someone told me about this guy who had brown fluid and it turned out that he got a septic infection and had to have his band removed. I do not have any other symptoms of anything else but the fact that my doctor said he has never seen this before sort of worries me. Thanks for your responses.
9. I went and had a endoscopy and they said my band has not eroded. What was it that you heard that was serious?
10. I have read that one of the signs of band eroision is weight gain. Stupid question but I'm going to ask it anyways. Is the weight gain caused because you lose restriction and you can eat whatever you want or...............is there something else that makes us gain the weight? I might have band erosion, having an endoscopy tomorrow, and I cannot stop gaining weight. Yes I am probably eating more now because I have no restrictionn, but there are days when I don't eat that much and I have gained about 8 pounds in 2 weeks. I am freaking out. Thanks for your input.
11. I went to get a fill today and the doctor put the needle in my port and went to pull out fluid and it was brown. He has ordered me to get a procedure where they put a tube down your throat to see if my band has eroded. Has anyone ever seen or heard anything like this before. I am so nervous. Thanks for your feedback.
12. What is the pumkin banana muffin? That sounds really good. I have never posted on this website but I read your food diary daily.
13. I emailed them today too, asking if there was a website I could buy them from because I don't know if Winco is going to start carrying them on a regular basis or not ... when I went back today to buy more, there were only a few bags left and they were stuffed in a box way up high above the chips & crackers aisle. I hate it when I find something I really like and then it vanishes as quickly as I found it.

My calories ... well currently I am trying to stay around or below 1000. I say currently because whenever I get to a plateau, I change my routine a bit to keep the loss going. Sometimes I bump up my calorie intake to 1200 ... as far as carbs, I like to keep them at 30g or less but there are days I go overboard (like today I had 50g) ... We're all different though, some people do well by just counting calories and some people do best with low carb (thats me!) so you just need to find what works for you.

14. I went to the site and yes your right...not too helpful. I sent them an e-mail asking them where I can buy them so hopefully they will reply. How many calories do you eat a day and how many carbs. Do you exercise at all? Your weight loss is amazing. You must feel so good and proud. My goal is to lose 100 pounds and them maybe 20 more but first I want to get to the 100. I am going to keep looking to see what your eating and try and follow (at least some of it). Thanks for replying to my messages. I really appreciate it. By the way, I live in Simi Valley, Ventura County.

15. Hi tamana ~ I went to that site yesterday (after I sent it to you) and it wasn't very helpful ... sorry! I was looking to see if I could buy them online but their site doesn't sell directly, they didn't even show all the different flavors. I'm still looking though, there has to be some site out there that sells them ...

What part of California are you in? I am in SoCali (in the Inland Empire)

As far as my band journey ... I'd have to say the first 6 months or so were a breeze. I was a tad bit frustrated in the very first month after banding, I had only lost like 15 lbs while everyone else was losing way more but then the loss started picking up. I was very strict with myself. I planned my meals out, I bought a food scale to weigh my foods so I know EXACTLY what's going in and I keep track of my daily intake at thedailyplate.com ... I've kept to mainly a high protein / low carb diet since banding. Of course I've had my off days, and there was a period of time that I slipped back into old habits (like buying a package of cookies and eating the ENTIRE package in 1 day!) but after that incident I said to myself "what the heck are you doing??" and I realized I needed a fill and needed to get back on the "bandwagon" ... My weightloss started slowing down back in February, they say the closer you get to goal, the slower the loss will be.

I have a 4cc band with 2.6cc filled ... I often say my band has a mind of it's own as some days I can eat certain foods (or too much) and the next day I can't eat anything. I know stress can affect the band, when I'm stressed my band tightens up.

If you feel you can eat too much, I'd definitely talk to the doc and see if perhaps you could use a slight fill ... even 1/2 of a cc can make a huge difference! =)
