    Tomorrow is the big day!

Sorry it has been so long since I've updated on my progress! I'm home now!! Had to stay an extra night for observation since I was not eating (drinking) enough. But I loved my nurse staff so I didn't mind it much. The ride home was ok, but I am so very glad to be home! Got on the scale and lost 4 lbs since the surgery. No weight loss right after they said because of all the fluids and such from surgery, but now I feel like I'm on a roll! Drinking enough and walking are sooooo important! I can't tell you how much better and more normal I feel now that I got my fluids in. Every little bit helps!! Hunger is gone, but I can't even begin to tell you how badly I want a giant salted soft pretzel. Guess that's been my only craving since surgery. Maybe just the lack of salted stuff that I was so used to eating. Beef broth I guess just isn't cutting it lol but overall these past few days have been easier than the prior and each day gets that much better

    Tomorrow is the big day!

Hi all!!! Just woke up from yet another nap. Am feeling a little better to post this. Dr came in and said my surgery went very very well. Was down 16 lbs when I came in this morning so my liver was nice and shrunken. CAm in a little pain (gas is actually in abdomen not shoulders) but I'm already up and walking!!!! Even tho I feel drunk when they have me do that. Hope all went well with your surgery Lisa!!! I'm ready to begin the rest of my life!!

  5. Hi all! I just got the call for my surgery time tomorrow!!! I should be recovering by this time tomorrow and couldn't be more excited about it!!! Just wanted to shout it from the rooftop!!!! I was nervous and anxious until this morning when I got really excited about it. I don't know what switch was flipped but all of my fears and anxieties have gone away and I hope this all for you too!! We're all on the road to 'smaller' and better things and we should be excited for the new path ahead. Good luck to everyone on their journey! Stay tuned! I'll post updates on my progress for anyone who is interested!!

Today was the day, and I feel great

Hi Dan! Congratulations! Happy sleeve day! I must say that reading your post really helped me with some of my anxienty. My surgery is scheduled for this Thursday, June 4, and I know I am so overly well prepared for this, but I'm still feeling a bit anxious. Almost like a feeling of "I think I forgot something..." and it's been driving me crazy. Your advice really helped me realize that the thing I forgot was really here all along: my mental preparation. I have everything packed and ready to go and I feel good. I just need to keep reminding myself that I am ready, physically and mentally. So thank you for this post. Am glad to hear you are doing so well! I'm hoping to bounce back just as quickly! Please keep us posted on your progress and any further advice you may have down your road to recovery!!

    Food funeral...

4 days for me too!! I'm down 12 lbs. But the Dr told me if I didn't lose between 10-15 lbs on the day of surgery, he'd know I cheated and he wouldn't operate. So I am being super super careful. I'd do anything for some pizza tho!!

Yes, definitely! Well keep in touch and keep me posted on your progress! I'm hoping to have wifi in my hospital room afterwards so I can keep this handy app on hand in case I need some support

    One week away!

I'm located in CT. I'd love to keep in touch! It's nice to have a place like this to find support from people experiencing the same thing. Where are you from?

    One week away!

I'm one week away too!! And feeling the exact same way. It's nerve-wracking but yet I'm still so excited! I can't wait for the day to come but I'm scared for it as well. I take time each day to look at old photos of myself from over the years and it makes me feel more excited than anything. I also like to check on here for before and after photos to help gear me up for the big day. I honestly cannot wait to actually have an "after" photo!!! Best of luck to you on June 3rd. I'll be right behind you on June 4th

    Food funeral...

I had a bunch of what I call "last suppers" over the past few months. My last day before my 10 day pre-op diet, I had a cookout and had some great food and drinks with friends. It was fun to celebrate with people right before my protein shake start date on Memorial Day. Hasn't been too bad so far!! Extremely thankful for the 6 oz of solid protein I'm able to have though each day!!! The 24 hour liquids before surgery will be tough tho. One more week! June 4! Starting to see the light at the end of this very long tunnel

    Just getting started.

Hi Vicki! My name is Ali and I'm 30 yrs old with a decision to have the sleeve done. I started my journey on June 3, 2014 and just made my surgery date of June 4, 2015. I, too, was told I was the perfect candidate and after a few years of hearing that from my doctor, I decided to take the plunge. I've been heavy my entire life and always thought I could do it myself too, but last year I decided to admit to myself that I need the help. I first wanted the band but I don't want the option to go back to the way I was. I know I cannot do it on my own. So I opted for the more permanent tool to help me for the rest of my life. I know if I talk myself out of this surgery, I'll end up just following in the same direction I am going now, and I can't help thinking of myself in 20 yrs saying, "I wish I did this sooner", which is what I hear a LOT of people tell me at support groups. Whenever I find myself thinking "I can't go through with this", I just look at old photos of myself to remind me of how bad I let myself get. I'm not doing it for looks, I am doing this to be healthier, but I like to have a physical reminder of who I am doing this for: me. So that's my story in a nutshell! I hope it helps you figure out whatever path is best for you!!
