VinnyB, I sent you a message directly. It was too long to post. I really liked the staff at South Nassau. They knew me well after I was there on three separate occasions since April 15. I am now well and about to really begin exercising. I had a few complications but it will be worth it. I am down 40 pounds, which isn't much for 4 months. I feel better now and am no longer in pain when I walk. I am guessing that repair of the hernia was needed before the surgery. Anyway, please read my note to you. Lisa

It's all IV water weight. I GAINED 25 pounds in the hospital in FIVE days.... I was being treated for severe diarrhea and they were pushing fluids in. The fluid weight will come out after about one week...BUT you must drink... If you have difficulty, sip water around the clock. Set an alarm on your phone for every five minutes and drink. Best of luck

There are support group meetings the first Tuesday evening of every month at 7 pm at South Nassau Communities Hospital. They are extremely informative and very important to go to.

Carol, so sorry you had a rough time. At least you are in the right place to control your pain. Make sure they allow for probiotics after you finish your antibiotics. Best of luck and keep in touch. I was there for 11 days.... It sucked but I thought of it as a vacation from my four kids and husband. By the time I went home I really missed them and they missed me!!! -

What a horrific night. I ate too much.. Five bites of chicken and it got stuck causing so much pain.. I tried to walk it off but threw up in the street while my daughters watched. I'm still in pain with terrible gas. Don't drink for 30 minutes before or after eating!!! I will have to measure 3-4 ounces from now on. My pouch may be smaller than I anticipated!!! Stuck in bathroom with gas and no gas x to assist!!! Lisa 40 days post surgery -

Great news!!! Take your time!! Never drink more than a couple of ounces at a sitting. Tonight for me was horrific. I hadn't eaten anything but a yogurt. So by dinner I was famished. I only had five bites of chicken but it was too much and I drank too soon, so things got stuck. I tried to walk through the pain. But I ended up throwing up for the first time. I will definitely measure how much I eat and chew until it's puréed. The discomfort is something that is hard to describe. Do not let it happen to you. My poor daughters were so frightened as they watched me vomit in the street. We were trying to walk through the pain. I finally was able to lie down. I'm hungry but too frightened to eat tonight. Goodnight to everyone. Rest well and dream of how you will feel one year from now!! Lisa -

So sorry about the pain. My surgeon gave me Percocet and it worked great. Remember girls: NO NSAIDS (ibuprofen, Advil, aspirin, etc). Only Tylenol and Tylenol alone will not work. You can ask your doctor for a pain medication that will work for you. Minimally, let the medication let you sleep. -

Oh girls... It really does get better. Don't be shy....ask for pain meds and if it doesn't work ask for something different!!! Try to walk, it helps move the gas out!! ???????????????????????? -
Yes... But for some reason, I ended up With either a GI infection or just a bad reaction causing severe Fluid loss whenever I drank/ate. Anyway, I'm better now and will be starting exercise as soon as my energy level is up. Hopefully tomorrow or over the weekend. My husband brought the treadmill into the house a few days ago because the garage was either freezing or roasting!! How are you doing? When was your surgery? How much have you lost? How soon could you eat? Lisa

Darcie, You are not alone. Scared and excited and everything in between. All normal feelings. If you had Benadryl I would recommend you take it to relax you and let you sleep. But, if you don't sleep, no worries, you will sleep enough over the next few days. If your family is far away, SKYPE from your hospital room. You will sleep when you need to and walk and walk when you are awake. Remember, if you have questions and can't sleep, I will try to answer you as soon as possible. Rest well, Lisa
