Pain after surgery - I'm afraid I won't be able to handle it
camkids replied to Catherine Davis's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My band to sleeve surgery was 5/5. The worst part of the surgery was the pain from where my old lap band port had been. I had my gallbladder removed when my band was put in (8 years ago) and the pain was much greater that time. I was a little sore for a few weeks...again, mostly from the port site. Best wishes. -
Consider yourself lucky! I had a very large (golf ball) "seroma" that drained for weeks. Sometimes it drained a bunch! It finally stopped after about 3 &1/2 weeks. Best of luck on your recovery.

Hematoma after band to sleeve revision
camkids replied to camkids's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I didn't have a drain either. But I had plenty of drainage. Thankfully that's done. -

Hematoma after band to sleeve revision
camkids replied to camkids's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I'm pleased to report that I have been without any drainage for 48 hours, and my surgeon says I can consider it "done". I still have some swelling at the port site (well, former port site). It is going down fairly quickly. -
Argument with NP over Coffee
camkids replied to Slimsoon1988's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am so thankful that my surgeon gave me his blessing for me to have coffee from day one . I drink it black, and have to admit I can't drink nearly as much as I did pre-op. I am 3 weeks and 1 day post band to sleeve. I don't remember that I was not allowed to drink coffee after my band surgery either. That was 8 years ago. I say "all things in moderation". -

3 weeks post-op and cheat daily
camkids replied to nerkerle's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am 3 weeks post op today, also. I don't think any of us have this eating thing down perfect (or we wouldn't need bariatric surgery), but I try to tell myself that I need to take extra good care of this new stomach of mine while it's healing. I know that this is the stomach I have for the rest of my life, and how I treat it while it's healing will determine if it's my best friend or worst enemy for the rest of my life. I have been dying for some meat. It's getting harder and harder to resist...went to a get-together Sunday, really had to struggle to keep my hand out of the chips. Good luck to you, hang in there. -
Hematoma after band to sleeve revision

So far I still have some drainage, but much less than last week. My surgeon said my body had made a pocket around my port (it had) and my body wants to fill it, so until tissue is there, it fills with fluid, -
Chewable Vitamins during Post-op Liquid Stage?
camkids replied to SleevePerry's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It is interesting to me how every doc is different, and every person is different. I have taken my chewable bariatric Vitamin every day since day one home from the hospital. I make sure to chew it very well, but it's never bothered me. Interesting. -
I'm on pureed, and runny oatmeal is an option. Would that be an acceptable substitute? I had some for Breakfast earlier this week. Could only eat a few bites, but it was nice to "chew".

I had an egg for the first time on Tuesday. It was yummy! Glad you are doing good.

Travel Restrictions After Surgery
camkids replied to nevadapinkprincess's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I saw my surgeon yesterday for my 2 week post-op check. He has no travel restrictions, I told him about an overnight trip we have planned for Monday (for my husband to see his heart surgeon), and a trip we have planned for fun in a few more weeks. He said "have fun". Just remember to obey your diet restrictions, and listen to your body. -

Is WLS the easy way out or the only way out?
camkids replied to *Lexie*'s topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I can't think of any people that I know that have lost 100 pounds (or around there) that didn't have wls, and not all of them have kept it off. WLS has been a lifesaver for me, most of my comorbidities that would have probably killed me by now are gone. But it's not a magic wand. I've had to learn to work with it. -

Did anyone like the band better?
camkids replied to OldMomOf3's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Nope! My only regret is that I waited so long. I have had the "effects" of a slipped band for about 2 years...and today is 2 weeks post-op for my revision. I'm just getting to advance my diet to pureed today...haven't had any heartburn, "stuck" feeling, am able to sleep with my head completely flat... Good luck with your surgery. -
I'm actually jealous of you guys that had a drain. Instead, my incision where my lap band port was has drained for two weeks. I see the surgeon tomorrow, going to ask if it's too late to put one in. My husband and I are pros at caring for drains, we have both had them after other surgeries. It's a hassle for a short time, but not nearly as big a hassle as having the drainage ruin your clothes and sheets. I hate to go out because the drainage happens at random...even with a dressing on , I will look down and have a nasty spot on my shirt.
-
Oh, I had drains for my plastic, also. they were a pain, but I didn't ruin my pajamas and sheets...and it seems like the time with drains made the time "draining" less. The other incisions are healed, I have minimal pain except from the "drainer". I see the surgeon on Wed, hopefully he and I will pow-wow about this little problem.
