    Halloween Challenge!

    Cw 241.2. Thanks!

    Too many stalls, sigh!

Celebrate the fact that you have LOST 76 lbs! What would the scale show today without bariatric surgery? I stall frequently too, even at less than 1 month out, but have lots going against me: Lifetime of obesity, advanced age, female, carry much of the weight in the thighs. All this to say my expectations are that one day I'll get there. Stalls make me crazy but they're just a part of the process. Cheer your victories and keep your eye on the prize! 76 lbs is fantastic!
  3. Thanks for posting this! The study certainly confirms what I knew was true for me at least - that the probability of attaining anywhere near normal body weight was just about 0 without bariatric surgery.

    Wound Dressings

I had my surgery 8/25. The glue has come off all the surface incisions. I only have a belly button full of glue left and that's slowly coming off too. I think it'll be gone by this time next week.

Had My Surgery Tuesday August 25th

My heart beats not so much faster but harder. I think it's mostly when my body thinks it's time to eat because after I "eat" (4 oz protein shake) the heart calms down. Do any of you have the same experience?

I have not lost a single pound!

I'm 12 days out and have lost just under 10 lbs. It really differs from one person to the next. And I've plateaued for 3-4 days now. Refusing to let the numbers define my success (But it's a struggle, I won't lie). Still on clear liquids plus 12 oz daily of protein shake.

Hi sweettooth, Happy to talk anytime. Mine was done at Inova Fair Oaks, and yours will be at Inova Fairfax, but I'm still happy to help so feel free to reach out anytime. Good luck with the process!

Had My Surgery Tuesday August 25th

Hi everyone! Hard to believe it's been over a week now. My only complaint is a rash that has appeared on many places over my body. From the forum it sounds like this does happen sometimes. Otherwise energy level is below average but remarkably good for 1 week out. Getting Protein and liquids in no problem. Healing very nicely. I look forward to reading your updates!

    Losing the fight, Help !

I'm so sorry to hear of your struggles. All I can say is: Send out an SOS to yourself in your real life! Attend those support groups. Go back to basics with your eating. Find new recipes that will distract you from your cravings. Walk, walk, walk and meditate during your walks to try to recenter yourself; to remind yourself why you embarked on this journey in the first place; and to resolve to do what you know needs to be done. Talk to your doctor, your counselor, anyone. We are here for you; I hope this helped even a tiny bit.

    People's expectations of you...

I'm so sorry you have to deal with that! I'm hoping that I have headed everyone off at the pass by constantly saying that this is a marathon, not a sprint. So far no one has been disappointed that I haven't become super-slim. But then again it has only been a week. Having said that, I so understand your hurt and frustration. The comments, demeaning as they are, say more about the speaker than about you. I hope you can take some comfort in that. And whatever happened to respect? That cousin of yours needs to grow up in my humble opinion. Would you feel comfortable standing up to him by pointing out that that was disrespectful?

    Itching

Mine are itching too and today I have a rash on various spots on my body. Not freaking out. Got diaper rash cream to see if the rash improves and it already looks better than a few hours ago. Now if I could just stop the incision itching...

I still can't believe I actually did it

So happy to hear you're doing so well, sleeve twin! I am too. And so grateful for this chance at a healthier life. Keep up the good spirits!

Hi Principessa, it depends on the program and on the patient, I think. In the hospital they gave me oral pain meds and blood thinner shots but I was sent home on no meds, no pain pumps, no blood thinners, nothing. It may be that your friend is at higher risk of developing clots? I'm only guessing here. Good luck on your journey and keep asking those good questions!

VsgPat, I'm feeling great. I can't believe I'm this well only 5 days out. Incisions are covered with glue and are itching a bit. I got off pain meds at the hospital and haven't needed any since. I'm a bit sore at incisions if I move or walk but it's very bearable - discomfort like a skinned knee, really not much more. Able to get in all fluids and protein without trouble (my program required just 3 days clear liquids pre surgery and then 2 weeks clear liquids plus protein post surgery.) My taste buds have become a bit more picky but until tonight tummy was tolerating everything well (a bit of an upset tummy right now but nothing dramatic). Energy levels are pretty low because of the healing and clear liquids. Otherwise I really have no complaints at all. Feel free to ask me any questions if you have specific ones, either on this thread or PM me. Hospital experience: excellent. From check-in through to checkout I felt very well cared for. Nurses and staff tend to be really good everywhere and this was no exception. I had orthopedic surgery at the same hospital about 6 years ago as an outpatient and had a very positive experience then too. Oh and I had a private room. I don't know if that's standard everywhere but at Fair Oaks, unless they're booked up, bariatric patients get a private room.

Had mine at Fair Oaks Hospital. Though it's a hike, I had looked at a few programs and surgeons and felt that that one was the best match for me. Surgeon is Matthew Fitzer out of Reston.

    Lightheaded

This happened to me today. I'm 4 days post-op. I was laying back against cushions and felt my heart start to pound really hard in my chest. I sat upright and suddenly the world went all but black, and then it cleared up before I lost consciousness. Super scary. I've been doing great on fluids so not sure what this was. I check my BP every morning and it's within normal limits. I know that if this happens again I'm calling my surgeon's office.

Had My Surgery Tuesday August 25th

It will get better! I had a hiatal hernia repaired too but that hasn't given me any trouble. Today I've struggled with the taste of pretty much everything. Protein shakes taste horrible, diluted fruit juice and teas leave a nasty taste. The only thing that I'm truly enjoying is strained wonton soup with a teeny bit of unflavored protein. If that's what it takes to get me through then that's what I'll have!

    Leg cramps

Vitamin D deficiency also causes leg cramps.

Had My Surgery Tuesday August 25th

Aug 25 here. Amazed at how quickly I've recovered. When I came out of anesthesia the pain was unbearable and it took quite a while for them to find the right dosage and pain med combo to make me more comfortable. Who knew that 2 days later I'd be able to quite happily get off all meds. Gas is manageable. Having trouble getting my protein down because shakes make me gag but working through it. No problems getting in my fluids. Get tired very quickly but that's to be expected. So all in all doing extremely well.

I am home and feeling ok

Home, feeling like a million bucks... But run out of energy very quickly. My shower today really did me in! I'm feeling great, though. The nausea and vomiting from day 1 are gone, am off all pain meds, drinking my tiny sips like I was told, and really happy to be doing so well. I was able to walk 1 mile (in small increments) the day after surgery so I'm sure that helped with the gas and other nasty side effects. I'm hoping all our 8/25 "sleeve twins" are doing as well as or better than me!
