  1. I don't have a surgery date yet but thank you for sharing your experience so far. I find it helpful.

Thank you @RVav. I'd love to be support buddies with you. I'm on my second week of 'behaving'. I think I'll be ok now. It just took so much to get started. I lost 100 lbs abt 5 yrs ago but put it back on. Then lost 75 last yr and had put back on 25 before starting this journey. I think I was just so burnt out.

Well not great. I lost 75 lbs last year/first of this year and I'm so burned out with it all. Im in my second month of the diet. The first month I didn't lose any which in reality I lost like 6 lbs but it was weight u had gained while on vacation and managed to get back down to where I started. This month I've do the same. I'm back down the that start weight and still have two weeks before weigh in time. I keep sabotaging myself. I'm so frustrated. How abt you?

Day 6 after sleeve - am I OK?

I know very little as I'm just beginning the pre-op Journey but you could be dehydrated. It can cause all those symptoms you mentioned. Glad ur seeing ur dr tomorrow. Let us know what he says.
  6. I haven't tried some of these but wanted to say thanks for the chuckles. It's both crazy and sad what lengths we will go to lose weight. Here's to ending the madness....

@@newme I'm in the same boat. It will be about Nov-Dec for me too. I see the cardiologist today and have my EDG on the 22nd. I'm almost one month in on my 6 mo diet. I don't have BCBS tho so can't help you there however, my surgeons office won't start the process with patients unless they are sure they can get them approved. I'm older then you also. I'm 55. I've put off WLS forever bc my youngest daughter is disabled and I was afraid something would happen to me and I wouldn't be here to care for her. Now with the sleeve option I feel more confident. And at 55 I feel like I have to do something or I won't be here to care for her. My husband is having it done also. He's 8 yrs older then me. Has more issues bc of his weight. He's heavier and shorter so he's going first. Good luck on your journey. ????

    Water

I already love water (pre-op) and have no problem drinking 72 ozs a day. I hope that doesn't change post-op!
  9. I have my first visit this week. It's only the history and physical part but what can I expect? Anything I should know? Excited to finally be starting the process.

    My first visit

Thank you for that response. I'm not normally afraid of stuff but for some reason I have been lately. I canceled another procedure unrelated to WLS last month bc I just couldn't go through with it. I hope mine is as easy as yours for sure. My youngest daughter had a severe stomach bleed a few yrs ago and we almost lost her. She had to have two separate scopes done. Maybe my anxiety is bubbling up from that.

    My first visit

Well I had my first visit today. It went well. I suppose I'm very healthy. No ailments and I don't take any meds. The nurse practitioner said I was boring health wise and that boring was good. Lol My surgeon does require I have an EGD done. I'm a little nervous. Can anyone share what it was like for them?
  12. I'm curious about what types of foods, serving sizes and even specific brands of foods you are eating after surgery long term. I understand about the soft foods right after surgery but I'm talking about once life settles down and the rest of you life begins. Anyone want to share a typical food day with me? Also if you could include how much Protein, fats and carbs you are eating a day that would be great. Thank you! I am just beginning and have my first appointment next week.

Thanks @OKCPirate. I will make sure I check those out. Lol.

    My first visit

What will the physical entail? I mean as a female if you know what I mean. I keep up on my yearly gyn visits. I won't have to go that far will I? Lol
  15. I have watched others have bypass surgery. Some did well. Some had strokes and one died. I could t risk it. I have a special needs daughter who needs me. She requires help with every aspect of life and I have to be here for her. Then one day I woke up and I was 55 yrs old and I realized the tables had turned. I just might not be here for her one day. I learned about the sleeve and have decided it was the least risky and the right choice for me.

    Wellcare:Medicaid Kentucky

I don't have WellCare but I do live in Kentucky. I have anthem BCBS/Medicaid. I shouldn't have any problems getting approved. At least that's what my surgeons office is saying. And my BMI is 40.

    Surgery at 56?

Hello... I am 55 and just getting started so I will be 56 by the time I have surgery. The common sentiment I hear from everyone here is that they are sorry they waited so long and they'd do it again in a minute. I don't think we're too old at all. 1. We deserve a good life and 2. We will be extending our life. I'm still learning my way around this site and look forward to meeting new friends. The journey is better with support. PS: How can I get a ticker like so many others on here?

    Anybody older doing this?

I am 55 and my husband is 63. We are both just beginning the process. I don't have any health problems... yet. My husband has lots of aches and pains from being overweight but we're both fairly healthy so far.

    Surgery with spouse

My husband and I are also having the sleeve done. It will be closer to the end of the yr as we're just getting started. But we are doing them abt 4-6 weeks apart and that's bc our youngest daughter is disabled. Since we can't lift for a few weeks it's necessary that we each have time to heal well. ????

Being a Big Guy and Dating

I think you should start creating friendships with women first and if anything develops its bc they liked the real you no matter what size you were. Easier said then done I know but when someone falls in love with you they will celebrate your weight loss victories along with you. ????

    Soft/Pureed Recipes for strict doctor

Ok I was following this topic and now I wonder. Does everything have to be puréed ? I have a real texture issue. I don't like wet foods like gravies and any kind of condiment. I scoop soup out with a slotted ladle and then eat it with a fork. Would I be able to live on things like yogurt (which I love) during this stage?? Taking real foods and mushing them makes me want to barf. Lol.

    Just beginning my journey...

Thank you everyone. No @@judyoz we aren't having it done the same time and for that very reason. I think my hubby should go first. He's 8 yrs older then me and has multiple health issues. I don't have any except for sore knees. Our Hannah is small for her age (she's 21 but only 50 lbs) but it's still 50lbs. When asked if I exercise I like to say "I lift 50lbs several times a day.... does that count" lol We will request our surgeries to be about 6 weeks apart to be sure we're healed completely.
  24. I'm 55 yrs old. I've been overweight most of my adult life. I've known people who have had gastric bypass over the years and later had issues and 3 have had severe strokes. I've known people who have had the lap band and later had to have it removed. I've known people who have had both with wonderful results and no issues. I've spent many years balancing all these things in my mind because I desperately wanted to lose the weight but simply can not risk the bad results. You see.... I'm the mom of a severely disabled, medically fragile daughter who needs me for all her needs. She's my world and I can't risk not being here for her. That said.... I've come to a point in my life where not having surgery might mean I won't be here for her. I've decided to have the gastric sleeve surgery. It seems to have the least risks. I'm both excited and scared. More about me... I'm a mother to 4 other grown children. Grandmother to 7 grandchildren and a wife to a wonderful man who also struggles with his weight. Together we have lost and gained and lost again. Nothing works for very long. He's also going to have the sleeve surgery. My prayers are that this is finally the answer to us having a better future together. We aren't getting any younger. The time is now. I'd love to hear from others who are caregivers to someone like my Hannah. Someone who understands my struggle and fears. I enjoy reading all the posts, all the success stories. Thank you in advance for welcoming me. Mary Jane
