Pregnant and Banded...come join me!
Cherry_Blue replied to raynie's topic in Pregnancy with Weight Loss Surgery
I was banded in jan this year, have lost 40 kilos and am pregnant, 11 weeks, due 20th June 2009. i have a son, Nelson who is 2 and a half. I have already put on a kilo in these first weeks, I am able to eat a bit more and have been drinking alot of milk, not flavoured, just plain milk, but its very high in calories. I am concerned about putting on weight this pregnancy. My obstetrician does not think i should put on any. i hope not. Anyone got any tips?? -
I won't say I dtold you so coz I pretty much did the same thing, I went on mushies after about a week, then started eating normal foods. I think if you aren't pbing and you are chewing well you should be fine. Don't worry too much, any normal person would be craving real food after a week. If you are worried, maybe call your doctor or your dietician. How long were you instructed to stay on liquids/mushies for? Good luck:thumbs_up:

great news Damo. I hated Optifast but the good thing about it is it gives you a kick start to weight loss. I lost 8 kilos on the pre op diet and it made a difference in my mind going into surgery 8 kilos lighter...sounds silly I know LOL Godo luck and congrats xx

try making spaghetti bolognese with lots of mince and veges, especially mushrooms. Then blend the sauce and add it to Pasta. I do this for my son to get him to eat veges and I found it was a good way for me to eat meat. I am not sure if you have a slow cooker, but they are great. I make stew and cook it for 8 hours and the meat is so tender and easy to eat. I swore never to drink another Protein shake again and I refuse to. I find chicken thigh is easy for me to eat or mayble some salmon. Good luck:thumbs_up:

I have vegimite and butter on cruskits for lunch quite often. Crsukits are really yummy and easy to eat. I sometimes have two with avocado and vegemite, its delish

Hi, I'm new + Emotional eating questions
Cherry_Blue replied to Jelly's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I found out that the lap band doesn't magically cure your emotional reasons for being overweight. There were some times, at the beginning of being banded, usually at that time of the month where i had over eaten icecream, knowing I would puke it up but really wanting it, so i ate it anyway It is only recently that i have dealt with my issues that led me to being over weight. I have started seeing a dietician which has really helped and I have also given up smoking, which has been great too. I joined a gym recently and have actually started to enjoy being fit and healthy. Its a good feeling. I don't know about anyone else, but i found that as the weight went, i started to feel more confident and my emotional eating issues gradually went away. Good luck in whatever you decide:smile2: -
I was keen on joining curves, but i found out they don't have a creche for my son to go to, otherwise I would have loved to join, it seems like a great place. Hope you guys do well:thumbup: I joined a gym recently where they also have a pool, I enjoy swimming, and also doing body pump classes:thumbs_up:

Good luck jess. It sounds like you are just over filled, the same thing happened to me and all I could eat was rice crakers (what is with that:huh2:) I had some taken out and am feeling fine. I was pbing everything, except Water and rice crackers for over a week. I was addicted to the weight loss (naughty me). I then realised that the wieght loss wasn't real anyway, it was just Fluid (unfair) Anyway, i am now under restricted (unfair) and trying to hold off getting any more fill for a couple of weeks as i feel I need to rest my body and my band........:tongue2: Good luck, i am sure you will be fine. Tuesday will come pretty quick -
Ok its been nearly 2 weeks since my unfil and I have only put on 500grams, which I think I can write off as Fluid as I couldn't eat or drink anything before. I have been getting more hungry and eating alot more, but I have also been exercising and choosing the right type of foods. I really want more restriction but I am scared I will go back to being over full again. This is the 3rd time I have had liquid taken out so pretty much this is my spot, anymore makes me not eat. I had 1ml taken out and now have 4ml. What do I do, do I battle on and give it some time? i spose atthis stage I am happy to lose 1kilo a month, any loss is fine, I just want to be able to eat, ateast something, what do i do?

Greeneyes. Good to hear you are on the mend. I can understand you must be feeling so frustrated with your recovery, but hang in there. A friend of mine went through the same thing many years ago and it was a battle but she did get there. try not to let it get you down. And 33 kilos is great weight loss, well done:thumbup: I know what it feels like to think people are looking at you and I know this is easy for me to say, but walk with your head held high, be proud and just say "fuc* em". Good luck

Thanks Jack, that makes alot of sense. I will admit to knowingly eating icecream when I was over filled and knowing I would puke it up. It only happened the once, but its not a good thing to do on purpose:blink: I have found that now I actually eat healthier, before I would drink alot of juice and milk as it was all i could get down, now I do eat salads etc. I have never seen a dietician through my whole lapband experience, where others seem to have done so. I have made an appointment for next week to see one, I think I need some food advice as I have never been taught how to eat properly. Hopefully I can get back on track

A friend of mine in the U.S got refused coverage for her lap band as they told her it was a pre existing condition. She had seen a doctor prior to taking out her cover about getting her lap band..........I know we are different here, thank goodness:thumbup: But I didn'tthink that was fair. I mean every person who has a lap band has been overweight for a long time, so I guess we all could be classified as pre existing. Anyway, I am with HBF, they covered me, I had a gap of about 2 grand all up. Good luck.

I Wade. i am not sure why we are all so different, it can be very confusing can't it. All I know is that for me, i would rather beable to eat than not, I have to eat solid foods, so I prefer to be underfilled than over filled. I can pretty much eat anything now, apart from bread and chicken. I can eat really good steak, as long as it is rare and good quality. I had a small one last night, it was heaven. Good luck on Thursday, I hope it goes well, keep us posted. I didn't have to wait long from my first appointment till op, I think all up it was 5 weeks and I could have gotten in earlier if I wanted to. good luck again

How did you feel going to a resturant?
Cherry_Blue replied to phili's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Thats great advice Miss P. Since having some Fluid taken out of my band, I feel like I can eat more, but I also feel more satisfied and less inclined to crave sweet, bad foods. I have been to a buffet once and it was a bit daunting, but I just sampled everything and left feeling very content. I think everyone will find the foods that agree with them and the foods that won't. I was never a salad lover before, but now I love eatingthem and they really satisfy me. Its all a matter of finding what is good for you and what you like. -

I have just got back home after eating out. We went to the Wembley foodhall (not sure if yo know it) but they have a great Malaysian Hawker shop and I gotthe yummiest Curry Laksa. I could only eat just under half of it, and my husband finished it, but I felt so content.....YAY If you haven't tried it and like Asian food, give it a go:thumbup: -
Yep, after weeks of battling with being unable to eat solid food and experiencing severe heart burn practically all day, i had an unfil. I now have 4ml instead of 5. i am so worried I am gonna put on weight but I just could not manage with the restriction before. I was vomitting 5 times a day, even when drinking Water. Is it normal to have so much restriction from so little Fluid?:rolleyes2:
-
Hi Wade. Hope you are doing well. I used to be a big beer drinker and I was a bit sad not being able to drink it since banding. I found though that my tastes have changed. i have a southern comfort and coke zero every night. I make sure the coke zero is a bit flat. I have to drink it on an empty stomache, but it does satisfy me. I drink wine too, I find red wine gives me heartburn but white wine is fine. I know some people who can still drink beer post op, so you may be able to, just less of it. try not to think too hard as everyone is different. i am feeling super positive again after having some fill taken out. I can eat normal food, just less of it now. I think its a matter of finding that perfect amount of Fluid......I am sure it will all turn out for you, whever your decision xx:smile2:

an update. Since having some of my fill taken out, I feel like a new person No more heartburn and i have so much more energy. yesterday i swam 5 kms. i am able to eat more but I still have restriction and am making healthier choices. I have been eating a boiled egg for Breakfast and a yoghurt, for lunch I have been having 2 cruskits with avocado and for dinner a small portion of whatever i am making my boys. I am so happy I can now eat normal food, just less of it. Yay me:thumbup: I weighed myself today and found I have actually lost a little bit. i know its still early but its encouraging. My advice to anyone who is overfillled to get some taken out, I never want t o go through that feeling again. Thanks evreyone:smile2:

I always order the Soup, I think its always a safe bet. Quite often i can't finish it, but atleast it won't get stuck and its always cheap:smile2: When I was first banded, my husband always ate my left overs as to avoid attention being placed on me as to why i wasn't eating it all. I have since gotten over that and I know when to stop. I think everyone gets to learn what is good, safe food for them. For me, its calamari. Yeh for some reason, I find eating calamari quite easy. i can have an entre size serv and be very content. -
Its 40 since pre op diet. i hated that optifast but man it gave me a head start lol:thumbup:
-
Thanks Fanny. I don't regret getting ittaken out. i have so much more energy and although I can eat more, I find i am actually eating quite healthy, so its all good. And when iw as over filled, i found myself drinking choc milk as it was all i coud eat and thats not good. I have lost 40 kilos so from now I am happy to lose 1kg a month, even if i don't lose any, as long as i don't gain. i joined the gym today, I am determined to lose more. Thanks for your support :rolleyes2:
-
Pigglet, you have done really well. 12 kilos may not seem like alot, but atleast you know that hose are 12 kilos you will never have to lose again. So keep it up and it does gett better and easier. Try notto make my mistake and get over filled, I was so deprived of nutrients that I got sick and depressed. keep it up, 12 kilos is great . I was banded in Jan and have lost 43, you will too inno time xx:thumbs_up:

kalipso. I understand what you are saying. i was pbing so much that in some way i felt that it had become part of me. I would eat knowing i would be sick. I could not even hold down any Water before 2pm.....and at night i would be in pain from heartburn. My throat was sore, i was a real mess. I denied I had a problem because I didn't want to get any taken out because i didn't want to put back on any weight. It was my husband who got upset when we went out for our anniversary dinner and i had to puke after eating one spoon full of Soup. What made me upset is when i went to teh doctor for the unfill yesterday, he gave me a bit of attitude, like i am in some way letting down the team. he warned me that taking Fluid out would mean i would put on weight. I told him i had to eat, if I can't eat anything then surely its too tight. He wasn't happy, but he took some out. I am determined to eat healthy and not put on weight. i will give it a couple of months and maybe go back for a small fill. Thanks for replying Kalipso, made me feel better. Am feeling kinda alone lately.

Thanks kalipso. I am really worried. I was pbing up to 4 times a day and had such bad heartburn. I am so down because i really want to lose more but I also want to be able to eat atleast something eithout puking it back up.
