Protein and calorie deficits after surgery

Thanks, guys. I did go to a center of excellence. I'm not sure what the difference is between my surgeon and the asmbs suggestions, but I have upped my Protein and feel a ton better. I track my food every day and when I start getting more nutrients from food, I'll start tapering the supplements. I think listening to my body is the right choice, here.

Protein and calorie deficits after surgery

Oh man, so much better today. Cheated and drank part of an isopure. I feel bad breaking my surgeons rule, but I feel so much better physically and emotionally. Got 52 grams of protein in with the little extra that I had. This is really hard to manage. My surgeon is a hardass, and usually, so am I. There has been very little pain or discomfort to this surgery, it's been the physical feelings of adjustment to nutritional needs. My activity level is already high; 10,000 steps is a normal day off for me, much more when I work or have school, so I feel like my body just didn't adjust to lack of nutrients. I've always reacted emotionally to things like this. I know I'm dehydrated when I get weepy, lol. So I'll keep some protein as an emergency measure only if I feel the weepys coming on, a and otherwise I'll try my hardest to stick to the surgeons rules, as unusual as they are. Thanks for your support, you guys. I'm so glad to have you all.

Full liquids. Cottages cheese, yourt, cream soups, etc. If I eat cottage cheese and yogurt at every meal I can get to around 30, I'd get 42 of I were able to do 4 ounces at every meal but sometimes you just can't, you know?

I wouldn't be worried about the calorie deficits if I weren't taking in so little Protein. I'm concerned about burning muscle rather than fat. No protein powders, shakes, nothing I can't get from food. (Which I'm all for once I can take in more than 2-4 ounces at a time)

Well I called and talked to him and he says this is emotional, it's all in my head and I don't need anymore protein than I'm already getting.I can't be at school or work like this, but he says I need to go to get past this. I'm feeling so confused.
  6. I'm 9 days postop and have been getting back to my preop activity levels, since I need to be back at work and school tomorrow. My surgeon specifically prohibits protein supplements. I've been tracking my protein and calories. The problem is that I'm getting around 400 calories a day and expending 500ish just through regular activity. My protein is around 20-30 grams a day. I'm a shaky, grumpy, tear-filled mess and a tough semester of school and work restart for me tomorrow. Anyone else been in this boat? Should I call to beg my surgeon for protein?

  9. I just got approval through my insurance to begin a 6 month doctor assisted weight loss program leading to weight loss surgery. It was weird since my policy specifically excludes ANY weight loss treatment (even doctors visits!), but if I called them and signed up, it was all be covered. (Who knew?) While I'm only 100 pounds overweight (only. huh.) I've been trying for years to lose weight. My dad had gastric bypass surgery several years ago and it was life changing for him. My husband is supportive, but skeptical. My friends are all supportive but so far most of them tell me that they didn't think I was that overweight. Apparently I carry it well. Or they are all really good liars. I do have severe apnea and I'm really hoping that this will be the way to fix it since I have difficulty complying with my cpap. It either gets ripped off in my sleep or I swallow air and can self propel via gas for the rest of the day. I have my first visit with my PCP next week to get started. I'm really excited for this because until now no insurance I have had would cover this procedure. I'm looking forward to being active without pain, wearing nice clothes, and generally being visible again. I do have some concerns, such as my bmi is 36.8 and I have to have a bmi of 35 to qualify. While I plan to take the weight loss program seriously, I'm concerned about dropping just enough weight to disqualify myself (I've been here before) just to put it back on again. How much am I expected to lose in the 6 months? Do they just need to see progress? If anyone has any good advice for starting out, please let me know!
