I posted this on the preop forum but I'll put it here too. Does anyone have bcbstn and can tell me if the precert is all that needs to be sent in with the 5 year history? I heard someone say there had to be drs notes showing the appointments but when I call bcbs they said the precert should be all. Im looking for someone who's been through this already. Please help!!

I was told I needed Dr's notes to support the history but I spoke with Blue Cross and they said the precert is all I need. Anyone know for sure? Please Help!!

Welcome welcome! I am relatively new to my Journey as I have my first appt with the surgeon in two weeks, but imso excited and can't wait to get the ball rolling. I already have everything done other than my psych consult which is the week following my appt. I can't wait to be on the "losers bench"!!! -
Seminar scheduled for June 8th.

First of all I want to congratulate you on making the decision to take your life back. I recently went to the seminar and they were very informative as far as what the surgery entails and what surgeries are available. They went over briefly about insurance companies and what they may or may not require to approve the surgery. Afterwards they had a desk set up for initial appointment times if you wanted to make one. Mine was September 17 which was disheartening but I called them 3 or 4 different times and they had some cancellations so I got moved up to June 17th! I'm very excited and cant wait to get the ball rolling!! -
Ok everyone I have a question. I have a BMI of 40.8 and im getting close to my first appt with my surgeon. Everyone I speak to is telling me I don't look like I need the surgery. They say I don't look big enough even I tell them I hide it by wearing big clothes. My question is, is it possible for the surgeon to refuse to do the surgery even though I meet the requirements of my insurance? Im terrified he'll think the same as everyone else...

Thanks so much! I have been freaking myself out with wondering if my insurance would cover until I remembered I could log on to my benefits online and look at the policy, and YES!!!! it does cover it. This makes me sooo happy. I am just sooo ready to take back my life and enjoy it with my family!! -
Good luck to you, how exciting!!

Hello all. I am new to this so please bear with me. My name is Beau and I am a Paramedic in Illinois. I am overweight and have been my entire adult life. I have recently decided to take my life back and get the sleeve gastrectomy. I am still in the very early stages as I have just gotten my referral from my Dr. to see the surgeon. I still have a lot to do including going to the weight loss seminar, labs, endoscopy, and of course I still have to find out if my insurance will cover it. I have BCBS so I am hoping it will as my BMI is over 40 and I have at least 2 comorbidities. I have never been a member of a forum before so it kind of feels strange telling strangers about my weight, but it feels kind of like a weight is lifted off of my shoulders at the same time talking to others with the same issues. I must admit that the thought of having this surgery both excites, and scares me at the same time. Does anyone else feel like this? I have so many emotions going on lol. I do have a question as well. is it true that you can potentially get a surgery date in as little as a month?
