In the first few days of my new life...
Gaelsmom replied to hcwild's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I took a 4 hour nap today and not sure how I'm going back to work on Monday. But to answer your question, the doc told me to fuel before the walk. So I drink part of a Protein shake, wait 30 minutes and then do the walk. I actually get energy from it. But I also have pain at the upper abdomen and it hurts to breathe in deep. But I get past that stage after ten min. I take an easy walk and then come back and fuel again or sleep. Lol Even after six weeks or so, the doc recommended that to get past any workout we need to fuel ahead of it rather than after since our intake is limited. -

I had bad gas pains for four days and today is my eight day post surgery and I'm finally able to drink like I used to, just not the same volume. Hang in there. Also try some sugar free popsicles. I had my first today and wish I had done it sooner. Good luck gensjourney! -
Kstuz, Any tips? What has worked for you? You look incredible.

#nprcowboy, I'm truly sorry for what your wife is going through.

In the first few days of my new life...

Leolar and Solly33 There are a lot of emotions that you go through. Instances such as watching food network at my son's doctors office and being like I can never enjoy trying out all these recipes if i go through this. Or the mere fact that going out to a restaurant will never be the same again or that Sunday BBQ. I'm a foodie. And that part of my identity will forever be gone. And the first few days after surgery, I did have regrets. And others I know did too. I think this process is the hardest thing I have ever done. But I know why I am here. I know that eight weeks ago, I was in food coma, couldn't fit any clothes or had the energy or desire to take my toddler to the park. I was absolutely miserable. And today, post surgery, I have taken him out nearly every day to the park for hours to play. And soon, when cleared, I'll be able to run after him and not sit on the sidelines of his life or my life. At my biggest, I had stopped being an active participant in life. Now, food is no longer as big of a focus. Everything else is including my health, my job prospects and most importantly my family. Make sure this is right for you. There's no going back. What do I miss so far? Chugging Water on a hot day. Lol. Silly but that's all I want. Good luck to you both. We are all here if you need us. -

Emma4884, I'm sorry to hear that. You have gotten over that hurdle and you will get through this time. It will be worth it. Try to experiment with the liquids. Take it one day at a time. -

Isn't it to soon for black bean soup? I can't have that until week 3. I couldn't get myself to buy the pudding. Lol. -
Excited, nervous, anxious, happy and all that jazz. All of your posts, successes, frustrations and mistakes have helped in making this an easier transition time. So thank you everyone.

I made that jello but I just can't get past one tablespoon. Also my taste buds have changed. Anyone else? I seem to want savory over sweet. I was the opposite pre-op. The idea of a chocolate chip cookie seems awful. But some chowder right now, that would be awesome. -

Do any of you immediately burp after taking a sip of any fluid? I'm going to ask the doc. One sip of water followed by three burps. Lol. -
In the first few days of my new life...
Gaelsmom replied to hcwild's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My follow up is tomorrow. I have lost 4lbs since surgery. It took a while to get the extra 6/7lbs that I gained from IV fluids off. I had cream of chicken soup today. I had a hard time figuring out when I was full. And if it was up to me, I would live off of that rather than protein shakes. But there was no protein in it and I realized by 4pm today I had no protein. I don't think I can meet my protein requirement today. I'm trying to get 30 grams in at least. -

Do any of you know how long it takes for the incisions to heal overall? We should start a group either here or on FB for August sleevers. -

Sleeved the same day. I can't tell the difference at certain times between head hunger and hunger. I can ignore the images but I was making my son chicken and I believe I had real hunger. I don't know. It seems all unreal. And yet I can't wait to have food. I'm starting to hate whey protein. Tomorrow I can have some strained soup which is exciting! Good luck to you both!!! -
You look great tiger2015. So much change in a short time!

@@lachellove how are you feeling?@@Gaelsmom how are you feeling? I'm feeling okay the hardest thing for me mentally is blood clots and pneumonia haven't had time to care about not eating lolHi guysI think today had been my best day. I walked about four miles and haven't taken five naps through the day or had the bad gas pain through my shoulders. I'm having a hard time taking in fluids. I tried to eat jello but could only do one tablespoon. I'm not hungry but my sense of smell and memories are strong. I just want to be able to drink normally, especially on a hot day. I just can't wait til I'm weeks out so I can get active without being tired. This is a slow road to recovery ... I'm already wishing my two weeks go by fast .. Yes. I feel the same way about getting active. I walked as slow as a turtle and preop I was jogging here and there. Are you taking in b12 to keep your energy up?

Hi My pre-surgery weight was 254 and upon discharge 261. It has taken two days to go down to 255. Is this normal? Did anyone lose weight before their 1 week post op? Thanks
-
Thanks everyone. It's mind boggling given the limited nature of fluids yet you gain. Hopefully the scale will start tipping in the right direction.

Thank you all. Good luck Klo319 and lachellove!!!

I think it's a natural reaction, especially when you have insecurities. If both me and hubby were obese and he lost all the weight, I know for a fact that I would start thinking why would he want to stay with me? In fact, hubby lost nearly 100lbs as did I ( I put it all back on). And even though we have a solid relationship, my overeating, not being able to keep up with our son, or have the energy to be out and about, or feeling confident to get in the sack, has impacted my family. That was definitely the case after food coma. And even though my husband has never been anything but supportive and loving, I still feel insecure. There's nothing he can say or do to change that because it's on me. But now, oddly with the pre- op weight loss and upcoming surgery, I can tell he is going through his set of insecurities. The only advice I have is to enjoy your family and don't try to convince him. It will resolve over time.

Hi, My surgery is set for next Wednesday!!! I was wondering if anyone wore any type of abdominal support post- surgery or if there's anything I can wear under work garments when I return to work? Any recommendations would be appreciated!

Fruit Juice Protein Drinks?
Gaelsmom replied to magicalwoman's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm going to look for Syntrax. I like Isopure ready mixed drinks. Grape is currently my fav. They are expensive but treat myself to one a day. -
Any sleevers who do crossfit? Or some form of body building. Is it possible to gain muscle after the sleeve or take on hard workouts with the limited food? I know people have run marathons. But what about gaining muscle? @wanting to be strong and fit post sleeve!

Heck when I was dieting I got within 50lbs of goal. I couldn't fit anything beyond a 12 and people thought I was getting too skinny. It's perception and comparison to where you started. You look amazing and those arms!!!
