twirl I don't think you are to old to get the lap band. I was 67 when I got my band and feel better every day. I have a number of medical problems and just had a nuclear stress and follow up blood work and both doctors said I was doing great. I started at 300 lbs and went into surgery at 265 and as of today I am 209 and it will be 1 year on new years eve. I even went back to work after being retired for two years. You must be proud of you age and go forward with any thing that will help you. If this will give you more time with your family and love ones go for it. Find a good Lap Band Surgeon and explain everything to them and listen to their advice. Best of luck and Gods Speed.

I'm 67 and will be 68 on the 22nd of this month. I had my surgery on new years eve and have lost more than 40 Lbs in the last eight months. I've had some problems but they were me doing something wrong. Eating to fast or not chewing to much, also eating during a stressful situation. Also I seen postings from people in there 70's that are doing will with the band. So let don't listen to people, do your home work and make the decision and go with it. I know I did and have never looked back or regretted it.

    Where's the support?

We have a large group at the South Texas Surgeons here in San Antonio. We have a very active web site and monthly meetings, both are very active. Check out the surgeons web site and it has a link to the support group. Don't let them get you down, there are a lot of us here to help.
  6. Just took my time on the walking. As it comes off the knees and back will let stop hurting and the stride will stretch out. Then you can add more and more to the distance. When I first started it was good to get through a mile at a good pace. The one thing that helped me the most was a suggestion from my youngest. Go buy you a real good pair of running shoes. She took me to New Balance and they fitted me with a pair of 768's with arched insteps. This really helped the legs and knees. The worst part of my surgery was the "Hard Rock" was at street level directly under my room. I was on the 19th floor but the aroma from the burgers came into my room and drove me crazy all night. All I could have was liquids and jello.
  7. Old Goat, Hang in there its worth the problems that are put in the way. I'm 67 and retired and have a beautiful wife and two daughters with their own families. Also have two grandsons and one grandaughter to keep me going. I am 6'1" and my heaviest was 300 Lb, with hight BP, a stent in RCA bad knees, and on 5 meds. I had my surgery on 12/31/07 at Nix Hospital in San Antonio, Tx. I am now at 213 and doctor has taken me off of 2 meds and reduced one to once a day. I now can walk my 4 miles with no pain in my back or knees and still get the honey do's done for the wife. As far as and old goat status, as the wight comes off the younger you act.

Hello everyone, I have not been around for a while. I felt so good I went back to work. It felt good after not doing anything but work around the house. It involved a lot of travel and some physical work also. I was doing really good until I started having some light headed spells. This was not good because I was on roofs and ladders a lot. I had to come home and check in with my doctor. Found out I've lost enough that my blood pressure was real low. We are working on the meds to see if we can get is regulated again. I will check in when I can. Hope everyone has a great summer. Gene
  9. I slept on my stomach after the second night. The only problem I have is if I lift something and it rests on the port area it gets sore. This will sometime bother me when I lie on my stomach. Gene

    I Had a Problem

I had a problem, my wife kept complaining my breath was bad and I had body odor since my Lap band surgery. I happen to mention it to my daughter who is a physical trainer and she said it is the fat your body is burning. She recommended I start taking Chlorophyll and mint. I started taking it the next day and the problem has gone away. I no longer have the body odor or bad breath.

So... what do you fellas do?

I retired after 35 years with Lockheed Martin as a military contractor. My last job for them was to design install and maintain an Audio Visual system in a multi-use facility. The system collected data from various equipments and we could record or display this in a number of locations. I tried retirement for two (2) years and got bored. I'm now doing catastrophic adjusting to stay busy.

    Lap Banding and Medicare

Hi Markie, Medicare took care of my surgery and yes you have to stay overnight. You also have to be in a COE, do some other required things. Good Luck, it is worth it. Gene
