  1. Totally understand about your desire to get away from the protein shakes/bars, but I'm the total opposite. It's crazy, because I'll get up and make my kids eggs and bacon, but I have a very difficult time consuming anything like that anymore since surgery. I have three breakfast staples I choose from on almost a daily basis: Greek yogurt w/ a scoop of quality protein powder and either flax or chia seeds!; a Quest protein bar if I need something more solid and two three times a week I add a protein shake as a late breakfast kicker to help load up on my protein goal for the day. Once a week I add a fruit and protein smoothie to the mix. I may eat a small serving of oatmeal or high fiber cereal occasionally, but I'm always cautious about the sugar and carbohydrates associated with those last two. Like many have said in this topic, experiment with what makes you feel good about eating breakfast and as long as it keeps you on track for you WL goals you will be fine.
  2. Looking for suggestions on a good high quality probiotic. I'm not having any issues, but from what I have read it can certainly be beneficial to a post WLS patient like me.
  3. Interesting, have to wonder just how many medical conditions are caused by obesity and what all could be delayed or prevented.

    Sodas

I grew up drinking Coke and sweet tea ( a total southern thing) and while I would have an occasional soda during a meal over the years, I grew out of really liking or needing the carbonation from Coke and soda. I really thought sweet tea was a much better (healthier) option than soda and it became my "poison" of choice when I turned 30. Prior to surgery last August, I really felt tea would be the hardest thing for me to give up. It's just so much a part of our culture here in Alabama and I had been drinking it daily for so long. Was I ever wrong....since surgery I haven't had any desire for it nor the associated caffeine that comes along its it. I think I've had maybe two glasses of unsweetened tea and that's it. I don't even consider a Coke or anything carbonated an option (but I do miss a cold beer sometimes when others are drinking). My day starts and ends with water and it's rare I have anything else (other than some unsweetened almond milk). One other aspect to my surgery is that my kids have really slowed down on their request for soda and since I don't buy it anymore for consumption around the house, they only get it occasionally when we eat out.

    Tri Care

I used Tri-Care Prime for my surgery and had zero issues with it. I also had a supplemental and that helped as well. As long as you meet the required medical conditions and your surgeons office keeps the paperwork and information straight, you should be fine.
  6. I use to be a seriously hot, sweaty, "it can't be cold enough" male. Totally the opposite of my wife who rarely sweated and needed a warm blanket throughout the year. Five months beyond surgery and it's a total role reversal. I love cold weather, but I definitely get cold these days and layer up way more than I ever did. Have a minimum of two blankets on the bed and my wife complains I keep it too warm in the house. Great not being a total sweat monster anymore.
  7. I'm still on a pretty heavy Protein kick. I "front load" a lot of my protein early in the day with Greek yogurt (and a scoop of high quality protein) and either a Protein shake or Quest Protein Bar. I haven't found a ready made protein shake I can tolerate, so I mix my own with unsweetened almond milk. The one food group I'm enjoying more of is fresh fruit, but it has to be cold and I keep the portion size very reasonable.

    Food at work?

I always have some almonds handy, but I like a good Quest protein bar or some Greek yogurt with a scoop of vanilla protein.
  9. Eggs could have easily made my list. Pre-surgery I was all over an omelet or anything egg. Now I have a hard time stomaching them at all. Ice cream as well, still crave it at times ( only one or two flavors...weird), but only a very small amount and nothing other than a premium brand otherwise I get very sick.
  10. Chad, I was 49 when I had RNY last August, best decision I have ever made concerning my health. I was 331lbs on the day of surgery and suffered from Type 2 diabetes and high blood pressure as my weight spun out of control. The day after surgery I stopped taking medication for both conditions and have never needed it since then. Had a physical two days ago as I prepare for some overseas travel and my BP and blood sugar levels were excellent. I'm down to 228lbs as of today and feel great. Good luck on your journey.

    Scary straight

I do occasionally. I use it as a reminder to stay focused on not only eating healthy, but being healthy. I'm never going back....that's my final decision.

    VERY Rumble-y Gut

Five months post RNY and I've come to accept it. It gets loud enough sometimes that it even scares the cat if she's near me. I suspect some of the dairy (Greek yogurt) I eat may have something to do with it, but it doesn't cause me any pain. Generally a little water helps it go away.
  13. Same with my secondary. No issues.

    jerkey

Before surgery I loved it, but since then not so much. I think my increased sensitivity to sodium has turned me off to it.

    I'm finally warm!

Use to be my wife's personal heater before my surgery and the heat made me miserable. Now days, she's the one sweating and I'm the one looking for a blanket or sweater. My how times have changed.
  16. Karl, You shouldn't have any issues with these and they should help get your issues solved. Are you eating any yogurt post surgery?

    Anyone go through Tricare Prime?

Im retired Army and used my Tricare Prime for RNY during August. As your PCP has probably explained, Tricare requires two or more medical conditions to qualify for this procedure. I had to have three successive visits with my bariatric surgeon and nutritionalist (had to show weight loss progress over that three month period). Once the three visits were completed, it took less than a week for Tricare approval. Best decision I've ever made, down 70lbs in just over two months. Just make sure you pick a good surgeon that you are comfortable with. Good luck.

    Clothing

Walked into one of my favorite stores yesterday to buy some better fitting slacks for work and guess what....my new size is no longer in the big and talll section. 70 days post op and down almost 70 pounds. I'm still a work in progress, but it's been a great journey so far.
  19. I don't think it's abnormal in your case with your diet. Make sure you are getting your required water in so it doesn't dehydrate you. At two months post op, I go about twice a week. If you're "moving", you're "losing" and that's our goal. It should decrease as you transition to more solid foods.
  20. I have 10-15 pair of good quality, very gently worn shorts in size 48 ( may have a couple of 46" sizes In the lot). Colors include; grey, black, white, blue and khaki. Asking $25.00 for the lot and you cover the shipping. Easily $200.00 or more in value for these. A lot of these have a flexible waistband. Message me if you are interested. If you live near Huntsville, Al we can probably meet and save shipping.

    Men's Shorts

Hey folks, I no longer have these shorts.
  22. My story update: 10 Aug RNY. Have lost over 50 lbs and feel great!
  23. Niki, At two weeks post op did your surgeon okay bread and peanut butter? I'm a week post op and on week two I start puréed foods for about a four week period. Have to wonder if your temptation to satisfy a craving was the reason for your pain. Stick to your doctors plan if you deviated by eating this food today. Feel better
  24. RNY on Aug 10th and have lost over 20lbs since coming home on the 11th. I was allowed to sip my protein shakes right from the start along with all the water I could handle...wondering if that and the fact I was able to start walking almost immediately has helped. I don't expect this rate to continue, but I'm heading for the 200 club and darn happy about it.
  25. Heading in this morning for my bypass. The time has flown by since I started this process back in February. Good luck to all of my fellow Aug 10th surgery peeps and thanks to all on this site who have been so helpful and encouraging.
