Does the G sleeve work after having the band?
lexiemia replied to certifiedcoder's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I had my band in 2004 in 2014 it slipped. I quickly gained 89 lbs. may 28 of 2015 I was converted to a sleeve. I have lost 71 lbs so far but the gastric reflux has been so severe that I wake up at night gurgling on fluid. Last Thursday I was converted to bypass had the hiatal hernia repaired and my gallbladder taken out. So far doing well and no reflux but I am still on clear liquids. If you have reflux issues now that was caused by the band I would have bypass. -

I buy my syntrax at vitamin Shop. They will take it back if you don't like it. I returned my fuzzy navel and got the vanilla bean torte. The sales person told me the difference in the matrix is it has a lot more sugar and less protein. -
Caffeine is an appetite stimulant.

I notice I tend to get irritable when I need to eat.

Another Lap Band vs. Sleeve question..
lexiemia replied to Leesa926's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
A lot of Drs won't even do the band any more because of the complication rates. I had my band for 11 years. I had multiple problems over the years but learned to live with them because it allowed me to remain thin. Finally the band slipped and they took all the saline out. I gained back 87 lbs of the 100 lbs I had lost with the band. With the band I had sliming, vomiting, and food stuck. I had GERD so bad my bed was on 6 in blocks and I slept on 5 pillows basically sitting up. My lower back and hips were giving me a fit from the pressure of the way I had to sleep. I didn't realize how bad my symptoms were until I had the band removed. I am surprised that the band is even still on the market. I also have a friend that has a band and her port has flipped and can no longer be accessed. I don't regret having the band but can't say I would recommend it to any one. When I had my band the sleeve was not an option. I was sleeved on May 28 and band removed. I have lost 22 lbs. I have had no more vomiting. The only regret I have is not having this done sooner. Good luck with your journey. -
I never tried mashed potatoes. I am only allowed sweet potatoes. Was only able to eat a few bites of a baked sweet potato but it was so good. I had my protein first of course.

Oh yes if you can be revised to a sleeve. It is so worth it. Had my revision May 28 th. I had my band for 11 years. You have none of the misery that you have with the band. No more sliming, vomiting, stuck food. After my band slipped they took all the saline out. I regained 87 lbs. it took me a year before I could get my revision because we were in the middle of a move and I had to find a new surgeon and then jump through all the insurance hoops. I wish I could have done it sooner is my only regret. I am 4 weeks post op and down 21 lbs.

I hear dr Velarde is suppose to be good. I have an awesome Dr in Jupiter. -
You may be losing inches without the scale moving. I know this has been true for me.

I have tried a lot of protein shakes. The only one I have found that I can tolerate is the syntrax nectar vanilla and chocolate. I mix it with unsweetened almond milk and ice in the blender.

Success with sleeve after band failure?
lexiemia replied to bhopeful's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I had band to sleeve revision May 28. I love my sleeve. It is so different than the band. I wish I had done this years ago. My band slipped MAy 2014 they removed all the saline and I gained back 87 lbs of the 100 that I had lost with the band. I am 4 weeks post op today with the sleeve and I have lost 19 lbs. I think it's going to be a slow steady losing pace but I am also learning good eating habits along the way. I also am 50. -
What Peach said and also find you a summer hobby or maybe even a part time job. Something to keep you busy so you don't think about food so much.

Searching experienced sleevers opinion

I had a band for 11 years. I lost 100 lbs with the band and kept it off until my band failed. I gained back 87 lbs. I had revision surgery on May 28. The recovery was much easier than with the band. After I came home I didn't take any pain meds. I have lost 18 lbs. the sleeve is a lot different than the band. No stuck food. No vomiting or sliming. I am so glad I had the sleeve. I know it may take me time but as long as I follow my plan I know I will get back to my goal. I say go for it. I don't think you will regret it. -

Up until last Aug. I lived in Cape Coral and worked in Ft. Myers. I was going to see Dr. Bass when my band slipped but I knew we were moving and I wanted to wait and get a dr where we moved so I could do the support groups. I use to work for Lee Memorial. I miss the other coast but not "season". Lol. I wish you the best of luck with your journey. -
I have to say giving up Diet Pepsi was a miracle for me. I also quit caffeine altogether as well. I did all that the month prior to surgery. It was not as hard as I had thought it would be. I don't really miss it now. I am willing to give up what ever I need to be thin again. The hardest part for me was giving up pizza. As far as the emotional eater that's one you will have to deal with. You may even need to see a therapists to see why you do this and how to break the habit. You may want to look into some new hobbies so you have alternatives to turn to when you want to eat and its not a meal time. I wish you lots of luck.

Terrified I can eat to much

Dense proteins are protein that is heavier and will stay in your sleeve longer. Such as chicken or fish as opposed to say yogurt. -
Kiki, I am right there with you. Lap band, lost 100 lbs then my band slipped. I was converted to sleeve on May 28. So far I have lost 18lbs. i am so glad to have that port out. No more stuck food and vomiting. I just hate that now I have to lose this weight once again. This time will be for good. Sticking to this plan forever. So far the hardest part is giving up my Diet Pepsi and bread. I wish you both great success and I hope your revision goes as smooth as mine has.

My surgery was May 28. I have lost 18 lbs. I think its ok weight loss. With the sleeve the weight comes off slower than with the bypass. Just be patient and follow your plan. -
Mzstockton, where in Florida are you from? Im in Port Saint Lucie.

Someone should report him to the medical board at the hospital. Let them deal with his rude disrespectful antics. -
I do have a small one that feels like a lump underneath. I think it might be internal sutures.

Miss Mac I noticed you mentioned an increase in your Wellbutrin. When I went to the doctor last time he changed me from Wellbitrin to a newer generation drug called Fetzima. It has really worked well for me. The Wellbutrin had got to where I felt that I needed to add something else with it so he wanted me to try this drug. I am really glad I tried it. I feel so much better now.
