  1. I am post op day 4 today. I went to my dr office today to buy some protein shakes and then we went to Costco and got some things. I am surprised how quick I have recovered. I do have to take frequent rest stops but have been able to do a lot more than I thought I would have. The first couple days were really rough because the nausea from the pain medication they gave me in recovery. We did not know I was allergic to it. So without that happening it would have been a lot easier. I was up walking in the hall that night and talking on the phone. Wish you lots of luck and a quick recovery.

    Drinking wine after surgery!

My brother in law had gastric bypass surgery. He lost 170lbs. Did pretty good until he started drinking wine again then he has put a good bit of weight back on. I think its a very slippery slope. I personally have gone through way too much to let something hinder me at this point. Wine has a lot of sugar in it. Which is nothing but carbs.

    Waiting for the call

I heard in two weeks. The dr office told me the insurance has up to 30 days to make a decision but they usually hear sooner than that.

    Great Snack Find

yes, too many carbs I think. Those snack foods are a slippery slope.
  6. The nausea is horrible and the zofran is not doing it for me. The pain is more like cramping and spasm. I hope everyone else that had surgery today is doing well.

    Surgery Tomorrow June 1

Good luck tomorrow. I know what you mean about being thirsty. I was told to be at the hospital at 10:00. They did not take me back to surgery until around 1:30. I was glad they did let me have some ice chips that evening but the nausea was so bad that I didn't even want to eat them. I hope things go smooth keep us posted. Chap stick or some sort of lip balm is a good idea.
  8. I am three days post op and don't have the energy to walk around. Has anyone else had this problem. I am getting some protein in and the liquids are a slow go.

My surgeon wants us to do all this walking. Its kind of hard to do when you have nothing to go on. Maybe it will get better as I am able to get in more protein.

    Help..3 pounds to go!

Do the liquid diet that you will be on after the surgery. That will get those three pounds off quick. It may make you really tired but it takes off the weight. Good luck.

    Reflux

My surgeon sent me home on nexium. He told me I have to take it every day for the first two months. Its a proton pump inhibitor which makes your body produce less stomach acids.
  11. google Dr Matthew Weiner he has a video that tells you the progression of how much food you will be able to eat over a period of a year. Please follow your food plan so you staple line has time to heal properly and you don't hurt yourself. I am not sure how much teaching the dr did with you but make sure you follow the Vitamin requirements or you can end up with medical issues.
  12. Maybe with the comorbidities you will get approved. I have Cigna also. I had a lap band that had slipped and wanted to convert to a sleeve. I did the 4 month diet that they required. When it was summited to insurance they approved the band removal but denied to sleeve procedure. My doctor called the doctor at cigna and did a peer to peer interview with them and got it approved. So it may have a lot to do with the way your doctor presents it to them. I wish you the best of luck and keep us posted.
  13. I know I need to be working on getting as much fluid in as I can since I just came home from the hosptial yesterday but all I want to do is sleep.

  15. I am glad you are seeking help. I worry about Paxil is know to cause weight gain. There are lots of antidepressants on the market that don't have that side effect. Speak with your doctor concerning that if you notice you are not able to lose weight or gain.

    Surgery done

I had my surgery yesterday and have had very little pain. It's mostly sore. Some times I have pain at the site where they took my port out. The best thing for you is to walk as much as you can. Wishing you all the best.
  17. Just got home from the hospital. Oh my goodness the nausea was horrific. I vomited blood. I have never had a surgery where I was miserable and could not even sleep. I had ice chips last night then on to a liquid tray at lunch today. I ate the jello but didn't want to push things. Home now and trying to drink crystal light. As far as pain goes I am just sore. Feels like I have been doing too many crunches. So now on to sip sip sip. I hope and pray I do well.

Yes, I vomited blood too. It is leftover from the surgery. Just sleep and sip. Sending love and prayers to you!

It's a tough first few weeks, keep it up, you're well on your way to feeling like you really belong on the other side. I also have some ideas for you re: post-op foods if you want them at barideliciousfood.blogspot.com

Glad to hear you are home all safe and sound. Taking things one day at a time is the way to go. Focus on sipping and walking and you will start feeling a little better everyday. The first 5 days are the worst

My surgeon said I will need to be on it for the first two months after surgery.
  21. I bought the syntrax nectar fuzzy navel this evening. It's a clear fruit drink mixed with water. I think it's pretty good. Also the premier already made shakes are pretty good.

    Hello everyone!

I am so sorry to hear that you have such insensitive coworkers. But you have made the right decision to come here. Every one is very supportive and always want to know how everyone is doing. It is a journey and we will all be here for you.
