It's so nice to meet you. My daughter in law just did lap to sleeve surgery on 5/13. She's doing very well. I am prescribed full liquids the day prior to surgery. I can't believe it's so close either. But I'm really looking forward to getting on the other side. I would love to keep in touch. Where are you located?
  2. Premier protein can be purchased at Costco or online. They have a few more product choices online. In Costco the only option is premade and only in chocolate and vanilla flavors.

    Multivitamins

I take Centrum Adult for my multivitamin. I just swallow them now and don't taste anything. The B1 is the gross one. That one you just have to get down as quickly as possible. My daughter in law likes the Centrum Chewables. She said they don't taste too bad. My NUT says post-op to cut the multivitamin in half to take it. She doesn't want us having anything larger than the size of an M&M.
  4. Bluesea, my surgeon is Dr. R. Li. I cannot thank you enough for sharing what you just did. I feel really good about the team there and it's wonderful to have some validation. Thank you so very much.

    Today's the day!

Thank you for sharing your story and including the updates. I'm pleased to hear you're doing well. I'm not nervous about the procedure either, I have complete faith in the bariatric team I have been working with. My nerves are about what my own personal pain will be like - you know, will it be as I'm expecting? I guess I will know on Thursday.

    Anyone going in tomorrow?

You may want to pick up or download The Emotional Toolkit. My psych recommended it to me and it helps get your emotions in check.

    Surgery May 26th! So nervous!

I'm nervous too. But I look at it this way... We spent X number of years to get us to this point. Having surgery will give us discomfort and difficulties for about 4-6 months. By then we will be back on more "normal" foods and well on our way to goal weight. Some folks have spent that amount of time just waiting for insurance to approve the procedure. We can do this and we will get through the recovery one day at a time.

To Catheter or Not to Catheter?

I'm being sleeved on 5/28 and during our pre-op class, we were told we would NOT have a catheter. The nurse explained that we would be asked to eliminate just before sedation and that they want us getting up and moving around as much as possible after surgery so they don't do it anymore. She also said we would be under for such a short period of time that we wouldn't need a catheter.
  9. It will really depend on your doctor, but losing weight is what they want you to do and following their plan causes weight loss. They also know you have issues, which is why they start you on the plan and then keep progressing. If you're worried, talk to your bariatric folks.

    Setting up my fitness pal

For the restaurant menus, I've found putting the name of the item and the restaurant name in the search tends to bring up the item.

    Terrified

I really like the Premier Protein ones. They have 30g of protein and only 1g of sugar. I buy mine online direct, but they can be found at Costco. My fave is the strawberries and cream. My daughter in law likes chocolate and vanilla. (She is a band to sleeve revision and had her surgery on 5/13/15.)
  12. The NUT and RN today both reinforced that everyone is different and everyone will have a different experience with food toleration. We were advised to not compare ourselves with others because we won't have an identical reaction. However, we can support one another through the ups and downs and we were encouraged to reach out anytime we got confused about our plan, etc. I'm sorry the OP felt as though her regular doc was not encouraging. Based on what you've shared, losing any weight is awesome! Keep getting in that Protein and the liquids.
  13. I'm scheduled for 5/28. Went through a 2 hour preop class today. My daughter in law had band to sleeve revision surgery last Wednesday (it was unanticipated). I feel pretty prepared for what to expect since I took care of my DIL and the nurses doing the education for my program are very detailed on what is going to happen before, during, and immediately following surgery. I've already purchased the stage 2 foods since I will be on stage 2 for 2 weeks. I'm sure I'll be more anxious next week. Good luck to all.

    Terrified

The folks here have provided you with solid support. I will add that you can try the Protein shakes now to see which ones you like best. There are many out there to try. Just make sure the ones you choose have 30+g of protein and very low sugar. My surgery is in a week and I'm nervous but mostly excited to get on to the path toward health.

    No Pre-Op Diet?

I've been on the 1200 calorie diet and have lost 14lbs. I was instructed to do full liquids the day prior to surgery and nothing after midnight.
  16. I've been very compliant and honest through the process. I believe it's been a smooth process because I'm not dealing with sleep apnea and I don't smoke. If I was dealing with either of those issues, I would have needed to use a cpap, without removing the mask while sleeping for a minimum of two months and quit smoking. As it was I had to give up caffeine and sugar and change the way I eat and my portions. I didn't have too much trouble with that although I slipped once or twice with sugar and caffeine. Overall though, I've done pretty well. My NUT said the only things she wants is for me to keep working on getting my liquids in.
  17. I'm being sleeved at Kaiser SSF on 5/28. I took my first class on 4/7 (mandatory information session). Met the surgeon on 5/6 and received my surgery date of 5/28. Saw the psych on 5/15 and received his all clear. I have my preop class on 5/19. I've completed the nutrition meetings and the full orientation too. I started the preop eating plan of 1200 calories a day on 4/7 and have lost 14lbs. My BMI on 4/7 was 39.9.

    New! Kaiser Richmond

Slynn90, I'm going through the program at Kaiser SSF. It's a really great program and they help you through a lot. The psych eval will be mostly focused on getting you through the emotional eating. Much of the time the psych appt is later in the process but if you're concerned, then ask the RN to schedule you with him/her ASAP so you can specifically ask the question about your stuff. You'll need to follow the preop eating plan and go through a series of appts prior to surgery being set. In my program orientation we were told it takes about 2-4 months to reach surgery. Your duration will depend on your own needs.
  19. My surgery is 5/28 in South San Francisco. Anyone else in the Bay Area?

    Required Vitamins

For calcium, I take the Bariatric Advantage chews. They are like having a piece of candy.
  21. I'm having the procedure on 5/28 too. I have a preop class on the 19th too. I met with my surgeon last week. I like the Premier Protein drinks. My fave is the strawberries and cream but my daughter in law likes the chocolate and vanilla.
