    African American vsgers!

I brought a change of clothes to go home, a gown, robe, toothbrush, toothpaste, a book and my phone. I was only in there one night though. I really didn't need most of that stuff because I slept alot and when I wasn't doing that, I was getting up to walk. I went home in the clothes I came in. I didn't read at all. Hey! So i got my Surgery Date finally. Started this whole process back in Nov2014 and My Surgery Date is *Drum rolls* 9/15/15!! I Have a few questions? What did you guys bring to the hospital with you? Personal Stuff?(Tooth Brushes, Pads, ECT) Did your Friend/Spouse get to Stay in the patient recovery room with you the whole time? How long did you stay after the surgery was complete? Did you have a Laptop or Tablet for entertainment? Should i get my hair put up so i wont have to worry about maintenance for a few days? What were you prescribed for the pain? Any other advice for the whole experience would be great too! The hospital I was in did have a recliner and sofa for someone to stay over night. I wear my hair close cropped so it's low maintenance but I would do something to it if it was longer. I was given liquid tylenol with codeine for pain as well as zofran for nausea.

    Any August Sleevers?

If you just came home today, there's not a lot you can do other than walk and sip. You can get some Gas X but I'm not sure it will work for this type of gas. It might take a couple of days to get the lower gas to start coming out. It took me a few days to not have that CO2 gas pain to not be the focus. Congrats and welcome to the losers bench!
  3. Why can't you take any pills? During my 2 week pre-op diet, I'm not supposed to take any pills, unless they are crushed. I can only take Tylenol for headaches and pains, gummie Vitamins and I have to crush my blood pressure med. Well that's a new one. I've not read of anyone who had to crush their meds before surgery. All of these doctors are so different with their requirements.
  4. So how is everyone doing? Today makes 2 weeks for me. I'm mostly dealing with incision aches right now which is very tolerable. Gas now and then. My main issue is just being tired. Tomorrow, I get to eat real food in pureed form. I'm sure I will need a Protein shake at least once a day to reach my protein goals. But I'm also excited because the introduction of food will be the true test of whether I will continue to need insulin and if so, hopefully not as much. I also get to go to the doctor for my 2 week followup tomorrow so I will find out if I can go to the gym, even on a limited basis.

    Help after Surgery

I think this will be enough. If you take any pain meds, I would shower when someone is there that first week. But otherwise, I think you have planned well.

    Any August Sleevers?

I think I brought too much. You should bring a change of clothes. Something loose, maybe something that goes over the head. I just brought a nightgown and robe since I was just going to the car and then home. A toothbrush and toothpaste. I brought a book and earphones. But I was discharged the next day and I spent the night hitting the pain pump button and getting up to walk a couple of times.
  7. Today makes a week since I got out the hospital and it's a much better day. One thing that I discovered is with the Protein shakes. I'm using unjury with soy milk (the lite or unsweetened). If I mix it in my nutri bullet and then start sipping it, it seems like I can't sip it slow enough. BUT if I make the shake and put it in the fridge for a while, it thickens up. And it makes it easier to drink slower.
  8. I had my revision from band to sleeve on 8/10. The gas pain is no joke. I expected it as I remembered what I went thru with the band. This is worse. I just keep walking, breathing, and sipping as the pain meds MIGHT take the edge off. I'm in Richmond.

    African American vsgers!

Hey y'all! I had my revision from a lapband to a sleeve on Monday.I agree with teitei636's description of the pain. When I was in the hospital, it felt like I had done too many stomach crunches. The gas pain that I'm feeling whether I'm drinking something or not feels like muscle spasms. Don't get me wrong, it hurts. But I think I was expecting to feel like I had been cut and that's not how it feels at all.

    Any August Sleevers?

Only shakes? No sugar free jello or popsicles? No broth?
  11. I am having issues with fluids. Yesterday I was able to get 2 8oz shakes down but it took ALL day. I got 1 16,.9 bottle of Water down. Today was more difficult. No head hunger. I don't feel hungry at all

    Any August Sleevers?

Everyone, PLEASE remember this one phrase. Walk and sip. Walk and sip. It will hurt. But it will be worth it.
  13. I had revision surgery on Monday, 8/10. For me, I think the pain is worse than the band. It's the gas pain that is getting me. Not the incision pain. But today was a better day because I was able to walk more. And that is helping alot. Walk and sip.

    Any August Sleevers?

I'm on my 3rd day post op now. The gas pain is horrible but more tolerable now. I'm walking in the house as much as possible. How are you?

    Type 2 diabetes

Maybe not though. You will be eating so little. Or you'll be switched to another med with smaller dosage.

    Type 2 diabetes

I take 4 shots a day. Novolog with each meal and then Lantus at bedtime. I started my pre-op diet this past Tuesday, July 28. So far, I am down two shots, 10 units of Lantus at Breakfast and then 10 units of Lantus at bedtime. My pre-op diet consists of 3-5 shakes a day, beef or chicken broth, sf popsicles, sf, Jello, Water, and crystal lite. My numbers have been running between 125-170 thru out the day. I have gone high twice and have not dropped too low yet.

    African American vsgers!

I start my two week pre-op diet on Wednesday. I'm revising from the band to the sleeve on August 12th. I'm so ready to get this started. UPDATE: I just got a call asking me if I wanted to change my date to August 10. Hel-lro! Yes Indeed!
  21. My surgeon is Dr. Scarborough. I am revising from the band to the sleeve after 10 years with the lapband. When my band doc gave up his practice to go back to Israel, Dr. Scarborough and Dr. Yu took over the practice. So I've seen Dr. Scarborough a few times before making the decision to revise to the sleeve. I like Dr. Scarborough because he is VERY thorough. He has a very quiet bedside manner. But he will answer every question you have. I've not met Dr. Yu but I've heard good things about him also. For the most part, I'd give the staff good marks. As with anything this important, you will need to stay on top of things and make sure to followup. I guess I'd give the staff a 7-8 out of 10. The nutritionists are awesome. The person who scheduled my surgery date is awesome. Good Luck

    Mental evaluation

Mine totaled 450 items. So evidently I don't think my thighs are too big.

    Mental evaluation

The test I took was annoying more than anything. There was the same question asked a different way. Do you drink more than 2 drinks at a social setting? Do you think your thighs are too big? Do you wake up thinking about alcohol for Breakfast? Do you think about your legs being too big? Try not to stress out about it too much. I'm sure you will do fine.

I'm scheduled for Aug. 12th. I have a call out to the person who schedules the surgery to see if there are any open slots for July. I am revising from the band to sleeve and I am so ready.
