  1. I had my surgery in Mexico as well. My family thought I was nuts, but the care and cleanliness was amazing. I would do it all over again. I had to stay 2 night at hospital and 2 at hotel afterward. I felt prepared to travel on the day to come home.

Too Much? 6 days post op

Liquids won't stretch the pouch, that's what I have been told.
  3. This post was well put! I have only told my husband, daughter, mom, sister. I intend to tell no one else. It has no relevance on their life. My husband's family is always up in our business and have an opinion on everything. There is no way in hell I need to deal with their opinions or judgement. This is a hard road, I don't care what anyone says! It requires mental strength, courage and will power. I feel very proud for making a step towards change. Sad that I can't share it with everyone, but the surgery was only a small part....I get credit for the hard work that follows. The journey to fitness and greater health is still the same as anyone else with the same goals.

    compliments that are not compliments....

This is the exact reason I have not. and will not tell anyone that I had WLS. I am not embarrassed at all, I actually proud that I made a decision to improve my life. I just hate the ignorance of people. I mean if I were an alcoholic and went to treatment, do you think people would be rude about it? No they would be supportive. Same isn't true for weight related issues and addictions to food. It's sad. I rather keep people guessing "what's she doing to look so fab"....really keep the gossip wheel turning.

    All the Alberta girls

I from Fort McMurray!! I had my sleeve done May 20, so just a week post op tomorrow!

Do you talk to your Nutritionist?

I agree! Same goes with alcohol. Each drink is loaded with empty calories. My torture the poor pouch like that, and sabotage your success? Some foods are slippery slopes, but a lot think this surgery will fix everything. People still need to retrain the brain for success.

Any Couch To 5 k people?

Love the couch to 5k app! Really slow evenly paced progression!! I did it pre op and plan to start it again post op!

    Pre-op Binge eating

The surgery won't change your brain or mindset...you have to do that yourself. If you need counselling for eating issues, get it. Get your brain in the game for long term success. Post op my sister visited me in the hospital eating pastries, coke, chocolate and hickory sticks (my personal fav). She ate in front of me and I was sad and pouted. I told her not to hide and eat because I will have to deal with temptation the rest of my life. My husband popped open a bag of chips and dip the day after I came home from the hospital. I tried to imagine the gross grease coating they leave on the mouth, wham...craving left. We didn't get fat by eating healthy. We stuffed out mouths with high calorie, fat laden foods. If we had a boyfriend or girlfriend who abused us we would leave him/her in the dust...that's how I view bad food now. Hostess Frito Lay is an abusive ex that may have tasted good, but made me feel like crap! Change your brain...change the game!
  9. Any time you can influence someone's life for the positive is a gift. As long as people realize this is a hard journey mentally, and are prepared.

    MY SURGERY IS TOMORROW!

Don't get discouraged and remember it is normal to feel sad and regret after surgery. Every day you will feel WAY better than the day before, so take it one day at a time!

    I feel so alone

Sounds like your husband is more afraid of you changing than you are. He likely feels a bit insecure with change and wondering if it will change your relationship. Just reassure him that you love him and want to live a long healthy life with him. You have to do what's best for you... Not anyone else.
  12. I just went through mine on May 20. I will say 2 things...you may feel very very hungry. Keep your mind busy, I checked this site often and kept occupied. My biggest complaint was hunger and nausea or dry heaves. I was sleeved in the afternoon (3pm) and the first night I slept until about 11:00pm and was up peeing, dry heaving and feeling like crap. I could not have water until next morning, so I kept a wet washcloth by my bed to set my lips and teeth. The next day I sipped water and juice and walked the halls of the hospital like no body's business. Go slow!! I had sadness and regret this day. I think it's normal, as anesthesia leaves the body. I also had massive headache for 5 days after surgery. It would come and go. The good news is every day you feel significantly better. By 3 days post op, I was laying by the pool, walking the marina, and way less hungry. Be patient, cry is you need to, try to read positive success stories to stay encouraged. Good luck!

    Fell off the wagon

Don't beat yourself up. Life is all about ups and downs, temptations, trials etc. every day is a new day. All you can do today is be better than yesterday. It does no good to focus on the past.

    Headaches post op

I haven't taken pain killers since day 3 post op, aside from for the headache itself. Good news that today, day 5 post op and no headache. Convinced it was surgery anxiety, pain meds (ketorolac) and detox.

To Catheter or Not to Catheter?

I did not. I was worried at first, but ended up glad, as it got me up walking really soon after surgery.
  16. I take the Celebrate chewable multi as well as their calcium chewable with no problems. I nibble them and they kind of melt in my mouth. No nausea or issues. I started 5 days post op.

4 days post op. Having troubles

Did your doc not prescribe nexium or Prevacid? If not get some Pepcid AC or Zantac tabs in that pouch already!

    ***update*** 9 days post op

Congrats on the loss! Hunger is evil at times...mashed potato dreams @ 5 days post op at my house. Soon my dream will come true and I hope my new tummy likes mashed potatoes as much as my old one did! Clear fluids are the worst! Always starving on that one but I was allowed protien powder mixed with water, and that helped. I am still on clear into Wednesday (7days post op). Keep your mind busy, that helps.

    When friends say...

I think it is hard for people on the outside to understand why one gets this surgery. I have only told my husband, daughter, sister and mom. My in laws and friends will never know. I'm not embarrassed, but don't want to deal with the questions and assumptions. "Why don't you just work out more and eat better?" Bla bla bla. Truth is this is YOUR journey, and you don't need to explain things to anyone. If someone is offending you just tell that person that it bothers you. Doesn't have to be a big deal, just make it clear that your weight doesn't define you.

    Gastric Bypass recovery

When I was in the hospital post op my nurse had the gastric bypass surgery 12 days before ?!? What the heck! She is a trooper!
  21. Post op....hungry as a bear fresh out of hibernation! The noises that come from my tummy are loud. But it is getting better every day. I am able to get in a lot of fluids. Other than post op nausea and dry heaves in first 2 days, I have had none. I am still on clear fluids. I had to take some pills and was so worried, I waited and waited for something bad to happen, pain or nausea, and nothing happened. I have more energy each day and find if I keep my mind busy, the hunger is manageable. One day at a time is the way to go. Things can change at any time, so I want to be grateful each day that is complication free. I have these little burpie hiccups that hurt like a mo-fo though! My incisions aren't too bad, except my smallest one on the left is sore when I laugh or bend the wrong way. I can't wait to start vitamins, hoping they boost my energy more. I am so worried about ripping my stomach staple line or getting a leak. Anyway, anyone else have experienced to share? Anyone else hungry enough to shove a pizza in your face???
  22. I chose sleeve because my bmi was 37 and I was prediabetic. It Is the procedure the doc recommended for me. I didn't want a band that needed "maintenance", and didn't feel mentally prepared for a full bypass. Everyone has to feel comfortable with their decision, as each has pros and cons. It's best to speak to a doc about what is best for your specific needs.
  23. Water does taste different...definitely taste a chlorine kind of taste. I have to have cold or warm liquid. I used to love room temp, but not anymore. I do love jello, but hate the taste of artificial sweetener oh well! Small price to pay.
